Bathing Beauty

The weather is cool, but the peonies are going to come out in all their glory and bloom in honor of June.
I am waiting for a package to come in the mail. Guess what is in this goodie gift? The big girl swimsuit! First the poem I wrote while mulling over swim suit angst:

Bathing Beauty

Swimsuit season shakes my happy

content state, turning it into an ocean of dismay.

Ducking into the dressing room,

I suspect hidden cameras and amused guffaws.

Evil all-seeing mirrors vote against me.

Clammy white epidermis quivers in fear.

Give me a very large fig leaf

to cover my round thighs and the dough

found right in front.

The quirking of my apologizing countenance

desperately attempts to move your gaze

from embarrassing more than was previously

exposed to an overcompensating smile on top

given because I am too much and not enough.

I perch on a crowded pool deck,

positioning my arms and legs just so.

A chubby grandmother in a big skirted

sunbeam stops, looks me softly in the face

and sings, “Isn’t life grand?”

Life is grand.

I disappear.

Here are two of my very favorite fish. Happy swimming, friends!

I am sure you will look beautiful in your swimsuit - hope you have lots of poolside fun and, just think, you can swimwith the grandchildren - what fun you will have. Bettyx

We'll be spending the afternoon in our little pool too - so hot here!!! I like your poem very much, especially the line,"because I am too much and not enough." That expresses exactly how it feels to be fat. Sigh. I like how it ends too, with the additional voice of the grandmother. It's all about focus on self, or focus on others, isn't it? Neat art too :)

Thanks for stopping by on Pink Saturday...The poem and pictures are delightful...My Ya-Yas and I have a set of five portly bathing beauty candles that we light in honor of our annual summer Tea by the Sea...I'm so jealous that you can grow peonies...what a wonderful summer treat.
Enjoy the summer and have a Pink Week.
Happy swimming with those precious little "fish".

I love your poem, and shall have to go check out the artist and her paintings that you linked to. But first I must stay and look through your blog....your adorable fairy bed and fabulous quilt have caught my eye. Have a pinkishly beautiful Saturday.

Look at your darling girls! I haven't owned a swimsuit for years. But then I don't swim. Once in a while I get wet on a beach somewhere in what I'm already wearing. ha! I enjoyed your visit!

Your poem really captures the whole dismaying swim suit experience. I hope you like it a lot. What cute little fishies!

Hi Pom Pom, love your poem and I so get it. Bathing suits make me cringe. Oh for the day when I had a bathing suit figure and didn't appreciate it at all. HA! Your little bathing beauties are adorable.
Hugs, Jeanne

I love your poem, Pom Pom! It is very frustrating to find the right bathing suit to fit the "too much" and the "not enough" of our bodies. But the point is: To Swim! and Have Fun! I hope you do lots of both when you get your new suit.

Your swim partners look ready to dive!

Oh well you got me on that one...I thought your big girl swim suit meant you were being a grown up & going swimming! ; ) I'm such a sook..I hate cold water! I hope your "costume" is pretty pink too. I reckon it's the dressing room that does it..quite right evil, nasty mirrors!! Won't be nearly so bad once you just get on with the swimming bit. Look forward to pretty peony pics. Have a glorious week . Much love Catherine x

Ha Ha I'm back- good old, lovely, wonderful Betty the Wood Fairy sorted out my technical issues and now the strawberies are bounding around once more!! I think you should make her a four poster bed! And to think I have only twelve months to get my house in order for a State Visit! Must follow Wills and Kate/Catherine in Canada closely for some ideas! Dublin and Doolin, picnic in Mount Stewart, pilgrimage to Devenish, and what will look like anthills of Mournes to big mountain range you! Programme planning can never start too soon!!
