Smile and Go About Your Own Work

"No matter who says what, you should accept it with a smile and do your own work. " ~Mother Teresa
I guess I have been thinking about school, school, school. This is a meeting week, meetings every day during my planning time, and it feels way too spin-y. I get tired of listening to what people say (not the kids, the "grown ups") and I wish I could find a quiet pocket to huddle and shake my head a bit so ideas and concerns could fall into place. I like Mother Teresa's words, don't you? I keep trying to arrange the papers on my desk so I can see my way clear and recognize what's done and what is crying out to GET DONE. Then the kids come in, in a cloud of middle school angst and bounce. Yesterday, my challenging class was so full of buzz that I quite felt like one nurse in a crowd of one hundred sick people. Most likely today will be quieter, that's the rhythm. I think I may eat my lunch alone today, door locked, the hum of quiet, and a savoring of twenty five short minutes of peace. Sound like a good idea?

"It is sad to grow old, but nice to ripen." ~Brigitte Bardot
One of the students asked me if I gossiped when I was in eighth grade. Yes. I was very much a busy body. They complain about all the "drama" generated at school. Ugh. I'm so glad that grown ups can put all that crazy talk aside and seek peace. But, can they? I hear plenty of crazy talk from the adults, too. Oh, I'm starting to feel the urge for a brownie.

Okay, so go about my work. I can do that.
Remember, I have ripened and that means I'm juicy, bright, and ready.
Smile a lot. Okay.

And don't talk so much, Pom Pom.

Time to read and journal.
Thank you for stopping in and reading to the end. Have a few of those hugs and kisses at the top of the page please!

Oh I love the ripened quote! I am a highschool teacher and I swear it's the kids that keep me young. I have had plenty of meetings like that as well and I all I can say is that I am so glad that I teach art. Making art in the classroom is the thing that keeps me grounded!

Only 25 mins for lunch? that's too short - how about a nice walk, a change of scenery? - hope your school has grounds? and some nuts and grapes to nibble on as you go along.

Bless you! It takes a very special person to teach middle schoolers. They do make lots of drama. But I know some women (and a few men) who excel in making drama, well into their 80s. Sigh.

I love the idea of J. K. Rowling that Professor Dumbledore has a Pensieve- the big bowl into which he empties his head of thoughts that encroach and entangle, and he watches them float around there until they become clear, or not! He taps hos head with his magic wand to put the thoughts in, but I think you tap yours with your nice pen (see Angela yesterday!) and swirl them into your journal! My challenging classes are off timetable tomorrow for GCSE choices interviews- way hey for me!

thank you. thank you. thank you.
hugs and kisses always welcome here~!

it sounds as though you need a few extra's this week too . . . how about a hot bath, soft candlelight and a single piece of especially good dark chocolate before you get into a comfy nest of a bed and sleep it all off . . . i'm wishing that for you.

i love finding Mother Teresa's words . . . like sustaining breadcrumbs in a too fast world leading us to quieter waters . . . she was amazing~! and her words always ring true.

take care Pom Pom.

One of the reasons I stopped teaching in the university is because of the meetings. One of the reasons I got out of arts advocacy is because of the meetings. Talk talk talk!

I do hope you get some time to yourself to regenerate. And eat chocolate. Chocolate will help!

Pom Pom, I always ate my lunch alone in my classroom. I found I needed those few minutes all alone in order to restore my soul for the rest of the day. I missed out on all the gossip in the teachers' lounge, of course, but that might have been just as well! xo Kari

A lovely collection of red mugs :) I feel the same about office talk every day. If only I could follow Mother Teresa's words... Hope as I grow older, it would be easier to forget all that I hear and focus only on my work.
