"I am the light of the world. whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." John 8:12
"The people walking in darkness
have seen a great light;
on those living in the land of the shadow of death
a light has dawned . . .
See, darkness covers the earth
and thick darkness is over the peoples,
but the Lord rises upon you
and his glory appears over you."
Isaiah 9:2; 60:2
Praying the Names of Jesus by Ann Spangler has sat on my bedside table, the second shelf, collecting dust for almost a year now. I am going to make it my devotional guide for this holy time of year. It's dusted. I'm going to skip through it, reading more than one day at a time, taking long thirsty drinks of the scripture and the prayers.
Our girls, in their twenties and mothers of young children, want to share Advent with us. We may put the old iron candle ring that was my own Advent wreath as a child and drive to their houses for Sunday night ADVENT. Bill will bring the guitar and we'll sing with the grandgirls, they'll run around in circles, hair flying, thudding on the balls of their little feet, dancing to tunes of the Savior. We sang with our four children, not that long ago. It seems.
Bill's downstairs exercising to Bing Crosby singing "The First Noel" . . . they saw a star . . . a light . . .
Oh, Jesus. Please fill the dark corners of my heart with your pure LIGHT.
It's still dark outside and my soul is ready for the Advent season.
I'm joining Floss for A Pause in Advent. Hop over to her blog and you can read all the participant's posts.

Light. God's light. A good thing to ponder on, PomPom.
Thank you for the two great Bible verses. The second one always thrills me when I hear it read in church.
I look forward to following your posts through Advent.
Light is fascinating me this year. Sunshine on puddles, rainbows, sun rays through clouds, twinkle lights in the home, firelight.
I hope you know how precious and wonderful it is that you can sing God's praises with your family. I would love to be able to do that. For everyone in my family to love the Lord is my biggest heart's desire, and I long for it.
Love your light-filled post, dearest PP. xxxx
Recently one of my boys said a friend had told him there is no God, he then told him the big bang theory... I told him the big bang is when God said 'Let there be light'. I would like God's light to fill all the corners of my world too PomPom. Betty
What do I need to do to be part of a childlike Christmas? It sounds like a lot of fun! x
I'd love to have you join, Jayne! What's your blog address again? Usually I just click on the link from your comment but your name's not linked. Let me know and I'll add you in!
Lovely thoughts and words Pom Pom.
I am joining in the Pause too - it is nice to discover new blogs and read everyone's thoughts for the day.

p.s thank you for this light on this first sunday of advent ❤
I've not heard of a child like Christmas, but it sounds good.
I too love the Isaiah quote, it conjures up such rich images in my mind.
This is such a lovely time of the year, thank God for some special people who make us learn that the run up to Xmas is not only made of shopping and food!

Such abundant star light shining as we meander thorugh these weeks to Bethlehem. His light, your light, our light. When Angela came to our prayer meeting she said something that I still ponder- that this year especially we believers can proclaim a good Christmas even in the midst of recession and tight belts, because of the rich, deep meaning it brings.
This is a message that has transcended time. I love this time of year and the reflection we all do. Hopefully it makes us better people and we act upon the ponderings to shine that light upon those around us. Thanks for helping me start out the season.
How very nice.
Dear Pom Pom you always make me remember what is important in life.
What a lovely way to experience the Advent. I love that you have the candle ring from your childhood. That must be so special. Thank you for visiting my blog. Kit
Yes, Dear Pom, I am coming to the party! I'll see you Wednesday. :-)
What a beautiful post. Welcoming the light of God into our hearts during Advent makes life richer.
I love those verses from Isaiah. Just beautiful.
Very beautiful post, dear Pom Pom! And I love your orange and pink striped candle.
I will have to check out Floss...I posted on Advent yesterday also...God really touched my heart during the service and I am so looking forward to time with Him this season.
Thanks so much Pom Pom - I wasn't able to comment earlier but I had the photo of your super candle and the message about Light on my computer as I was teaching on the phone this afternoon. That image has burned itself into my memory now and I hope the message will too! Looking forward to A Childlike Christmas too - I've been quizzing the children I teach to get some good ideas!
How wonderful to pass on your traditions through the generations. This will be my first advent without my mother and I am finding it hard to not be really conflicted about it all
Isn't this the most lovely time of the year!? I love the traditions that this season brings!
Blessings!
Deborah
