Dishes

When we buy tiny china tea sets, we risk major breakage.  We do not get discouraged.  Birdie saw this owl tea set at the toy/learning store and even though she has remaining pieces from other tea set purchases, she fell in love with this box of tea party loveliness.  She used some of her own money and some of Mommy's money, carried it away, and opened it up over at Granny's house.
She invited Miss Bug to the tea party.  Millie Rose was outside messing around in Granny's Wendy house.

I spoke with my mom yesterday.  My dad is in the hospital (please pray for healing) and she is packing up their winter house because they have sold it.  She said, "I have the tea cups all boxed up for you."  Yay!  I can't wait to receive her tea cups!  Do I NEED tea cups?  No.  Do I want them?  YES.
Women like dishes.  Just this morning I filled a  big pottery mug with cold water before I went downstairs.  I thought, "This is a good mug. It keeps the water so cold."  When I poured the coffee, I chose a parrot green mug for Bill and I thought, "What a nice cup this is, sort of warped, not quite perfect, but lovely."
When I take plates from my little cupboard and serve our supper, I get a little joy-buzz from admiring my old plates.
I have been watching the old program "Keeping Up Appearances" and it is very funny.  Hyacinth loves her china and she calls mugs beakers. It's all meant to be silly and laughable, but the reason her lines are funny is because we ARE sort of fussy with our dishes.
What kinds of tea things do you like?  Fine and delicate?  Sturdy and earthy? I like to go on Etsy and look at hand-thrown pottery.  If I lived in the forest, in a tree trunk, I would have thick rustic-looking beakers!
For heaven's sake, I do not need any more dishes.  I don't need anymore anything really.  I WILL keep loving dishes though.  All sorts.  Will you?

You had me at 'DISHES'. Of course, without a doubt, I will keep LOVING dishes...all sorts...forever and ever! I get a 'JoyBuzz' (love that) every time I open my cabinet or as Hyacinth would say 'cupboard'.

Oh, the Owl Tea Set is adorable. I hope Miss Bug has many 'JoyBuzzes' and memories of Tea at Grandma's.

Blessings and JoyBuzzes,
Sue

The owl tea set is precious! I like earthy pottery dishes for the house I live in now... but love to pull out my Grandma's fine china tea cups or place ware for just a "moment in time" sometimes.

Like you, I love china. I keep my mother's rose decorated tea set, though it is a bit fragile to use. I have some beautiful French china which does come out from time to time.

Sweet little owl tea set, and look at the delicate way those girls are holding their tea cups, so sweet! :)

I do love old dishes, but they take a lot of storage space and care! :)

Big hugs to you, I'm praying for your Dad. xxx

Well, Pompom, my friend, you KNOW I am a dishaholic!! I love dishes of all kinds, but I am especially drawn to delicate handpainted china pieces. No, a person can never have too many teacups. Please post pictures when you get those from your mother. I think Birdie is a dishaholic in the making. She must take after her grandmother! Have a blessed and happy day and upcoming week. . .Vicki

The little tea set is so pretty. Yes, I do know what you mean by a love for dishes. I have been going to thrift shops looking for cheap plates that I can fashion into those gorgeous dish flowers. I am finding things that I don't really need and some of the dishes that were destined for the garden are going to be repurposed. Prayers for your father.

What an adorable tea set! I tend to like more rustic looking dishes but I have some very special teacups/saucers that are floral and delicate and I love them. Prayers being sent for your dad. My dad is also in the hospital with pneumonia. Have a great week!

I must admit to having way too many sets of dishes. They each have their own personalities. I really like antique and vintage ones. Prayers for your father.

It all depends on my mood. Of course, if Uncle Brian is coming for tea, the bone china teapot and tea cups have to make an appearance! He doesn't like tea made in a mug - it has to be made in the teapot and he likes to drink from a china tea cup! I have a very pretty china tea set with forget-me-not flowers which was a present from my parents for my 18th birthday. xx

What a sweet set!!! I especially love eating off pretty plates. I have a hodge podge of Spode and various china that I've picked up thrifting and tjmaxxing and I love, love, LOVE eating off them.

Praying for your dad.

I will be praying for your Mom and Dad. How sweet she had the cups for you. Dishes yes, I have too many dishes!! I do though have my favorite cups and that is what I drink from. Though just this week I bought two boxes of drinking glasses. I do not need drinking glasses, but the ones I bought make ice tea look incredible.
I don't drink iced tea. :) My family does,
It looks so nice to see your grands enjoying your little tea sets.

My favorite mug for coffee is a rustic handmade pottery. It's wide at the bottom and narrows at the top. It really keeps my coffee hot. Still....I like my Bohemian coffee cups too. They are lighter weight, but pretty. The coffee cools off fast in them.

I have lots of tea cups/saucers that I used to take out for monthly tea parties, but I don't do that much anymore. I have some sweet white coffee cups for the littles.

The owl tea set is adorable. It's fun to have tea at Granny's.

My thoughts and prayers for your dear dad.

Praying for healing! God is wonderful at miracles.
I too have a special place in my heart for dishes. My mother collected tea cup and sets and my dad made it a point to buy her a special cup every anniversary. I have my own collection now but no place to display then:( It was sad to not be able to see my parents and the lovely collection we got to use on special days or when we had our monthly tea party when my parents retired to Puerto Rico. I love them all- delicate with periwinkles, tall and thick and sturdy and whimsical ones too. Thank you for the lovely pics… they always put a smile on my face.

The little tea party you and your daughter had was so cute! The dishes are darling!!What fun for you both! Of course, I LOVE ALL kinds of dishes: lovely teacups for tea and mugs for coffee.

Of course you should want those teacups - they keep you connected to your past. I have my grandmother's and truth be told they just sit in the cupboard; but I would not be rid of them (short of disaster!).

What a lovely little tea set too.

Hello Pom Pom, oh your heart must be tender waiting on your Dad's progress..& very challenging for your Mum. It's always a big job packing up a house, especially alone. It will be lovely for you to receive the box of china won't it. It's the plates & dishes that elevate our days & encounters above the mundane to a myriad of little celebrations, I think. When my friend Ruth came for tea on Monday I got out two sets of pretty china & made red, red..raspberry, cranberry & elderflower tea, it was so pretty. We "took" our tea in Lucy & it seemed very special, although very simple.
Big hug my friend. Much love GK x0x0x

That owl tea set is adorable and I like how the girls daintily hold out their pinkies :).
I will remember your dad in prayer. I hope it won't be long until he is returned to good health.
I have many tea cups from my mom and mother-in-law. I think they are pretty to look at, but never drink out of them. I am more of a "pretty" mug person.

I have a teensy weensy set from when daughter Micah was little. Some pieces missing, but so cute! I love your tea set and the thought of colorful, cute dishes which give us a joy buzz, lol!

I've tried hard to comment lately, but sometimes get pop ups that cover the publish button. But I'm here reading your blog! :)

I have way too many sets of dishes, but I do love them! I ordered two more plates off Ebay last week. But they weren't Royal Doulton with handpainted periwinkles! Ha!

Yes, I LOVE dishes too! I try NOT to collect any at this point though. I love big heavy mugs, but I also love delicate and pretty tea cups. If I had room, I would have all kinds!

Blessings!

I was so happy that Jack and Will liked having tea parties. I still use our tea set--which is very manly, solid colors and all that--though mostly for other things, as the cups are rather small ...
