Today I enjoyed a fizzy strawberry soda in this lovely, cheap glass. I closed my eyes and thought about the tiny store on Guemes Island, my little self putting my money on the wooden counter and walking away, the happy possessor of a bottle of Strawberry Crush. I tried to remember the smell of the sea air and the feel of my ugly little cut-off jeans (too tight in the waist ALWAYS!) but it is just too cold here for me to muster up those nostalgic moments gone by.
Oh, I LONG for flowers and I am far too cheap to buy them. I browsed around the newly refurbished floral department at our fancy grocery store. I walked by the bundles of roses (too expensive!) and the variety bouquets. I did stop when I came to the potted primroses. Nope. Maybe if I dust. Maybe then.
I'm feeling such a craving for summer that I made potato salad! It looks a bit grubby but it was delicious!
Another mayonnaise salad (so pretty before the mayo!) created and served. Aren't the colors divine?
I'm desperate for green, so I put the celery tops in a vase by the sink.
Look at the delicate asparagus! Isn't it gorgeous?

I would buy you some flowers if I lived nearby! I too am missing the green. It's not too cold here the past couple of days, but today we have had rain all day. It's washing away our lovely blanket of snow and making the world wet, muddy, and yucky. Just think! It is almost February! We can immerse ourselves in a world of pink and red for a couple weeks anyways, and then maybe it will be time to start some seedlings.
Blessings, Dear Pom Pom! Praying you have a good week, and for traveling safety for Bill and Jeff!

I'm looking forward to "green" someday too. It'll be May before I have much green to see outdoors.

Your strawberry soda looks so pretty in your Valentine's glass, makes me want to decorate for Valentine's Day. It also makes me thirsty ;)
Ya know, DH and I passed up all the pretty flowers we saw at the grocery store yesterday. Just didn't feel like spending the money.
Thanks for getting me in a festive mood :) Hugz~
I LOVED how you wrote that you wanted to embrace contentment! I will too =)Thanks for being such an inspiration. Thanks for sharing your longing for greens and joy over strawberry crush. I have never tasted strawberry soda, but it does sound like something LOVELY to drink!! Praying for you and your lovies leaving for far away places.
Love,

I think we're all longing for green, the green of Spring! I sometimes just pick some leaves and branches to bring a bit of Nature into the house.
I love the veggies in the vases idea - and so does Humphrey bunny. He LOVES celery tops!
Love Charlotte

That Samantha has amazingly blue eyes! I love you mama and I will see you soon.
I see plenty of green from where I'm sitting; boxwood hedges, evergreen trees, and other shrubs. What I'd like to see is the whole thing covered in a few inches of snow.
Don't we always want what we don't have?
I'm glad you are writing about the longing for green. Just one word, one color, can mean so much. I've been thinking about all the things that come to mind: Green Mansions, and Dylan Thomas' "The force that through the green fuse drives the flower." It's such a powerful word. If you add it to a sentence, it adds such a powerful green dimension. I'm going to be looking for all things green today! xo Kari
As I look outside my window and see the winter blizzard we are having, I needed to hear "I will embrace contentment". Great post!! Hugs
Mmmmmm green, yes I love it too. Our world is decidedly brown during winter, so even some white snow would be nice, but guess it's not coming our way this year.
Sweet, sweet baby face and eyes like her granny methinks?
Bless you,
G
I am missing green, too, though I still have weeds and they stay green year round. The asparagus is lovely! How will you prepare it?
I saw a crocus poking its head out yesterday--lovely and hope-provoking. Go, green!
