Children

Kid stuff.  Kid stuff is very very good, isn't it?  When I called our oldest granddaughter on her birthday, I asked if they were going to go to the fancy indoor swimming pool that night.  CB said, "We are going today."  It was around 4:30 PM when I called, but I realized that she does not tell time yet.  So the day was still young.  In a child's mind, the day is full of promise.
The cousins came to see Aria yesterday.  She was spending the entire day with Bill and I.
We strolled (and rode in the wagon) down to the park.

Have you climbed on a swing lately?  Swinging sort of makes my stomach churn, but look at THEM!  They loved it!
I had so much fun with Aria. She chattered away, took a good nap, ate the dinner I made for her and had a joyful bath!   Coming off many face-to-face parent/teacher conferences the day before, it was VERY refreshing to knit on the sofa while Aria played.  My eleven-year old students are still children, too. I bet their parents want to put on the brakes.  Soon they'll be teenagers.  Our seven grandchildren are five years old and younger.  The world belongs to the children, not the twenty-something hipsters.  Don't you think we become more childlike as we grow older?  The possibilities are certainly there.  We begin to notice and appreciate the seasons more, we may go to bed earlier, and we don't care much for fashion.  Is it just me?
I've been ordering different versions of Cinderella.  I love the story, not because the underdog wins, but because Cinderella is tough AND kind.  She's kind.  I think kindness is the fruit of the Spirit I want most.  It's a choice to be kind and being kind to children is a great privilege.

The illustrated letters that Beatrix Potter sent to children turned into stories enjoyed by generations.  Kenneth Grahame told his stories to Mouse, his son, before publishing The Wind in the Willows.  C.S. Lewis said, "Someday you will be old enough to start reading fairy tales again."

This girl from Fat Brain toys, is on Pom Pom's wish list for Christmas.  She's eighteen inches tall.  I love the stitches on her apron and the length of her hair.
And she's very kind.  Have you read the stories?
Children's stories, church Christmas programs, classic toys, little child size tables and chairs, jingle bells and angels.  I'm theming my celebration of Christ's birth around childlike doings.  "Unless you change and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven."  ~ Jesus
What do you think of a December blog party focusing on childlike doings?  Would you participate?  Do you want a childlike Christmas?

Oh yes, count me in!! I love everything you blogged about too, and would love a childlike Christmas! Yippee!! :) xxxx

PS. I agree with you, I do seem to enjoy more childlike things as I get older. Innocent, happy, simple things are the best! xxx

Childlike Christmas doings YES PLEASE! I would love to take part. Christmas in my childhood was very sparse so plenty to catch up on! Don't you think a lot of the Christmas stuff we parents inflict on our children is really stuff we wish we had been able to experience ourselves as kids?! My long suffering children have humoured me yearly with my delight at putting out a carrot for the reindeer and mince pie for the man in red - even though they are teenagers, sad, I know I am!
And YES I do go on the swing at the playpark it's just round the back of my house in the beginning of the woods, I swing high and don't care who sees! Betty

I would definately be in attendance at the Child-Like Christmas Party...I'll bring my doll...Sarah Jane. You remember her? She's the doll I got for Christmas when I was ten and then again when I was about 6x10. Loved this post and all your Gals pictures. Have a blessed Sunday!

I absolutely love being a grammie and seeing the world afresh through the eyes of the grandgirls. What a privilege it is to be closeby and share the Great Big World with them.

Yes, a childlike Christmas. I'd love to play along with you, Pommie.

That's six of us so far! If you want to join in, posting a childlike Christmas themed post on each Wednesday through Christmas, please let me know and I'll link to all of you when I do my Wednesday post starting the 30th of November! I like to do A Pause in Advent with Floss on Sundays. You might want to join her for that, too. I can't wait to read your posts, my thoughtful friends. Just imagine sweet Christmas books, elves and pixies, the field mice caroling (Wind in the Willows! Smile!), your Christmas dress, sugar plums, hanging the greens, nutcrackers, and MORE! Yippee!

Any party you're throwing, of course I want to attend!

I find I pay more attention to seasons now, feel like I live more in seasons now, than I have for years. I must be getting old.

I think it would be fun to come to a blog party like that. Our6 grand children are 4 and under. :) It is lovely though to see the world through their eyes. I laughed and laughed at all of the cute things ours said this weekend. I will have to blog about one incident because I find myself chuckling about it.
They sure do make the world a better place. Though gosh I sure get tired.
My brain is beginning to work finally.
Have a lovely week my friend.

I'll need to think about how to do this, but I'd love to join in, please, Pop Pom! As you say, it will compliment the Pause in Advent very nicely - I'll get my thinking cap on. And thanks for the link and your mentions of the Pause.

I think that you are exactly the one to host it! Yes...

Your quotes are perfect. Who would argue with Jesus? I wouldn't argue with C.S. Lewis either for that matter.

I love visiting here after your grands have visited. makes me think maybe it's time I try the swing again!

Blessings, Debbie

Dear Sister from Another Mother,
I ditto everything in your lovely post -- as always. Aren't we so very blessed to have our grands in our lives!? I can't imagine how colorless and lonely life would seem without them, can you?
And you know I'm with you on the children's books. I can't seem to read much else lately. I haven't read "Cinderella", so I must remedy that asap. You always have the best book suggestions! The few 'grown up' books I've read lately have been very disappointing (except for Miss Goudge, Miss Taber and a few other old friends).
And no, growing more like children as we grow older is not just you (maybe just you & me :). I care less and less about what I wear, and I absolutely love bedtime!
♥ ♥ ♥ & hugs,
GG

Yes, I do. With our three Littles home, I think it's very possible that it will be a very childlike Christmas. Perhaps, I'll even make it to be early a few times.

Blessings!
