Sponge Success

Finally I achieved sponge making success!  I used my Italian flour and Lynn's recipe and it worked!  I made the smallest little cake and tasted it.  YUMMY.  It was scrumptious, but with all that butter it's pretty much a no-no for me (dairy does NOT agree with me) and even with Italian organic flour, I still felt the inflammation.  No fun. Oh well.  I'll just save my suffering for Easter when I WILL bake something or somethings very delicious and I WILL eat them.

My laptop is old and slow, so I've not felt like fussing with it or waiting for it to do its job. I haven't been doing things that require a computer, so that's why I haven't been writing as many posts.

But I have been sewing up a storm and I am finally finished with the costumes that were my responsibility.  Whew.  It was hard.  I don't sew on slippery fabric and my sewing machine did not like the mermaid knit.  Now I can knit, knit, knit and go back to sewing when I feel inspired.
A friend in my bookclub told me about this book. It's fascinating.  It reads like a textbook but I don't mind.

I'm tired from feeling stressed about getting the sewing finished and lately I've noticed that I have residual flusters when responsibility oriented tasks are finally completed.  I don't just finish, enjoy the sense of relief, and move on.  I have to have time to recover.  Ha!
So tomorrow I am going to do cozy things (drink coffee and knit) and inspired things (make the guest bed and rearrange a few tabletops).  It's still too early to buy plants at the garden center.
Happy April, friends!
Thank you for popping in to say hello!

Yay for the sponge cake success. Sorry, it still doesn't agree with your tummy. Your knitting looks gorgeous. I bet once you see the kids wearing all those costumes, you will rejoice and be glad.

I've been reading a lot online and also studying the Holy Bible with our group. My husband is coordinating this Bible study. I should go to the library to borrow some books but I've been in the spring cleaning mode although I'm doing it slowly. I've been spending more time playing cards with my husband in the evenings and haven't been on the computer as much during Lent.

I can see large patches of ground on the lawn and some daffodils and tulips are poking out next to the house and I saw my first Robin last week and today the St John River has opened up in front of our house.
Happy April Fools Day.
Hugs, Julia

Look at all that pink woolly loveliness. I don't do slipper fabrics neither, nor does my machine. So wonderful you have finished those mermaid tails.I would love a piece of that delicious look cake please. =) Enjoy your day knitting and drinking coffee.

Thanks a lot!

I am so happy your sponge turned out. It looks so yummy. I really like that color. I am so glad you posted the picture of that book.
I hope you have a wonderful day.

The sponge, your knitting, everything looks so yummy. Can you eat coconut without inflammation? That's the creamy rich thing that is a nice option when one can't have butter. BUT I've had mixed results with coconut oil in cookies. Seems like there is an aftertaste, at least in shortbread.

After stressful events are past, I often get heart arrhythmias! They say that for some of us the heart rate may increase during the stressful time, and then when you are calming down again it has to go through these irregular periods while settling down to normal. I certainly know how you feel. It's good if you can have a span of time to "settle back down" and not have another big responsibility with a deadline to jump into right away.

I'm glad your costume job is over and done. That was an enormous project and I admire you taking it on but deadlines can be so stressful. Looks like it's time to relax and enjoy!

Hello Pom Pom! Just want to say how much I still enjoy your posts. Oh boy, that stress of a big job and all the flutters that go with it! I sympathize. And empathize! Arranging a few tabletops sounds like the perfect antidote.

I shall have to look up that book. The cover itself is quite intriguing and makes me curious.

Have a lovely day.

Glad you're done with the costumes. I know the feeling. PTS seems to set in easily these days. I'm going through the process of learning to lean on the Lord more and more! Congratulations on the sponge cake and have a great time reading and knitting! Love you, girl!

Have-to-do projects just aren't that fun, and working with slippery fabric is really not fun! Glad that it is over for you, and hope you get to enjoy some fun down-time! We have had two weeks of sunshine, and now it is turning to rain-time. But we do need the rain for our May flowers :) Glad that you able to get back to your fun projects, and I agree, blogging on a slow computer is not fun at all. Give Timmy a hug for me :) Blessings!

Nothing like an old slow computer to squelch our desire to blog. Sorry. I'm finding I need more and more recovery days these years after projects or stressful events. I'm happy you can go to your "happy" knitting place to recover. That's some pretty yarn. Our travels lately have made me slow in visiting my regular blogs on my list. Happy April to you!

That cake looks fabulous! I know what you mean about recovery time. I want to take a week off when I finish my class. I need to take some time and figure out how to add your blog to my side bar.

Your beautiful sponge cake would be very tempting! I understand not wanting the inflammation, and being tempting anyway because of the deliciousness! It was nice to read your cozy post. I look forward to another when you nesting and stitching and slow technology allow!

That's disappointing that you still felt the inflammation, even with the good flour :( I was hoping you'd discover a real difference. Well, it's still good that the cake turned out well. Your knitting is lovely - your sweaters are amazing!!
We have to keep evaluating ourselves as we age, don't we? Figure out how we are coping with stress. I can feel myself overloading with too many commitments this time of year. Need to back off. I hope you find a few days of peace to straighten up your feathers :)

Well that cake looked the business, shame you couldn't enjoy it though. Do you think maybe you would have less inflamation with gluten free cooking/flour? I am not a good cake maker but remember my grandmother telling me a big/light cake is all about how much air you get into it and much lecturing on 'folding' air into the mix.. I never succeed so make double the quantity of any cake I attempt to allow for the flump/flat scenario! Have you seen Susan Branch posts lately about diet/healthy eating? she's really into it - I went out and got a seed mix on the strength of her last post lol! It is surprisingly delicious to sprinkle the mix on my porridge! Hope you have lots of fun making more cake at Easter and maybe getting to eat some yourself :)

I'm really very sorry about the cake discomfort. That does seem relatively hard- in the sense that all things are said to be relative, and in the life of small pleasures after large jobs, a lack of cake is relatively hard... I wear your beads still when I need cheering up x

I think it's nice to take time to relax and reflect after finishing big projects. I've recently finished a large blanket and am happily working on a number of smaller items and some book reading. All the best with your plans, Cathy x

Hello 😊I'm glad the baking worked. Sorry you didn't feel so good. As I get older I'm finding that breads, cakes, pastries make me feel poorly, also wine, fried things and some dairy. And I've gone right off meat. Doesn't leave a lot left to eat does it? 😂😂🤣

Ps forgot to say, love your knitting x
