My Favorite Downton Abbey Peeps

In between carrying things up and down the stairs (I'm moving my Pom Pom room up two flights of stairs - yikes, my aching back!) I have been watching season 2 of Downton Abbey.  I have favorite characters and I have good reasons for choosing my favorites.  I thought you might like to know which characters I like best (unabashed self-absorbed behavior, I know).

First off, I really like Carson.  He is so proper and has a very big servant's heart.  His standards are impeccable and if he didn't fuss so much, well, the table wouldn't look perfect and everyone would freak out.  Just kidding.  I really do like his sweet heart.  He's sentimental.
Lady Crawley speaks so properly and says funny things.  She's snoopy and assumptive.  I like the twinkle she gets in her eye when she's giving unasked for advice.
Cora is my favorite.  She  is so lovely.  She delivers her lines in such an elegant manner.  Her dialect is so dignified and soft.  Her voice tones are amazingly original.  She sounds like herself and nobody else.  I like that.
Matthew Crawley personifies a true gentleman. He's smart and full of integrity.  He's fun to watch.
Isobel Crawley is played by Penelope Wilton.  I liked her in Calendar Girls, too.  She's pretty and strong-willed.  She shows her disappointment.  She really has a lovely face.
Anna Smith also delivers her lines gracefully.  Her character is so kind and true.  I like people that do the right thing and make kindness their first priority.
I had such a nice weekend with the upstairs people and the downstairs people while I tromped up and down my own stairs.
I can't wait for season 3 in January!
What characters do you like and why?

Every time I watch Downton Abbey I feel like I am on a wonderful vacation. I can just put the sound track on my IPod and I walk around with a smile on my face. I love all of the characters too. I am looking forward to the next season too. So glad you are a fan. Don't work so hard moving your room. :)

Pom, I've never seen this series, not even one episode. I'm so far behind, I think I'm in first place.

I have to agree with you. I have found that the characters I did NOT like at first have become a little more sympathetic...well, not ALL of them like that nasty fellow who's name I can't think of but who is always doing bad things with that old maid woman. I love to see what they will be wearing and of course the scenery makes me very happy, too.

Don't work too hard, Poms, because two flights sounds a bit like WORK to me.

I have a soft spot in my heart for Lady Mary, and rather surprisingly for O'Brien, even though she was a bad seed in Season 1. And I love Mr. Bates. I hope he doesn't hang!

I just started watching this series this past season. I didn't see all of the episodes, just the ones toward the end. I must say that I found the story line very interesting. I love this time period, all the proper etiquette, the tea times and so on. I will have to start tuning in again for this season. Hope you have the best of weeks, dear friend~Sending love and hugs to you~Vicki

Oh ALL of your favourites too, PomPom - but also Phyllis Logan as Elsie the housekeeper [have loved her ever since her early days in 'Lovejoy'] She is up there with Mrs Bridges in the original 'Upstairs Downstairs'
and best of all, Lord Grantham/Hugh Bonneville. He's a good and honourable man.
busy watching re-runs of series 1 over here at the minute as we get ready for the new lot to arrive

blessings x

Don't you love the clothes they wear, the importance they put - even in the servant quarters - on sitting down to eat nicely and laying a pretty table, attention to detail .... I think I was born in the wrong era.

I simply must find a way to watch this. I hear all about it and I just know I'd love watching, but I haven't. If I haven't watched the first season, will I be lost in season two?

Oh Pom Pom, I've only ever seen one episode and that was last year's Christmas Special. I've seen some very clever satires on it too! I loved the Maggie Smith character- last week OC and I watched the DVD of the Exotic Whatever Marigold Hotel. Have you seen it? Maggie Smith also cruelly fabulous in it. But Bill Nighy stole stole stole the movie for me.

Oh such a wonderful show! I recorded season 2 and I have been re-watching it until the new season gets here. My fav's are: Daisy ever since she matured and let Wiliams father into her life. Lady Crawley because who does not love Maggie Smith and Edith because she stepped up during the war and started to act less nastily. :) Kit

Even my husband and I have been watching!
Before I mention my favorite characters I have to say that my favorite *dress* was that creamy flowing one with drapey bows here and there that Matthew's fiancé wore twice in this series. It was the most beautiful dress I've ever seen. Too many of the dresses are too flappery for me.
Mary is becoming one of my favorite characters, but I like Carson, too, and Lord Crawley...
Mr. Bates is less likeable all the time because I am now wishing he didn't start up with Anna until he was actually divorced.
Maid O'Brien has been a trial but now that she is more conflicted about her loyalties she is getting interesting. I wondered for a while if there would ever be character development with her.
It is quite a production - so much drama at such a rate of development.

I have to confess that I've never seen it, although I have heard of it. I just might have to remedy that through the winter months. So good to be back visiting you again, my friend!

Blessings!
