Good February Seventh

It's our Kelli's birthday today.  Do you like thinking about birth days?  I remember the red and white print flannel nightgown I wore in the hospital.  We had our first two kids via natural childbirth.  Ouch.  Because there were no drugs in me, I felt super spry after Kelli was born and I took a shower, dried my hair, got back in bed and waited for the nurses to hand my little pink beauty to me.  She nursed right away.  I fell in love.  She's such a dear blessing and now she is a mother of three girls herself.  I'm a proud mama.
My hyacinth blooms are gone and the tulips drooped and died.  It's time to buy more.  Valentine's Day is a good time to buy flowers!  Onward to the floral department!
It is SO cold here.  I am so looking forward to a spot of spring weather soon.  It will feel so good to pad around the neighborhood when the icebergs are gone.
Yesterday the high school girl that I am mentoring stopped by after school.  I am supervising her sophomore project.  She created her plan in September and it involves learning to knit and creating items to give away.  She's a very busy young lady. She's in about a million clubs and she participates in sports, too.  She's down to the wire with this knitting project and she simply does not have enough time to knit.  When she told me all the things she has on her plate I was filled with sympathy.  I realized again that knitting cannot be rushed and that's why I like it.  I gave her an easy hat pattern (she was struggling with five double-pointed needles) and I hope she doesn't lose sleep as she winds up her work.  Yikes!
Here is one of Kelli's good babies, getting a big nose-bending smooch from Granny!  I am hoping the cowboy boots I ordered for Kelli arrive today!
Soon the grape hyacinths in Jeff's front lawn will pop up.  Last year, I snatched them up.  Don't they smell delicious?
Oh!  The poetry coffee house was wonderful.  Many students said, "Thank you so much!" and when they were reading their poetry by candlelight (little battery powered lamps) we all relaxed and enjoyed a break from the hustle and bustle of the day.
I hope Kelli likes her new boots.  Do you think she will?
Hooray for the weekend!  Whew!

The boots are so fun!
Double-pointed needles! To a non-knitter the thought of learning how to use them is fraught with terror! That young lady is lucky to have you for a mentor!
Thanks so much for your sweet letter. It was very encouraging. I'm preparing something to send you, too!
Have a great weekend. Hope you get in some knitting or reading or whatever your heart desires! :)

Very cute boots and such a great present! I am just about ready for some spring weather, hyacinths and baby smooches myself. All three of those things are precious miracles, aren't they?

oh my~! those are some really gorgeous boots~!!
happy birthday to Kelli~!
isn't it interesting how a child's birthday can light up those memories in our brains of their first few days/weeks of life? such a sweet time to be a mother . . . one of my favorite memories is holding my daughter up on my knees and talking and cooing at her when suddenly she broke into this enormous (first) grin. i burst into happy tears and will never forget it.

You're all about footwear today, Pom! The cute little girl boots in your header, your very-adorable green slip-on sneakers, and then those truly beautiful boots for your girl! I'm sure she'll love them. Thank you so much for the photos of blooms -- we NEED to see them this time of year, don't we?!
