Dancing Pink

Happy Pink Saturday! While digging through the basement storage closet, I came upon my toe shoes. I had one fun year stuffing lambs wool into these tiny shoes and trying to dance on my toes. We went to Seattle and found a tiny little dance shop, bought my beautiful shoes and waited for my dance instructor to turn me into The Sugar Plum Fairy. It didn't take. I did wear a fabulous green tutu for the recital, but after that year it was all tap and jazz. Maybe it was my too short ballerina career that drew me to the "shoe" books a few decades later. Have you read them? Noel Streatfeild's books take the reader away. I first spotted Ballet Shoes in second grade. One of my friends was trying to read it and I've never forgotten that big, hardcover book, looking so delicious under her arm. As a young mother, I bought them for myself. I treasure them. See how worn they are? If you are going to buy a few pink books, buy these.

Edward Bear is SUCH a good sport about wearing this little apron my mother-in-law made years ago for her daughter.

I found the knitted tea cup I completed! The pattern was for a whole tea set, but one frustrating cup endeavor did me in. It's cute though, don't you think?

I leave you with this magic basket of Cuties! I took them to school and the kids couldn't stop looking at them. Aren't they beautiful? Happy orange, I mean PINK Saturday! Stop over at Beverly's How Sweet the Sound and you'll see all the Pink Saturday posts. Maybe you'll find a sweet new blog to love!
Please pop in Sunday for my first A Pause in Lent post.
Thank you so much for your visit!

Hi Sweet Pom Pom,
How are you this Friday evening? I hope wonderful in every way ~smile~ Okay, so you are always inspiring me to read my daughters books. She has read the Ballet Shoes and Theater Shoes but I haven't. Isn't that a shame? I just must. I love childrens book...... so comforting! You know me-- I love comforting!

P.s. I always dreamed of being a beautiful ballerina too. Aren't they just so graceful.I cry every year when we go to see our local Ballet Co. perform The Nutcracker. It's just so magical and as Chloe says lightiful ;-)

Pom Pom, I hope you have a great weekend. I'm going to relax this weekend because next weekend marks the beginning of my daughter's soccer season. Our weekend will then take on a much more hectic and lively beat ;-)

Your comments mean so much to me Pom. Thank you so much for visiting me.
xxJess

Hello, PomPom,
I love your ballet slippers! What is it about ballet slippers that make them so romantic and charming? Maybe it is because of all the beautiful ballerinas that so gracefully wear them. Your knitted tea cup is so cute! Filled with candies it is perfect for Valentine's Day. I hope you have a fun filled weekend and Happy Pink Saturday! Vicki

Thank you for reminding me of the Shoe books ~ I've been meaning to read them for years and never have. I just added them to my growing library list. As Vicki said, there is something romantic and charming about ballet slippers. The combination of "ballet" and "slippers" causes a lovely dancing flurry of dreamy images! And that little knitted teacup is precious! xo Kari

I don't think I ever wanted to be a ToeDancer. Probably because those shoes would hurt my toes and no amount of stuffing would help. I was saddled with saddle oxfords and that was bad enough! Yep, crocheted cups...I mean cup...would be plenty for me, too...but it's cute and it's pink! I'm havin fun sewin and sellin some aprons....that sure is a cute one on your bear...and special, too!...Sue

Happy (way late) Pink Sat. to you! Love your ballet shoes, and so glad you found them - what a nice little hidden treasure to uncover. Are you going to hang them in your 'boudoir' ;-)? Wouldn't that be sweet?
I haven't read the 'shoes' books, but I've bought them for my Littles who loved them. Have you seen the movie version of "The Ballet Shoes"? It's a favorite of mine. I think I have arrested development as I really love children's movies and books -- often much more than grown up stuff ;-)!
Blessings to you,
G

Oh what a wonderful post today! I always dreamed of being a ballerina, but we never had money enough for lessons. I love ballet slippers though and often look for used ones in my outings . . . just hanging them in my room would be enough for me! LOL!

Those books look wonderful . . . I'll have to look for them in the bookstore.

Oh, those cuties look amazing!

Thanks so much for sharing today and Happy Pink Saturday!

I'm just getting around to visiting more Pink Sats here today. I have my old shoes for dance too, not toe shoes but pink leather ones. Also as I recall a really good childrens book on dance but it's out in the Fairy Cottage or I'd tell you name of it. Nan

Awww, I also have a pair of toe shoes haunting my storage closet. ;) I was all tap and jazz from about 7 to 19, then I decided that ballet was where it was at. I had just finally been awarded toe shoes for my hard work when I got sick and had to leave the world of dance forever. I had a few meager months, tripping around on my toes though, and I'll never forget how graceful I felt.

Sweet Auntie:

I also love love love the Shoes books. I got them on tape a few years ago, when both girls were passionate ballerinas and we would listen in the car as we drove to all of our endless locations. I always wanted my girls to be dancers...having been a gymnast myself I was always sure i would have been better at math and much more disciplined as a person if I had just been immersed in the ballet culture. I had such high hopes for the girls. And, they did twirl through 4 years of dance and many Nutcrackers and recitals, but then soccer won out. Ah well, at least we have these sweet books :).

Love you!

Love this pink dancing post! I have one of those...toe-dancing ballerinas, I mean. My life is filled with pointe shoes and tutu's:-) That teacup is the cutest thing ever. Good thing you warned us it was a handful to make or I would be scouring the web for a pattern...and I am a horrible knitter:-)
God Bless,
Suzanne
