December Beginning

Advent blogging Day #1 😍 When I watch knitting vlogs/podcasts on YouTube, I notice that many participate in something they call Vlogmas.  I don't like that name because HELLO we don't replace the Christ in Christmas with a dumb word like vlog.  Just saying.  I'm happy that quite a few nice bloggers have joined in and are going to try to blog every day of December, too.  I'll list them at the end of the post and you can hop over, if you want to.  I want to.

On Day 1 of Henri Nouwen's Advent and Christmas book he says:
"I keep expecting loud and impressive events to convince me and others of God's saving power... Our temptation is to be distracted by them ... When I have no eyes for the small signs of God's presence -- the smile of a baby, the carefree play of children, the words of encouragement and gestures of love offered by friends -- I will always remain tempted to despair.
The small child of Bethlehem, the unknown man of Nazareth, the rejected preacher, the naked man on the cross, he asks for my full attention.  The work of our salvation takes place in the midst of a world that continues to shout, scream, and overwhelm us with its claims and promises."
                   ~ Henri J. M. Nouwen,
                    Gracias! A Latin American Journal

I wish to hold myself in a quieter fashion this December and I hope I don't forget.

Let me know if you'd like to join us!
Also, no pressure to comment.  If you want to, do.  If it's too much commenting for you, feel free not to.
Thank you for reading, nice person.

What a great post today. Henri Nouwen is a favorite author of mine. I have several of his books.
Blessings on your month long blogging venture.

There is so much warmth and cozy and hygge here with the knitting and cookies and tea and sweet Scandi-style cup. I love it all!

I love all your pictures! I get hung up on the big, flashy things, too. But really, it's the little details where God finds me.

Lovely comforting post.
Isn't it good that people are gathering to write about the reality of Advent, yours, and Angela's A pause in Advent. There are probably more...

Yes, we have a tendency to overlook the small everyday blessings.
I am a very thankful person though and I really do thank God every day for all my many blessings. It is hard to be sad when you are thankful.

Love that red mug. I'll be doing a little knitting, I'm knitting a basket full of slippers.
A happy day to you.

Oh I like that! Look for God's small signs. I wish more folks would realize his small gestures. So many people moan and groan about weather, and crowds, and what they don't have. When if they would just "look", they would realize they have everything! Happy Advent! Kit

What a beginning!! You have already found a big bunch of wonderful little things and given them all on the first day of December. That is generosity! By contrast, my thought has been, if I do this, I'll have to dole out little bits stingily. Hmmm... that doesn't sound very Christmasy, does it!! XO

that is a very lovely quotation, thank you! I love all the pictures and the RED... :) Enjoyed this post! Off to write mine (I think I will not get it done for a bit though as my Husband is going to want to do our shared prayers soon!) :)

Yes, hard to see Christ in this season if you look from certain perspectives. I've never baked a "birthday" cake to celebrate the birth of Christ, but have talked to our 3 year old about it & he loves to help in the kitchen, so I think talking about Mary & her Christ child and baking a cake will be a good thing to do.
