Pause in Advent

Floss graciously hosts A Pause in Advent.  Pop on over to read participants' thoughts or join in!  Just leave a comment/request for Floss and I'm sure her hospitable heart will respond and include you in the list of Pause bloggers.
I begin this Advent season with attention to Jesus the Light.  He is lovely and He is God.
I'm reading The Incomparable Christ by J. Oswald Sanders.  Leslie from Wayside Wanderer suggested this book.  Thank you, Leslie.
I'd like to look at Jesus closer, lean in and examine more of Him.
I'm a wee bit tired and a little unwell.  I have a sore throat.  Drat.
When I don't feel "tip top" I KNOW that rest and warmth are the best medicine.
When my soul is mulling ideas and plans around the soup pot of decisions, I know that rest in the Word of God and warmth under the covering of prayer is definitely the best remedy.
So as I pause, I'm going to try to avoid over-thinking and over-planning this holiday season.  I like knowing that this is December 1st and there are many days of discovery ahead, days to meet the Savior, knee-to-knee, and moments to bow before Him.  He is ever-gracious, allowing us to buzz around taking care of our temporary affairs and tending to cultural expectations and interests. We are silly and foolish, but AWE and WONDER wait.  Oh, to see the Light and huddle in the stable where real is REAL and Heaven extends such a mysterious invitation.
I was looking at knitted Nativity scenes on Flickr (my friend Lynn is knitting one, too!) and in a lot of the photos there were many, many, many sheep.  Some knitters made a big population of sheep to go with their holy families.  I like thinking about us, a bunch of fuzzy sheep, crowding in, trying to get as close as we can to the Savior.

I'd be quite happy to be one of those sheep all snuggled up in that warm cosy stable......hope you feel much better soon.

This is a good time of year to snuggle under a quilt, read and ponder. And knit sheep! I love that idea so much. I hope you feel better soon, dear Pom.

Hope you sleep well and awake refreshed. I put my tree up and the fairy lights came on and I thought about how we see light as a source of comfort - and then of the Bible telling of the moment when God made the world and said 'let there be light' - this Advent I will focus on the meaning of those words. I hope you get better soon, at least you will be fighting fit on the big day. I have just found A Pause for Advent and I plan on pausing once per day and photographing it and putting on my blog as an Advent calendar. Here goes... Take care. x

I've had the same kind of crud. Hope you get much rest!
You always make me desire more closeness with my Shepherd.
It's a learning journey to cease the frantic scurrying and sit quietly with Him. :)

Beautiful, beautiful post, Pom. Your thoughts and mine are in sync :) Yes, to cluster close to the manger. Yes to silent, quiet recovery. Yes to many days of pondering as Mary did.

Yes, I do like that image of us sheep all crowding around, though most of the time we don't seem to be smart enough, and have to be pulled in by the Shepherd's hook and staff or whatever his tools are. His love. And we hear His voice....
Thank you, Pom Pom.

Thank you Pom Pom for coming by and for your lovely comments. It has been humbling to hear of how the city has reacted to this tragedy.

I've also loved your Pause and the thought of us as fuzzy sheep crowning to the manger - that is a lovely image. I am so looking forward to joining in with this reflection this year.

I always enjoy your thoughts and I enjoy your Advent thoughts just as much.
I am so sorry that you have a sore throat. You have been so busy. I hope you can stay well and drink lots of hot tea. With honey. My favorite when it is cold.

I hope you enjoy the book. I always get a little nervous worrying that folks might not like my book recommendations. I think it would make a good Lent devotional, too. We are studying Matthew all this year in my bible study so it is a really good supplement to go with it. Hope you are feeling better!

I am printing this out for my fridge door. Now! Get well, PP. Rest is indeed the key. I am hurrying, hurrying tonight through my jobs to be abed much earlier than usual!

Oh yes, we love our sheep because we are so like them, I think. I'll be crowding in to see Him too. I love your thoughts.
