To Prepare

Advent means to prepare.  I think prepare is a completely different word than organize (even though they are synonyms).  Organize can mean physically doing things where as prepare in the context of Advent might be explained as a state of waiting.  I can anticipate that my Savior, my Shepherd WILL lead me to lie down in green pastures, allowing me to rest in my dependency on a dependable God.  He'll lead me beside quiet waters.  If left to myself I may wander to the raging river or the tumultuous sea. He guides me on righteous paths. He's with me when I walk through the valley of the shadow of death. He comforts me with his Shepherd's crook. He prepares a table for me.  He gently anoints my head with oil. He fills my cup. His goodness, His love will follow me all the days of my life and then I will dwell with Him forever and ever.
This is my preparing on this first Sunday of Advent.  It means the holiest of holy.  Advent isn't about opening little doors and indulging in treats.  It isn't about doing.  It's about being and receiving.  The Savior who came to Earth to save all of us dusty sheep is the One we shall prepare for.  We'll be.  We'll wait. We'll follow Him to the quiet waters.  Oh, that I will remain mindful.

We don't want to follow lost ones because then we'll all be lost.  God the Father's great act of love, sending His son, is what we can hold in our hearts.  Now, that's a gift.

Arh thank you for your lovely post. You've got it so right there. Emmanuel God with us - it's Him we're meant to receive and rejoice that God has restored our relationship with Himself.
Thanks for the reminder xx

Thanks for writing that down, you know I didn't know any of that. We used to celebrate Advent at the old church we went to and I don't think that pastor ever said anything so eloquently as you just did.
I always wondered about those calendars, I never understood about those either.
I appreciate you writing it out. Thank you! Have a lovely day.

Instead of trying to get my old brain to memorize new Scripture passages right now, I decided to pull out old ones I already knew, and do MORE with them. So I chose Psalm 23, and there -- you have it on your blog too! I chose images in my memory/mind for each phrase in the psalm, to remember each phrase by. Comforting memories from childhood or years ago. It's been a lovely way to "re-memorize." Happy Advent, Pom. Happy Waiting.
