"While visions of sugar-plums danced through their heads"
~ Clement C. Moore
Welcome to "A Childlike Christmas" week three! Wow! Hasn't the time flown by? Today this "child" presents a lot of "sugar plums" also known as SWEETS! Sweets to the sweet! YOU!
Note: The iced animal cookies above must be served with hot cocoa. Just saying.
Have you tried Poppycock? Cashews and caramel mixed with popcorn? YUMMY!
Oops! The Sugar Plum Fairy appears on the scene!
Okay, enough of all the sweet stuff (no actual baking was done for this post) and on to a super star gem of Christmastime: THE ORANGE! Laura and Mary received oranges one Christmas and were thrilled. When we were dating Bill bought me a big sack of oranges because I had extremely sore tonsils when I was in college. Those big oranges were so juicy, so sweet, that I ate ALL of them within twenty four hours. Sometimes oranges are absolutely perfect. Is there any fragrance as lovely as orange peel? I don't think so. Well, maybe evergreen branches.
Below are this granny's sugar plums. Really. Two every morning. They ARE a super fruit!
Isn't it fun thinking like children? I ordered a book that Catherine at An Angel in the Garden recommended. It's called A Childlike Heart. It came today and so far . . . pretty amazing. I leave you with this from the author Alan D. Wright:
"Children never grasp at equality with God. They know they're not in charge. God is waiting patiently for you to make that same, simple discovery."
Check out all the "A Childlike Christmas" bloggers (my sweet friends) on the sidebar. Have yourself a sugar plum.

Those orange candies look so very yummy.
I love that dad brought you a bag of oranges when you were sick. He has always been such a thoughtful servant. I love this. <3
A dear little sugar plum fairy you have there! I would love a sack of oranges - also would love to try the iced animals - haven't had that kind of thing with a hot drink - ever! That book sounds good, hope you can give a few more peeks from it. It's tree day today - yippee! Christmas comes to our house in the branches of a fresh tree - the SMELL is what makes it real for me!
Sweet and juicy post! :) I must check out that book too, it sounds wonderful. I can't believe we are in week three of the party, can you? Hugs to you, xxxx
Well, I am making citrus cleaner from all that orange peel (lots) right now. Peel goes in to a jar with vinegar & sits a few weeks..hey presto we have magic citrus cleaner..well that's the plan. Looks good on the window sill. Got any spare orange peel? So glad you ordered the book. Phew I so needed to be reminded that I'm not in charge just now..I sooo do not want to be! Much love Catherine x
Hello Pom Pom, I have joined in the fun, and written a post about Christmas teddy bears! I am really enjoying your blog x
The child in me (and the adult) is drooling... Somehow breakfast seems on the horizon... so that I can maybe dip into the sweets that are so abundant at this time of year! :)
Blessings, Debbie
Hi Pom! So many yummy treats! Are you going to make a gumdrop tree? And the oranges - so many good things to do with them. I made dried orange slices the other day -- just need to make salt dough ornaments so I can string them onto a garland - in my spare time ;).
Blessings,
G
I have a Santa bowl from the same set as your snowman bowl! I think I'll be featuring it in my post next week...
I adore those little satsumas. I've been eating several a day, but the only time I ever ate a whole bag was when I was pregnant!
Thanks for more Childhood Chrismas fun, Pom Pom.
The oranges out here aren't very good yet because it just finally got cold enough to sweeten them. I'm starving for oranges and I can't wait until they're good.
Pioneer Woman has a recipe for a prune cake, and it's absolutely wonderful. I read a lady's blog about plum pudding, and that prune cake was all I could think of.
Also, my munchkins loved all your candy pictures. :-)
"No actual baking was done for this post." I love it!!! HAhahahaa! I got so hungry, scrolling along past all those cookies. Yum. Some baking had better start around here soon! One more day of homeschooling! I'm crocheting away. Love your dish at the top.
The book sounds good.
Mmmm, I'll have some of those iced animal cookies if I may!
Oh what a wonderful quote - I love it!
Christmas means sweets in bowls, left out to eat as and when and biscuits in boxes and tins, not just the odd roll.
Oh, oranges are SUCH a treat out here! Bought a few when the last ship came in, and I'm saving them for Christmas morning :-)
Checking in after being out of town for a few days. Love your new blog look. The background is so fun.
I always leave here with a smile on my face. I'm loving all of this eye candy (literally) today. I agree with you on the scent of an orange. The last time I peeled one I made a similar comment to my husband. Heavenly.
I do love oranges. Mother always put them our Christmas stockings, but I can eat them any time of year. We are, to some degree, kindred spirits, for as you do, I love to indulge my inner child. You made me smile today and satisfied my sweet tooth that I no longer indulge.
And just noticed: we share our new holiday background. How funny is that!
Sugar plums danced in their heads....
Perfect childlike thinking, Miss Pom Pom. I remember the hard candies at Christmas, do you? The ones with the spearmint trees, the cherry baskets, the ribbon candy. That's what my grandparents always put out and Christmas.
I love those Lil Cuties (clementines?) that are out right now. YUM! Dear Bill....giving you oranges to make you well.
Jody
just realized that i haven't had breakfast yet . . .
there is a quilt in the background of sweet shot #2 that caught my eye. (-;
thank you for helping me to see the child within myself Pom Pom.

Oh dear I am trying mot to eat so much of all the lovely fudge that friends kindly brought on Sunday, but it is too difficult! What a mouth watering post- not helpul in resolve at all. I can smell the sugar plums from all the way over here... Sorry for being so late this week- oh I am tired still! Excited and happy, but tired!
Santa Claus always puts naval oranges in the boys' stockings, and we spend the weeks before Christmas gorging on clementines, my favorite sweets (well, besides chocolate).

Oh yum! I think I'll go have a piece of fudge for breakfast now.
Blessings!
Deborah
