Sweatered Symbol

The Blessed Assurance

With God beside me,

I cannot worry, about what others will think of my beliefs.
I will not clam up in fear and refuse to speak to you
about my time with God.
Together, in His name,
we will approach a place
that isn't quite where we were before.
As we make crosses,
we will carry with us the Blessed Assurance:
we are not as alone as we think we are.
~Making Crosses: A Creative Connection to God by Ellen Morris Prewitt

My creative longing experienced a need meeting kind of stretch as I busied myself crafting my simple sweatered cross. I felt a crisp and purposeful sense of accomplishment, the kind that is very different than the feeling of admiration of one's own creation. It felt more like obedience.
I am waiting for the next cross beams to present themselves. This crooked, gray statement hangs in the kitchen, the serving place, the "give yourself away" room, the working song of the home.
I pray that you might hear His voice beckoning your transparent soul today.

Hello Pom Pom, what a beautiful cross, something so special to help our Lent focus and what a lovely meaningful item to have in the heart of your home. I liked your post and can see a little bit of a theme as I feel too that whilst accepting of all around me, I don't have to 'play down' my faith, it's part of who I am. Thanks.

I love the mix of twig, knitting, beads, and a heart to make your cross ~ very, very beautiful. And your description of the kitchen is just wonderful. "The 'give yourself away' room, the working song of the home." I picture the wonderful bustle of hearts and souls that takes place in your kitchen with your family. I love knowing there are people like you in the world! xo Kari

The cross is beautiful, as is the poem. I also agree we should not ever "hide our light under a bushel"...yet I often do just that. Thank you so much for this post...it is the second I have read today on this topic and is truly what I need to hear.
Hugs, Suzanne

Pom,
Thank you for the meditation today. It's a needed reminder for me. The cross is so unique. Do the red beads at the bottom symbolize something? Drops of blood? Prayers?

Thank you for sharing the Pause In Lent.

'We will approach a place
that isn't quite where we were before.' - That would be a great prayer for all of us Pause in Lent bloggers, Pop Pom!

I can't tell you how much I am enjoying the practical and the creative merging with the spiritual in your posts. Thanks.

I'm so interested in your cross inspirations - like nothing I've come across before.
So nice to visit your week's worth of posts too!

I really love this cross. It makes me look at the cross anew. We get used to seeing it, and then suddenly, we have to look at it differently. Marvelous!

Neat Cross, Pom Pom. I love the idea and that you call the kitchen your room of serving others. That's profound.

I love your new cross, and was so thankful to behold it in person. To call it art would be an understatement. Thank you for sharing the beauty and encouragement. I love you soooo much.

Hello Ms. Pom Pom,

This is a beautiful post and a great way to pause for a moment to think about all the blessings in our lives.

Thank you so much for popping over and leaving kind words on Linda's paper doll. They are so very much appreciated.

Wishing you and your family a blessed Lent season.

xoxo

Another inspiring post Pom. Isn't it interesting how making something for someone causes you to focus on that person and keep them in the forefront of your mind - praying for them, considering the desires of their hearts, etc. I particularly felt this when making a prayer shawl for a friend with cancer. Some say that knitting (and creating of any kind) is meditative and it truly is - on many levels.
Blessings,
G
P.S. Is Mr. Pom home from Portugal yet -- more sad news there. . .
