On Wednesday

It's the beginning.  Of Lent.  We look ahead to Easter.  My mother always shopped for or made Easter dresses for her girls.  One year she made a dress like my drawing above.  Soft yellow print calico, a tulle skirt, a tie in the back.  I can remember many of my Easter dresses, and THIS was my favorite.  I like fitted waists even though I have never had a small waist.  Ha!  I love the reverence suggested by Christmas dresses and Easter dresses, the acknowledgement of "special" and "important".

In the new Simply Knitting (UK) there is an Alan Dart pattern for a gnome!  The hands look tricky, but I think I can follow the directions.
Floss is hosting A Pause in Lent again.  If you wish to participate, you should pop over and tell her.  It's a sweet community and a yearly treat.
Flowers and the earth's bounty do not gather dust or demand a storage spot for long.  I've been eating tangelos and the orange peel is so very fire-bright and supple.  Why not put one in your bag and give it away today?

I stitched this little piece of cloth over twenty years ago.  I still love it.  The trumpets.  There is something about trumpets.  Smile.
What are you dreaming about as you anticipate Easter?  Spring?  The feeling of eager excitement gives us great HOPE.  Hope has no price tag, no payment plan, no heavy burden.  Hope is there.  I just might ask a few people at school today, "What does the word HOPE make you think about? What comes to mind?"
Thank you so much for stopping in and checking on me.

I would say that I am always hopeful that things will turn out favorably. I remember only one Easter outfit. She my best friend's mom made matching outfits for us. We loved pretending to be twins.

Hope makes me think of what's ahead for all of us who love Jesus. Nothing that happens to us on this earth can keep us from our appointed destination in Heaven with Him and all those that we've loved in this life. :)

I can't wait to see your knitted gnome!

Looking forward to going outside and playing in the dirt. Of course, I can't really plant my garden until late May.

XXOO :)

HOPE

'tis the biggest of little words!
It is so important where, upon whom, we place our hope...

What Jeannette said about Hope.

And trumpets - I love trumpets, too. Do you like Wynton Marsalis? There are some old hymns that really go well with the victorious sound of the trumpet...

My mom always made my Easter dresses as well. I remember one with those raised polka dots--what are they called? Do you know what I mean? I think the dress was a light blue, and I'm sure it had a sash. I would have probably worn it with white maryjanes.

I'm hopeful that Spring will come and my garden will be beautiful.

Your are so sweet PomPom, the yellow calico print dress look so pretty. What an amazing memory you have but a gift like that is something that stays in our memory forever. That gnome in the garden is something special, an eye-catching character in the garden. Hope you had a good Ash Wednesday. And yes Hope is a big word. Where there is hope there is life.
Enjoy the upcoming weekend

Love thinking off all those dresses from girlhood days. I still have a few of them tucked in a "memory box." I may have to pull that box out soon and stroll down memory lane.

Loved checking in and finding such a cheery post.

To me, hope is based on a certainty not just wishful thinking.

To me, hope goes with faith. "Faith if the substance of things hoped for."

Love Easter dresses for little girls. Yours was sweet and what a good memory of your mother's gift of sewing for you.

Hi, dear Pom. I love how you post pictures of the vegetable shelves at the grocery during the course of the year. It's darling! The colors are so bright and attractive. This year I'm eagerly anticipating Easter. Each year it seems to me the wonder -- the eternal miracle -- of Jesus's atonement for us grows in my mind. It dominates the universe. Our church will hold a Seder Meal on Thursday before Easter in order to help everyone understand all the significance of the meal and its parts, so we understand the Easter season more and the Lord's Supper too.
