What About CAKE?

Hello to you!  Finally the snow is gone and I am getting ready to plant some flower seeds.  I shall try to be more orderly when planting.  It makes it so much easier and nicer to see the new sprouts in two weeks time.  One year I had James help and he does what he's supposed to (such a good boy) but because I was preoccupied with our fun garden morning, I promptly forgot what we planted and where we planted the seeds.  This year I'll write it down in my garden journal (must hunt for it).
The strawberries at the grocery store are HUGE.  This is an old berry photo, but I intend to buy some berries today.
This is a neighbor's lovely array of tulips, but I do have a few small tulips ready to pop.
I have a question for my UK and Australian and New Zealand friends.  When you use the word CAKE, do you mean a baked birthday cake type of cake or do you also mean a banana loaf or other fruit loaf, too?  So, please answer in the comments (everyone, please) what CAKE means to you!

I ordered a thumb brace for my right hand because my thumb is poppy.  I can't write and draw (and color) quite as easily so I am going to try to rest it via a brace.
Just thought you should know (😂)
I love you for stopping in!  I hope you are doing well, getting a few laughs every day and EATING CAKE!

Hi Pom. I love tulips. So goad you have some in your yard. Here is Salt Lake City, the tulips I planted last fall have been especially beautiful and colorful this year. I love the tulips in your neighbor's yard. I am supposed to get a thumb brace for my thumb as well and I will as soon as this social distancing thing lets ups a bit - if it ever does. I am American, but to me, cake means Happy Birthday, and oh so yummy! Hope you have a good weekend.

Here cake is definitely a sweet, sponge/chocolate/fruit cake, not so much a loaf type.
I'm trying not to bake at the moment. It's too easy to eat!

You are lucky to be able to plant your seeds. It'll be another two or three weeks here. I'd just be happy for sun!

I call cake the kind of cake that is a birthday or cupcake. Soft, not dry but crumbly with fine, soft crumbs. However, what I call lemon bread, Martha Stewart (her recipe) calls Lemon Cake. It's quite dense, maybe like a pound cake. That probably doesn't help!

Good luck with the plantings. Nothing green or growing here yet. We are still in the 30F most of the days---did get up into the 40s today.
I have been wearing a wrist/thumb brace for almost 2 months. It has helped tremendously. I sprained it doing something foolish....Stay Safe- xo Diana

I think of cake as the birthday type cake too.
The flowers are all very pretty.
Love those strawberries!!

Your tulips are lovely.
For me, cake means cake, like birthday cake and more. I love carrot cakes, coffee cake with some strudel. Then there are fish cakes which are just patties made of fish, potatoes, and onions and fried in a pan. Banana Bread is a quick bread and is bigger than muffins but in the same category.
I love them all.
Hugs, Julia

Cake is like birthday cake or layered cake in my mind. Banana bread and other things baked in loaf pans are something different in my mind. Those berries look great as do those tulips!

I love cake. Just yesterday I made an angel food cake ( from a box mix) and will have it on the weekend with strawberries we picked a couple of years ago. We're working on eating things from the bottom of the freezer!!
I hope your thumb brace does the trick and you can get back to doing all the things you like pain free.

Beautiful Tulips dear Pom Pom - one of my favourites. To me cake means cake including birthday or Christmas or fruit cake or banana cakes or apple cakes ... I currently have a Feijoa cake in my tins. But I would call date loaf or banana loaf = not cake but loaves. Hope this makes sense. xx

Us Aussies call all everything cake....birthday cake, banana cake, chocolate cake, orange cake etc etc, whatever flavour, it's all cake to us. Though there is date loaf and banana bread....so complicated, isn't it. Love the tulips. It's your turn to drink in all the spring flowers. Hope your thumb is better soon, dear Pom Pom.

Good morning! From a sunny and warmer Montana. Cake is a layer cake to me. With lots of frosting. Just made another banana bread and cinnamon rolls. Have a great weekend. 😊 Kit

I've planted tulip bulbs for several years and never had a tulip bloom due to some critter munching on them. So far this year they are doing well, so fingers crossed. When I hear "cake" I think of birthday type cake with frosting! This is the time of year when strawberries are huge and sweet. I plan to get some our next shopping trip to make into strawberry shortcake.

I love tulips :)

As a very loose, rough guide a cake is round and a loaf is rectangular,

Sponge cake, fruit cake, chocolate cake round

Banana Loaf, Date Loaf rectangular

Of course then there are mug cakes, square cakes, swiss rolls etc !
Can be mind boggling :)

Happy Sunday to you.

All the best Jan

Enjoy your gardening! I'm still trying to think of an "easy" way to do it, lol. Might have to think for another year! Enjoy your cake and strawberries! :)

I'm very broadminded about cake, having created many odd versions over the course of my cooking years. I've been thinking for weeks now about baking a cake, and when I saw your title it occurred to me that it was the voice of God giving me the go-ahead ;-)

My tulips are up, but not in bloom yet. The daffies are starting to bloom though! The tulip painting is so pretty. Did you paint it?

I love cake and I don't care what kind it is -- loaf or round or 9x13. It's all good to me!

Your neighbor's tulips are so pretty! I find a gardening journal really helps me as well to remember what I have done in my garden, but every year there are always surprises! I love cake... and for me, cake has to be something that you would or could put frosting on. It is light, airy and moist. I would say that banana bread is heavier, and denser. Just my opinion. But of course, eat cake, any kind of cake! Many blessings!

Cake is usually something sweet, but not yeasted. Baked - flour, sugar, butter, usually eggs. I talk about a Banana cake but others say Banana Loaf. But I talk about tea bread - which is a cake. So I'm no help at all. It's just GOOD!

All of those loaf cakes are er- cakes, definitely!!!!
Lovely tulips- both the real ones and your painted ones!

Your photos are all so colorful, happy, comforting! Spring is here, and summer is around the corner. In one month we will be at the beach with family ... I hope! HOoray!

I think of cake as a sponge, but there are other kinds of cake textures too. A layer cake is "real" cake, but a sheet cake will do in a pinch. But a loaf? Just a loaf :)
