Summer Continues

Hello sweet readers of this ol'blog! I have been away a while even though I said I'd be back soon.  I think there are just too many electronic distractions.  I took Facebook and Instagram off my phone (I left them on my iPad) because I found I was spending a lot of time checking them when I could be thinking about real life doings.  I've also been reading quite a bit (Angle of Repose, Becoming Madeline, Clock Dance, The Story That Inspired the Sound of Music . . . ) and of course, knitting.

This is the exact time of summer when the posies are at their best.  I've pulled a weed or two, but remember I don't like to get dirty so I've not spent hours in the garden. (Just to be honest!  LOL!)

Rhubarb!  I've made sauce, no crumbles or pie.
I must show you what Timothy does when he isn't sleeping.  He LOVES to play in the downstairs shower.  We usually hide this drain cover because he puts it in his teeth and carries it away.  Weird, huh?

Our Kelli bought herself a new sewing machine so she can sew costumes for the theatre company where she directs children's shows.  She's such a smart cookie.  She then decided to buy fabric and recover her outdoor cushions.  I'm so proud of her!  She figures things out and does them.  Good girl!

Speaking of shows.  Her three were in a production of Princess and the Pea just last week.

Birdie played the minister.  She said, "Granny, my costume makes me look like a pope."  It does.

I found this photo of Birdie taken NOT THAT LONG AGO!  Oh, they DO grow fast.  I thought that was just something grandparents say when they can't think of anything else to comment about!  LOL! Now I know it's true.
I also found this old photo of me in my old eighth grade language arts classroom.  The classroom was so cute, but I must admit I was quite chubby.

These days I am thinner, but older.  Of course.  (saggy eyelids)

I took this photo the other evening when Kelli's family came for dinner.  That's my knee that Birdie is lying on.  She wanted her back tickled.  Then, Kelli joined in.  Tired mommies need their backs tickled, too.

I am hosting my bookclub tomorrow so I am doing my usual clean sweep.  It's hard because I am not a routine housekeeper.  I am like a crazy crow.  I dust something and then I put all the teapots and pitchers that have gathered A LOT of dust into the dishwasher.  I suddenly realize that there is too much to do and not enough time to do it.  I adjust my standards.  I wish I didn't care if people find out that I am not efficient.  Smile.  I pray that I could let it go.
I will be (gasp) 60 in December and I've been thinking about it a lot more than I thought about turning 50.  One thing I am really looking forward to is baking a pink cake and eating a LARGE piece.

This morning I enjoyed my devotional routine.  I read Ann Voskamp's daily One Thousand Gifts and write in the space provided. I read my daily 2-year Bible and I read Bible verses and my Thin Within book. I write a little in my journal and then I use the Centering Prayer app on my phone.  I'm very thankful that I have time to do this.  I need discipline. Everybody does.  I'm happy to adhere to the Weight Watcher Freestyle program.  It works for me.  I'm happy to read The Little Book of Hours at night most of the time.  He must become greater and greater and I must become less and less.  This I like about growing older.
God be with you, kind visitors.  YOU are very much appreciated by me.
(BIG WARM HUG!)

I love this post - especially the cute picture of you in your classroom! I teach 7th and 8th grade Language Arts, so I totally relate. My classroom was not nearly that cute, but we also have to move and share classrooms at my junior high, so that isn't much fun. It's a big pain actually. I enjoyed finding out what you have been up to. I have been gone from blogland for a while and it is good to be back!

Your flowers are looking great and three cheers for Kelli! Hope your book club goes well -- was it a good book this time? Do tell!

Such a lovely newsy post!
I enjoyed seeing your photographs - and it's true grandchildren grow too quickly! Enjoy every moment with them.

All the best Jan

Oh, isn't summer going fast . . . I can't believe it is almost August. Looks like you have been having a sweet time with daughter and granddaughters. Ours are coming for a visit soon and I am so excited. I am also doing the Weight Watch Freestyle program and loving it, so far. Of course summer is an easier time to diet than any other time of the year . . . so many fresh garden veggies. That and melons keep me going strong.
Sweet post.
Connie :)

I'm glad you're still blogging. I'm posting less and less and I never seem to have enough time to sit long enough to create interesting posts anymore.

Your flowers are very pretty. Flowers always make me feel in awe of our creator. There are just so many unique and pretty and they are all different and so delicate. They make me so happy. That's why I have so many growing at my place.

About the grandkids growing fast, it seems to me they grow up overnight. It seems like yesterday, they were still so young and now I'm a great-grandmother. I'll be 72 in the fall. How did that happen?

Your daughter Kelly, reminds me of myself years ago. There was nothing I wouldn't try my hand at and somehow it always turned out nicely. I guess I had lots of confidence and energy then...
Enjoy your summer. Hugs, Julia

Lovely post again, PomPom. You spend lots of time with your family and that's way more important than tea pots that are dusty. With all my collections Ican't possibly keep things dust free so we only have company in the evenings. Lamplight is so good at hiding dust.

So nice to hear about what you've been up too.
Yes, grandchildren seem to grow so much faster than our kids. My YOUNGEST is 12 already.

Love the photo of you and your grand!
Your flowers look lovely in your garden even if you did leave some weeds behind. 😉
From August on my flowers start to take hold and flourish, especially in the month of September. Guess they like the cooler weather.

Nice to see you back ♡

Hi! Loved reading this post. So many things to comment on if I could only remember them by the time I get done reading it! LOL I will be 79 in November. Could that be my excuse. Enjoy that pink cake when it is your birthday! Talented daughter to be able to figure things out and do them. Agree grands and great grands do grow up too quickly! Nancy

Lovely to see your pictures, I will be 60 soon after you but am not worried, I like the idea that we are 'growing old gracefully' You do get through so much reading, I must try harder. I like housework but only have a very small house to worry about. I have started to let things go a bit so am glad you do too - I feel better now :) we have a hole on our kitchen lino and I have grown so used to it, it seems it's not there! It's lovely that you prioritise time to reflect and grow spiritually - you are a good faith driver and have a strong compass, thank you. x

Our cat likes to play in bathrooms too. Something about the sound of water he loves. I love the photo of you in your classroom. Good times. Good memories. Good thoughts. ♥

I too am rethinking electronics. I find I am sitting too much which is aggravating my arthritis and I am not getting much accomplished which is jsut aggravating ME! I read a blog about a couple who live in the past -- right now in the 40's and sometimes I think they have the right idea -- in some regards. I believe technology is great but it can become a bad thing too and that is about where I am now. Maybe it is my age, I just don't want to spend precious time surfing the internet!

Pom Pom you write the SWEETEST posts!! It sure looks like you have spent hours in the garden...your flowers are always pretty! You have the sweetest nicest most talented family and I think most of it came from you. You are such a great mama, and grandma, and friend. Thank you!

Happy Summer goings on! Life is easy to be sure! I loved your comment to me and had to read it to my hubby about summer continuing to the first snow. Love it! I am loving retirement. Such a carefree way to feel. :) Kit

Great post, Karen! I know what you mean about social media taking so much of our time. I need to be more disciplined in that area or I'll waste the day away looking at what other people are doing and not doing much myself! I'm so glad Weight Watchers is working so well for you! Congrats! And it sounds like you're being so careful to do high value things with your time, in general. You're very inspiring, my friend! Plus, you know how to enjoy beauty and have fun! Happy Thursday!

Sounds like your summer is hopping along. I like the sound of the WW Freestyle program. You are looking good :) I do think teaching made me chubby.
I also like having a morning routine. It can't be too rigid, or it becomes unpleasant and I quit. But I like a slower morning with reading and nibbling breakfast.
Kelli is clever! Those cushions look great!

I don't think I have ever seen your Timothy other than snoozing all snuggled up. Such beautiful posies abound in your garden.

Always lovely to read one of your busy, happy posts, Pompom. You are a cheerful soul, and I admire your devotions. Mine are much more haphazard.

I'm coming up behind you on the age front - 59 this year! But then, it's just a number, really. You seem to be very young at heart, so just think of it like that.

Isn't Timmy a sweetheart?! Running off with the drain cover! Ha! Our four are strange little beasts with their foibles too!

I don't know why, but I am now commenting with my name - I can't change it! But this is Fat Dormouse xx

Good to know that Timothy can stand up! lol!
You are such a kindred spirit. From your housekeeping skills to your baggy eyelids. I have to assume a surprised expression to see past mine!
I'll be 62 in November. Don't worry, it's okay to hit the 60's! :)
Your classroom was such a wonderful and whimsical place. Those kids will always remember you.
I always admire people, like your Kelli, who have sewing skills.
I'm trying to gain some discipline in Bible reading, scripture memorization and reading a good devotional (Ann's One Thousand Gifts devotional at the moment.) Yes, He must become greater! :)
Worked a bit on the notes for my YA novel yesterday. Sometimes it's good when the internet goes south!
Hugs to you, friend! :)

So nice to read your update. You may have noticed, I am barely bloggingvthis summer. So much living to do! Love your classroom! İ am getting mine ready for this year but other folks have materials stored in the room I am moving to so I am in a holding pattern. Thank you for sharing glimpses of your life, Pom!

Zinnias are such cheery flowers. I love them. Mine are just now "hitting a lick" in the garden too. Grandkids DO grow up so fast. I think they grow up faster than our own children did. I've been outside "doing" lots of things lately too and have neglected my blog, but today, I posted a little something.
Happy Summer! You're cute!

Enjoyed reading your post. Lovely flowers!
Timothy looks smart and enjoys it's time alone with the shower!
Nice to hear about Kill keeping herself engaged all the time!
Me too planning to buy a sewing machine and start stitching:)

Teaching suited us both so well, but aren't we glad to be retired. I do enjoy reading how spent time on your inner self; I' am not disciplined enough. We should have a Free Style lunch. Works for me, too.
