Ordinary Day

Summer keeps showing off. Every day there are more blooms in the garden, a few more weeds and fullness. Full flower beds are so rich, so happy. Watering is easy and fresh. I love the feel of water coming out of the hose but I don't like how heavy the hose is or how fussy it is to coil it up nicely when I'm done watering. Oh, I don't like getting dirty.

I read about robins because so many of them are visiting our lawn. They like a wide space to check for worms and our grass doesn't have a lot of trees, so now I know why they swoop in and hop around. I've seen so many baby robins - all spotty and inexperienced. Next purchase: a bird bath. They look around for birdbaths, too.

So, I have some planting to do so I can put the fairy bench out by the fairy door, but I'm still kind of tired from my "week as a mom" and yesterday I sat on the sofa and watched "Hazel" for a few hours. "Hazel" was a 1960's sitcom about a maid and the family she works for. She's so funny. She serves them, bosses them all around, and ends up out shining the lawyer father over and over again. It's ironic. She's uniformed and busy cooking, cleaning, fussing after the family of three and in the meantime she is an excellent bowler, a good football kicker, a nurse because she went to night school, and she's able to poke fun at her "I'm an important man" boss. Maybe you should order it from Netflix. You'd laugh. I watched it every day when Brad was a baby. It was rerunning then. Just to remind you, I was only three years old in 1961! When I finish all the episodes, I'm going to watch "My Three Sons" because I love Fred MacMurray.

Oh, and I bought some chocolates at the grocery store yesterday and they are DELICIOUS!

Every house in our neighborhood had a little flag and this morning they are all gone. The neighborhood Fourth of July organizers reuse them. They really looked so festive even though it rained and rained on the fourth. Gorgeous.

I'm off for a walk with a friend this morning, but I leave you with cherries. They are popping out at Kelli's house and at Reve's house. I picked one as I was coming home from a walk yesterday. I placed it in our grass so a robin could see it and have a mouthful of sweetness.
I'm still a bit muddled, but I'm thinking my head will clear. After my walk and coffee with my friend Ronda, I must stop by Kelli's and see the girls. I miss them. Thank you so much for reading today. Smile. Smile. Smile.

Hey Pom Pom, good that you can unwind a little now. Love the look of those chocs, wanna bring some over here? :)

Sorry I mistook Brad as your grandson...what was I thinking of, silly woman that I am?! I think it was when he commented on your blog and called you "Granny"...I just didn't even think about the ages of you both...what a dodo. :)

God bless you dear Pom Pom, xxx

My birds love to have a birdbath and they are a source of such pleasure to us. Sometimes they bob in just for a sip, and other times or a full bath...water splashes everywhere! In this hot weather I have to top it up daily.

You smile too- bemusedly and fuzzily as you take a good few days to regroup! Love your ordinary day! And am loving a very special package that was waiting for me at lunchtime today! Much more of that soon! But thank you, Pom Pom, enormously! Such colour on a rainy Irish day- immeasurable pleasure!

Isn't it so joyful when the flowers are in full blossom and everything is growing out so beautifully? I really savor it, knowing that it doesn't last very long.

I'm sure you need a little time to unwind from your Granny Camp this past week. You were so sweet to give your kids a much needed break. That's what I want to do with my Granny life.

Happy Tuesday. We're getting your rain today.

I've been meaning to tell you that I like your new banner. Did you draw it?

Ordinary days are the best in my opinion. I am glad you are resting and enjoying yourself. I haven't thought about Hazel in years but I can still hear her voice in my head.

The English robins are very different to your variety . The birds will drink out of my bath but I have never seen them splashing . They did in another house I lived in, they used to queue up in a line --cottonreel

I remember "Hazel" and would like to watch it again one of these days. Did you see they've released the complete "Leave it to Beaver" on DVD? I think my boys would like it. They love "Andy Griffith." I'm not sure they've ever watched a TV show made after 1964!

you are a wonderful mommy and granny! It's funny how you remember the shows you watched when your kids were babies, especially the first one. We didn't have cable when Cadence was a baby, so I watched PBS cooking shows, a funny British sitcom on PBS, and Reba. I think tv felt like a window to the outside world, or a way to connect with people since I now spent all my time with a newborn. Love you!
