How Do You Like Your Bears?

I asked the kids in my writer's workshop class to think of their favorite story and explain why they liked it. One shy boy said The Three Little Pigs which is close to mine, Goldilocks and the Three Bears.
I'm not fond of Goldilocks because she really shouldn't have entered the bears house uninvited, but I'm glad she did because I like snooping around inside. I want our house to resemble the bears' house in several ways:
1. big old-fashioned bed with patchwork quilt (white sheets)
2. One dish for each person
3. One chair for each person (Mama Bear's = the softest)
4. storybook cupboards holding useful and beautiful bits and bobs
5. a path out to the woods for porridge-cooling walks

I really can't blame sneaky Goldilocks for jumping into this perfect bed, can you?

Because I love the three so much, I want my bears to look a certain way. I like the scruffy ones above.

See what I mean about one dish per person? Nice, huh?

VERY nice profiles below. Bears and Pom Poms need to work on their posture.

I DO love Mama's dress, don't you?

Here's Edward bear. I bought him for myself after a morning of Winnie the Pooh reading. I found him at one of my favorite gift stores. He was priced just right. I hug him when no one is looking. I pat his soft back and kiss him. Sometimes he sports a pink apron. I try to remember to put him on my pillow before I go to school, but sometimes he lays around among the dust bunnies on the wood floor.
I don't know why I fixated on bunnies for a few years. Bears are really my all time favorites. How do you like your bears?

I loved this post :)
I loved the Goldilocks story but always felt mighty cross at Goldilocks - trespass was one thing - and I'm glad she did cos I got to have a nosey too! But scoffing the porridge and breaking the chair! I had a hard time with that as a child!!
I loved the house because it was minimal and tidy. I bought non breakable plates for the caravan today - just a plate each and a bowl each and a drinking cup each - how freeing is that and if I go with the paper plates I bought as back up even less washing up!! Cool.

Hi Lynn!
I love hearing about your caravan. You shall be traveling through the hills and dales! You'd better lock the door or Goldilocks might have a uninvited snoop!

Hello, just found your blog by following a link from "All Things Bright And Beautiful", and it's such a pleasure to read all your ramblings and ponderings..........I too am an avid reader of childrens fiction and have in my collection Milly Molly Mandy, Winnie The Pooh, The Borrowers and far too many more to mention.........all of them well read and now slightly tatty from my childhood. Oh and I love Larkrise To Candleford too, and watch it many times over.

Just going to made a cuppa then I'll be back to have a proper read through your lovely blog.

I always had that sense of fear about what Goldi was doing. I find that story to be stressful and rightly so because she gets caught. My favorite bears are Winnie-the-Pooh and Paddington.

I love "Little Bear", but I REALLY love my live, cuddly wuddly, Bradley Bear. He's the best. So warm and comfy. You made a great cub, mama bear.

i'm imagining how much simpler life would be if i only had one simple place setting each . . . if company came i guess they'd have to bring their own~!

Winnie the Pooh is a great bear . . . you know for such a simple bear he sure has become popular. i wonder how many place settings he had?

Your post reminds me of the little house my stepdad made me for my bears' family! I spent so many hours playing with them! I think they were dressed in gingham and felt!

P.S. Re your question about the hot weather..we're having more than 30°C like it was Summer! That's crazy!

I love bears. I would wonder if I have always loved them. I love Big Bear, but Pooh will always be my favorite (Shepherd more so than Disney, of course). I love you so much!

I love bears, I love Pooh Bear, but there is a special place in my heart for a tatty old Panda who sits on my dressing table. He is patched and darned, missing an eye patch, wearing an old baby vest to protect what remains of his fur ( and the vest is 40 years old plus) and has repairs on just about every part of him. I took him to bed with me every night from very early, before I can remember childhood right up to getting married.

I love bears, my toys as a child were two jointed bears called Yano and Jaja. These days I have a very small paddington bear who lives in my car and comes on all my journeys with me - come to think of it I haven't seen him recently so will search him out. Maybe will do a little post. Bettyx

I always told the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears to my children when I cut their hair. They always sat so still when I'd be trimming them and it was a story that didn't take very much thinking while I cut. I especially like the Jan Brett version of The Three Bears because she does the most detailed art.

I also love Pooh bear because he likes honey and is a bear of very little brain.

Sweet post!

Your bears are great! I really enjoyed this post. I love bears and I have always wanted to see a real one hiking in the woods (just not too close maybe!). I truly love Little Bear. My daughter has just outgrown the show. I shall miss him dearly.

I do love bears. I was watching a documentary the other night about polar bears. They were so adorable! I hug my favourite stuffed animal too, except he's a monkey. At the moment he is wrapped in a shawl because I'm afraid he might be cold this time of year. I'm only 34, so it's fine right?

Hi Pom Pom - I love this post - probably because I still have some adorable teddy bears and a wonderfully soft cuddly rabbit. So sweet to read this!

Hi Pom Pom! I am not quite back in blogland yet, but wanted to stop by to wish you well these last few days of school. Oh, I know how the last of the school year feels. Mixed feelings every which way. I love your "three bears house" idea. My house is still such a mess. We are painting the bedroom door and doorway today. I will try to look at my house through the lens of Goldilocks and the Three Bears, for there is nothing so powerful as the old fairytales. Love you so much!! Kari
