Tell Me a Story

"When they got home, the Rat made a bright fire in the parlour, and planted the Mole in an armchair in front of it, having fetched down a dressing gown and slippers for him, and told him river stories till suppertime. Very thrilling stories they were, too, to an earth dwelling animal like Mole . . . Supper was a most cheerful meal; but very shortly afterward a terribly sleepy Mole had to be escorted upstairs by his considerate host, to the best bedroom, where he soon laid his head on his pillow in great peace and contentment, knowing that his new-found friend the River was lapping the sill of his window." The Wind in the Willows

Hello fellow cozy-makers! Brad (our oldest son) and I were computer chatting about The Wind and the Willows. We love it so. He said he loved how the River is depicted most of all, and I love the domestic settings, of course. The BBC (love) made a The Wind in the Willows story and I shall see it soon. The sweet scene above comes from there. I want to invite you to sit before the stove a while. Get all soft and snug, have a steaming cup of strong tea, tell me a few of your stories.

Maybe you are a city mouse or you live on the outskirts of a city as I do, but you have a country mouse's heart. Wear your softest cotton dress, your pretty apron, a pair of clogs. Put your tired feet under my table. I'll make a cake for you, slice some strong cheese, and we'll tell stories. Yes, we'll listen to each other.

Isn't that what we do when we read blogs? We pop in, read every word, think about each other, validate one another when we make specific comments of kind connection. One dear friend told me she likes blogs because she can invite friends into her life without having to do a big swoopy clean of her house. I quite agree. I feel very welcomed into her soft, eloquent world. I read your stories. You read mine. I find it pleasingly miraculous.

I really like the way you put that, Pom-Pom. My current story is that I have to pop to the supermarket (2 mins away) before we eat this evening, and I have one hungry child! Time to go, but I'll be back, because you've really caught my interest with your story idea.

Well said, Pom Pom. We come visiting each other to share stories. I like that. My story today is that it's snowing and windy and blizzardy! It'll be an indoor day for me.

I love these miracles! Our story today was the latest Narnia in 3D, and we saw it in the architecturally marvellous Victoria Square, so that when we came out we were met by thousands of white lights on green trees, and felt we were still in a snowy forest!

My story today included a trip to the dentist's office for a six month visit. Prices were up this time; no surprise I guess. Love, love, love the paragraph about Rat and Mole; myself, I'm a country mouse. Now I'm off to do some paper piecing. Have a wonderful day.

Just plain beautiful. I love the Rat. KG did such a wonderful job at crafting his little world, full of small and significant lives. Just fantastic. Thank you for sharing your world with us today!

Oh,I like your story and the idea of not having to clean house to share. Today has been a stay at home day for me. Anna had a friend over and I've been baking cookies and watching Ramona and Beezus with them.

I love Wind in the Willows and also the Beatrix Potter books. As a child I used to associate the characters with members of my family as I could find personality traits that matched! My story is that this New Year's Eve I have come to see that some of the the rare and protected species in this household need to have adventures of their own (a bit like Peter Rabbit exploring the vegetable garden). Oldest boy is having a New Year's Eve sleepover with friends, leaving us woodland creatures to keep our nest cosy and warm for his return. It won't feel right without him but it's all about growing up and finding friends to journey through life with I guess. Happy New Year to you Pom Pom. Betty x

Dearest Pom Pom, I feel like an honored guest every time I visit your blog. It is just like stepping into the coziest house in the deep dark forest and having tea and being read to and tucked into bed and allowed to dream and dream and dream. I'll be smiling all day today over this particular post!! And thank you for the heads up on the BBC production of Wind in the Willows. I will look for it right away. That first photo on your post is enchanting! Thank you for casting a spell on us. xo Kari

Hello Pom Pom. What a lovely desceription of blog-land. I like the thought of visiting, and being visited, in this way. I hope to be doing a bit more of it than of late - I have come out of hibernation! Happy New Year to you and yours.

Did any of us have any idea how blogging would affect our lives when we began? I certainly did not but it has certainly enriched it.
I too live on the outskirts of a city but also thankfully on the 'outskirts' of the country side giving access to both.

Every blessing for this coming year.
