More Valley Beauty

 While I was in Washington, I went to my sister-in-laws farm stand.  She and a friend bake shortcake (they are scrumptious and sweet and look like scones) and sell berries all summer long. It's a darling little oasis.

 I tasted a little pie, too.  Heavenly!
 They make fresh strawberry milkshakes.  Slurp!

 The stand is surrounded by fields of corn.  The valley hosts such bounty.  I love my homeland.

 Then we went to my other brother's lake rental.  He's going to sell it, so it was empty.  We liked poking around.
 Do you have a lake nearby?  We have reservoirs, not lakes (sad for this Washington lady).  Even so, I should call a friend and acquaint myself with the closest body of water.  There are trails and many nature views.  Back to the lake . . .

Here's a nice old tree near the lake shore.
Does it remind you of Joyce Kilmer's poem?  I'll leave you with it, good poem-lover.  Bye!

Trees

BY JOYCE KILMER
I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.

A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the earth’s sweet flowing breast;

A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;

A tree that may in Summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;

Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.

Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.

What a pretty place! I'd love one of those hand pies just now. Yum! We don't have many lakes where I live, but reservoirs or dug-outs. In the Hills there are some lakes though.

Hi PomPom!!!! i am so behind on all things in the blog world. :) I've had your blog open for two days so I can catch up and say hi! ha ha!!! Might take me another day to catch up. :) LOVE your hair cut by the way. I hope I have beautiful white hair like that when it is my turn. How fun would a farm stand be?!!! Oh i know it must be a lot of work but look at all those beautiful goodies! And how fun to serve them to people! I see the blackberries too. :) We are so blessed to have a reservoir just 1 mile from us and we have a pass to the park there so I can drive over and hike whenever I want (or the schedule allows :).

We are into the full swing of things -- rachel went to high school on July 30. She is doing so well there -- it was an easier transition than I thought. She's playing golf for a fall sport at school this year -- new to us but perfect for this nature-loving mother!!!!! It's a whole new learning curve to get her from golf each day or attend the matches and still have food for the family for dinner. Andrew is doing online public school at home and LOVING it. Perfect for him and his computer love. :) The younger three are being homeschooled by me and that is just my pace -- 5th, 3rd, PreK and so I don't need to overwork or be worried about what we are doing too much. And the younger 4 still clamor for reading aloud time at night which is my favorite. We are reading a "cousin" of the Swallows and Amazons series -- The Far Distant Oxus. Well, must get the day started. :)

We are short on natural lakes here, aren't we? Such lovely views.

I haven't read that poem for years, and I'm not sure I ever read the whole thing -- delightful! What a sharp imagination she has. Those photos are so peaceful. Isn't water that way? I like the slope of that tree -- I like trees that gently lean. Sometimes they lean longingly over water.

The farm stand makes me a little envious. I really want a "stand" of my own, at my house, open each day for a few hours, just to sell my stuff. I wonder if anybody would come by? Hard to say. The farmer's market drama is a joy-killer, but my own farm stand :) yes! Now I want a strawberry milkshake in the worst way - haha!

What a cute little farmstand, and such beautiful green views all around! My favorite sort of place.

The lake is beautiful! Reminds me of the part of Minnesota where I live. Oh yeah! We have lakes! But I do remember Colorado's lack of them. But you're blessed to get to visit family that lives near such a beautiful one! :)
