Two Days In

Hi Cutie!  This bug was in the bathtub about a year ago.  I think he looks peppy and because I don't feel very peppy, I like looking at him!  Oh, two days of school and I am yawning and having mid-day wimp outs.  I'm not in the swing of things quite yet.  But guess what?  The sixth graders are FANTASTIC!  They are so cute, so good, and well, I love them already!  We have had a lot of "sixth grade start up" things to do, but next week we'll start our own stuff.  They really are charming.  They laugh at my jokes and they get right to work when I ask them to.  Whew!  I'm loving it!
My classroom is as hot as the surface of the sun.  This contributes to the wilting.  I have to find time to fill up my water bottle.  I HAVE to sit on the purple stool RIGHT by the fan.  They are trying to fix the air conditioning.  Pray.

I am feeling ultra-cheerful about my move to sixth grade!  We have a big picnic for lunch on Friday.  The school really welcomes them and other than big-time difficulties with their locker combinations, they are feeling calmer every day.
It IS still summer.  We're feeling it here.  It's HOT outside.  Teachers are wearing sleeveless tops and sandals.  I'm not the only one roasting.
I'm looking forward to the weekend, so I can get my bearings (and a nap!) I want to do some more planning and creating and possibly clean this neglected little house.
Let's have a little cup of tea, soak up the last of the summer sun, and thank GOD for children.  Three of my grands are going to Disneyland this weekend.  Lucky them!
I have some books to share with you!  Other stuff, too.  Thank you for checking on me.  You're nice.

I am so glad your week is going really nice. I will pray about the heat and fixing the air conditioner.
I am good, except, I had the flu(I thought it was in my head.) and now my kids have it but being in college they can't miss class. I feel horrible about me being the one to bring it home.
So I did what any loving Mom did, I made cinnamon rolls with cream cheese frosting to tempt them to eat.
So maybe they can eat those for breakfast in the morning.
It has been a lovely week in any case. It is hot though. I am on a schedule again, so everything gets done on time.
I hope you get to take a long, long nap.
You will be in my prayers.
As always, your posts make feel feel as if I was on a retreat.

It is hot and no relief insight--90s for the next week. I don't know how children (and teachers) suffer through the late summer heat. I came home at the end of the day yesterday and collapsed in my chair and fell fast asleep. I was off today, and Thursday. You don't have that luxury of taking a day off, but it does help to regroup. Your students sound lovely. 6th grade is a good age. No purple stool for me, just a long march between buildings. Keep the faith--oh I know that you will.

So glad you have had a good start to school. I didn't realize you had changed grade levels. I agree...sixth graders are great...I loved teaching them. They are so lucky to have you...ya'll will all have a great year. Here's one up for the AC and a restful weekend.

Poor you, and poor kids. I hope they fix the A/C soon. YOu are bringing back memories for me of long summer school days where you would stand up from a class and your school dress would be stuck fast with perspiration to your legs - we didn't ever have A/C.

How long does it take me to get adjusted? All semester. I am worn out at the end of the day; however, in a week a so I plan to return to the health club to swim for 30 minutes. In a week or so, I will have my second wind--I hope. What about you?

Hi PomPom, because of the time difference, here in the UK I get to read your posts as soon as I wake up and look forward to them! a nice start to the day, thankyou friend. I can imagine that heat - we only experience anything like it briefly when we have holidays in Florida and feel totally lethargic and unable to move - just a walk across Wal-Mart car park usually finishes us off! A classroom with no air-con must be a real challenge. Today I woke up to rain, it's nice and fresh, a little cooler. Scrappy dog is having a walk with me this evening and we will be picking elderberries. My brother has visited and now walks dogs at a rescue home as he can't keep a dog of his own - great idea! I forgot to say how I like your Mary Poppins header - this is you! I think you need a carpet bag to put all your school things in - the kids would love to watch you bringing various things out - like bright green beetles in matchboxes!

Those first few days of term arent the easiest. I do hope you A/C will soon be fixed to give you some cool relief.

Teaching in the heat is hard work. Do their legs stick to the polyprop chairs in the classroom? [We had a long programme on BBC radio yesterday all about Robin Day who designed those chairs]

ps has that green giant been in your bathtub A WHOLE YEAR?? or is it an old photo?

What a blessing to have a delightful 'room full'! If your attitude is this good when you're wilting... :)

I did just offer a prayer for the air conditioning. I know that it can't be God's will for a school full of eager learners and teachers to have to struggle through lessons on the surface of the sun. Rest assured He will remedy the situation. I'm feeling confident!

Blessings, Debbie

Bless your heart! I hope your ac gets fixed TODAY! I posted on my blog yesterday about my signing up to be a substitute teacher this year. I would really appreciate it if you have time to drop by and give this newbie some pointers! In the mean time, Keep Cool!

I am sending off all of my girls to University this year. It will be the first time we have been alone in our house for 27 years. Hang in there! The world need good teachers and fall is coming (I've heard that it's true).

I am thinking those are some lucky children to have a teacher who loves them. I just read your previous post and so enjoyed seeing how you set-up your classroom. I do hope the temps cool down for you soon.

You're nice too! We very much adore your teaset! Cooking Catherine and I sat on the grass at Botanic Gardens today drinking tea and discussing the world while two of her boys took all my two boys to the cinema- enjoying the end of summer on both sides of the Atlantic! You will be such a fabulous mentor to these young souls! Oh how they will remember forever the homeliness and charm of your room! I wish you were my boys' teacher!

Don't wilt, mama. I do love you so! Those kids are lucky to have such a loving pom pom for a teacher. Soon the cooler weather will bring you extended strength. Or Nordic blood does not tolerate this heat well.

love,

You're doing great, Pom! Hang in there :) If I were teaching in an un-air conditioned room, I'm be thoroughly wilted too! I hope they get it fixed pronto.

Oh noooooo, you poor dear with no a/c. Oh my. No wonder you feel wilty. I'm praying the fix it and fix it fast. I'm teaching 5th grade writing this year at our co-op and they seem so much smaller than my 7th and 8th graders. It is funny what a year or two difference makes.

I just knew you'd love the sixth graders--really, it's my favorite grade. I'm so, so sorry about the AC and hope they have it fixed by now.

Oh I am so glad that the sixth graders are beautiful! Doesn't that make all the difference! It's getting pretty warm here too. You must be sharing a little of your summer with us :)

Isn't that green bug a Katydid? I think so. I'm seeing them around the yard more and more.

So glad you like your 6th graders. I think it's an age that really begs for love, acceptance and understand, but then.....every age does, doesn't it?

I hope you get that much needed nap and I'll say a prayer for the AC. It's been hot here too. At least it cools down at night, but I suppose they must close the windows at the school at night.

God bless you and all those kids in your charge. Let's have ICED Tea!
