A Little EZ, Soft Alpaca Vest, Sunshine Yarn, and a Serious Read

I'm joining Ginny's Yarn Along today.  It's so fun to hop around and see everyone's projects and learn about new books, too.
The front of my alpaca vest is finished.  Look at the stripes!  I like them.
I've been knitting and watching Elizabeth.  Our television is very old and very big, but it keeps chugging along.  Listening to her speak and watching her knit is incredibly FUN to me. You can get the dvd here.

Her hands are so sure.  You can't imagine how many stitches she knit over the course of her life.  I want to tell you about another knitting blog that I find utterly fascinating.  It's Jean's Knitting.  She lives in Scotland and she's brilliant.  Pop over.
I have more knitting books than finished projects.  For a certain period of time (a few years ago now) I couldn't resist knitting books.  I've slowed down now.  One Skein Wonders (the first one) is handy and "to the point" so because I had just two skeins of the golden yarn, the Seafoam Shawl appeals.  It calls for bead trim.  Do beads make a shawl heavy?  It will be a small shawl and I like how Ginny wears shawls, wrapped around the neck like a cowl.
Our boys have delicious boxes of books and Jeff's are still in our basement (some of them).  I found this. Have you read it?  It's beautifully written, packed full of what humans must know about fear-based government.
We do need to pay attention.  I waited a long time to read this but I'm glad I'm reading it now.
I can't stop taking photos of the "golden" I'm seeing everywhere.  I Waterlogued the two below.  Blue so blue.  Autumn splashes.  It is a very good time of year, isn't it?

Pop over to Ginny's if you desire a big gulp of yarny goodness.

The vest is so pretty! Oh how I wish I could knit...or crochet. I keep thinking I will try to find someone to teach me. Need to hurry though...I'm not getting any younger!

I love the cable of your vest, so pretty.
Did you do the paintings? I was thinking this morning while on my walk that I need to get my paints out, the marsh grass here is turning golden, something I think you would like, and I felt that tingle to paint.

Your vest is lovely and looks so soft.
Although I don't knit, I love to look at the beautiful things you talented people make :).

Of course you know, I'm not the knitter, my daughter and my grand daughter are. :-0

Oh yes, the "goldens"! Even when it is dark and even rainy, they seem to glow with an almost inner gold light! Amazing!

You are brave to read such a book. I am a wimp. But I do know of all the ways, we are placed in fear, by our government. Watching what words you type on the net and etc. Fear lives, now.

Hugs and magic,
Tessa

I still have that book on my shelf of things I want to read. I started it years ago, I never finished.
I always love your knitting days. I even have some knitting books. :)
I should get one out and see if I could make something. I love your water color pictures.
Have a lovely day.

Karen, I am so jealous. I have done so many needlework projects and crafts over the years but knitting/crocheting is the one thing I never learned to do-more's the pity. I am envious of your beautiful vest and projects. Hope you have a happy wonderful Wednesday. xo Diana

I have read that book and I need to read it again because my olden brain doesn't remember much. My parents' families escaped out of Russia in the early 30's and I have an uncle who was imprisoned in Siberia. Yikes...
Your water color fall shots are very pretty!

Are those your own paintings? Love the style and colors. :)

So glad that you like my post. I will be following you even though I am not a knitter, but can crochet. I didn't realize that I won the book at Nana Diana's.
Have a terrific day.

Your shawl is going to be gorgeous, I can tell, because I love the colour of the yarn!!!! Do you remember my seaglass shawl, well that has a LOT of pearl beads that are glass and quite heavy around the edge and I didn't find it too heavy when I wore it at the weekend. My suggestion, if the pattern allows attach them separately and then if they are too heavy you could remove them? Just a thought, don't know if it would work with knitting. xx

Hope Big Brother's not reading your blog. Don't know what he'd have to say about you reading Solzhenitsyn!!On the other hand, I love your new vest. The yarn is so sumptious looking and those stripes....yummy! Now, I'm sure Big Brother would approve heartily of that!!xx(how come we get to keep all those boxes of stuff when they all have their own houses in which to keep all their rubbish....could never work that one out!).

I like how she wears her shawls all wrapped up, too. Thanks for stopping by, today. I can't stop taking pictures of the golden leaves either!

You know how I admire you knitters! The vest front is amazing. It looks so soft.

I LOVE your watercolored trees. Oh, goodness, you can paint!

If only we all lived closer you could have classes to teach those of us who never learned to knit. Wouldn't that be fun?
As for Solzhenitsyn, I can barely spell his name. I don't know if I'd be up to reading his book! Good for you though.

I agree with Jody about admiring. I know I've said it many times...I guess I must be getting more vicarious enjoyment than inspiration all these years, admiring your yarn and project and even books!

I will have to try that Waterlogue app again on my phone - I put it on for a while and never used it, then took it off because I thought I needed the storage space. But it is so appealing.

The Gulag is on my shelf, too, unread by me. I am proud of you for reading it. God bless you, Pom Pom.

the waterlogue pictures are beautiful - just think of the possibilities if you can use this and then enlarge, print on canvas .....! I like your knitting lines, they look soft and I bet it feels lovely to be holding wool and being creative - I have tried and failed so know its not for me! Betty

Definitely worth adding beads to a shawl, it makes it extra special and the weight of them helps it to hang nicely :) I'm making a lace shawl at the moment with beads and it highlights the pattern perfectly

What a nice vest!! I love cables.

Your paintings are gorgeous, also. I wish I could paint!

I read The Gulag Archipelago when I was a teen. I should probably read it again. I remember it was very good. I had an interest in what was happening in oppressed countries and also the history of the Jewish people, the Holocaust, and the rebirth of Israel. I don't think I knew anyone else who had those interests at that age, but I had my nose in good books all the time. :)
I love that Waterlogue app!
I'll check out some of your knitting links.
Thanks for another intriguing post, Pom! :)

The vest looks lovely. I really like the cables. I wish I were a better knitter, I just find crochet so much easier for me. I'll have to check out this blog, I enjoy watching other people knit, especially when they can do it fast. I hope you're having a good week!

The number of stitches a pair of hands knits over a lifetime is a lovely though. Us knitters will never take our hands for granted :) Your vest looks great, so neat and I like the subtle stripes. Off to check out the Waterlogued app, it looks fun!

I have future goals of trying water coloring, yours are beautiful!! I agree the colors out there are spectacular. Lovely knitting and I LOVE EZ in a book or on tv :)

I too love the striping in your vest. Add the beads, they don't make it heavy, just add a lovely weight to it to hang nicely.
