Cake, Kids, and Stitches

The applesauce cake tasted like a cross between pumpkin pie and banana bread.  Everyone liked it.  No, it didn't come out of the Bundt pan perfectly.

Our basement is a little scruffy.  A former owner of this home made it workable enough, but somehow it's still very basement-y.  Anyway, James and Noah have a lot of fun messing around down there.  It's a good way to keep Noah safe. He is on the move!  Notice Tim is joining the fun.

Red hollyhocks are pretty miraculous, right?
I posted this on Instagram so I'm sorry if you've already seen it.  I knit patches for my jeans.  I really like the cut of this brand of jeans, but I don't like the "cool" holes in the knees.  I don't think the designers had grannies in mind.
I was looking at old photos and I found this one of a tree I knit many Julys ago.  I guess I like stitching in July.

The zucchinis and yellow squash are appearing.  I think they are going to outdo themselves.  I guess we had better start getting hungry for grilled squash.

I'm going to Washington later this week.  I'm looking forward to seeing all my sibs and my lovely mother!  I'll see my auntie as well!  Yay!
I shall also see the water.  Another YAY!
God be with you. Thank you for stopping by.  You are kind.

I can never get a bundt cake out of the pan all in one piece. I always had my daughter do it for me. The red hollyhocks are gorgeous. Would you consider saving me some seed from them? Have a good trip!

I have no idea why, but my squash plants are doing terrible this year. I bought a pack of 6 plants from the hardware store. 4 have gradually died, and the remaining two haven't "vined out" like they should. Kinda sad. So I will have no squashes this year! Making up for it with cucumbers :)
Have a lovely time away. I think your basement is perfect for relaxing kid time. And your jean patches are adorable!!

I am having blogger woes. Maybe it is google! Anyway I can view my original blog (Phamily Blog) and comment but I can not post or anything else. Now I am trying to set up a second blog (My Tata's Cottage) but all the comments go to my e mail. There isn't much help I can find with google or blogger. But I wanted to come over and visit. I love those red holly hocks. Your post is always happy and I love the photos especially the kiddos. Thank you for sharing. have a wonderful weekend. HUGS

have a wonderful time with your family. Hollyhocks look beautiful. Your basement looks like a great place for kids. I would paint the walls with storeybook themes (jack and the beanstalk, hansel and gretel etc) - did this on a bedroom once and it made a windowless wall look so magical. x

Have fun in Washington with all your loved ones!
I just ordered a fermentation kit so I can make fermented veggies, etc. It's one more hobby, lol.
Lovely knitting and a very ingenious way to fill those holey jeans!

The patches are a super idea! I absolutely love it. I'm not a Jeans wearer anyway but I loathe ripped jeans so I'd probably want to do something similar if I were as proficient as you are. You are very lucky with your house sizes in the US. Ours are much smaller.
