"O timeless and eternal Spirit, liberate us from the prison house of selfish desire, of worldly standards and of petty ambition into the spacious heaven of Thy love. May the peace of the eternal Father brood over us; may love of the eternal Son surround us; may the strength of the eternal Spirit dwell within us." Anon.
(from A Diary of Prayer by Elizabeth Goudge)
The greens in the garden nourish my eyes!
The lily girls wear a color beyond compare.
A ragged little patchwork heart hangs on the door peg.
Nature's bountiful offerings are prettier than cut gems, aren't they?
Isn't this a lovely color? My staple food: the ruby red grapefruit.
Don't you feel peace, love, and strength coming your way when you look around you?
I like the prayer at the top very much because of the two-word combinations, one adjective with each noun:
prison house
selfish desire
worldly standards
petty ambition
spacious heaven
Prayers are poems.
"Today I live in the quiet, joyous expectation of good." ~ Ernest Holmes
Now, I shall pick up my knitting. Thank you for dropping by!

Elisabeth Goudge is one of my favorites. She prays for all of the things I would wish to be free of.
Lovely,
Everything looks so pretty and green. Now that my house is clean, I can pick up my hook to work on my rug. Mondays are sometimes a magical day. Have a lovely week my dear Pom Pom.
How lovely your garden looks, so fresh and gren.
Dear EG, she always has the right turn of phrase, doesnt she?

I love that photo of your various fences and greenery. I could poke around there for a long time breathing out prayers of various sorts. Happy knitting!
LOVE the 3rd and 4th photos. just a plethora of green growth!
Grapefriuts are delicious! I've known some people that sprinkle salt on them, I eat mine without salt. I'm really enjoying this summer by the pool and taking naps whenever I feel like it. Isn't it great to have the summer off? =D Have a great day Pom Pom!
Oh you reminded me how delicious a grapefruit is first thing in the morning and now I will have to buy some! It's raining here, nice slow big drops and my garden smells lovely. I haven't prayed verbally for some time now, I just sit and send my thoughts to the Creator. My perception of my faith is changing. Enjoy your knitting. Bettyx
You forgot eternal Father, eternal Son and eternal Spirit on your adjective/noun list. :) Beautiful poem/prayer. And I miss you Too! I'm REALLY trying to find time to be back. REALLY!!
Blessings, Debbie
I agree I love the poem, and yes, it nourishes my soul! God's wonderful colors in nature, nothing compares.
the noun and adjectives do make powerful statements...
your toadstools are happy on your sidebar and make me smile!!

Just what I needed for today. Looks like the rain greened up your garden, too.
Elizabeth Goudge and Pom Pom; two of my favorite thinkers!
I see you've been redecorating your blog! I like it very much. The two fairies in your header are very pretty!
I love all of the photos. I have some lily girls I need to capture on film while they're blooming. Then I need to transplant them!
I'm having a day off, sitting by my bedroom window at my art desk, listening to the birds chirp outside as a scented breeze wafts through the window. The woods and pasture behind our house are very green and inviting. Ahhh...
Thanks so much for all of these peaceful thoughts. They are much needed in this sometimes noisy and chaotic world. You're a gem, my friend!

I love looking at your summery world! And I adore the picture of the garden looking through the little gate. Such happy summer pleasures for me while I am waiting for the magical world of spring to arrive x x
Ahh, Pom Pom. It's always nice to meet someone who appreciates Elizabeth Goudge. I love her writing. She has such insight into the human character and real compassion and understanding. What a treat to read a Goudge!
The cupcake was delicious Pom Pom and then my son and I had some frozen yogurt, we went downtown, it's very nice at nights, we also stopped by Barnes & Nobles, he is an avid reader so we spent 2 hours there, it was better than being at home watching T.V. =)
I have not seen my kid's list yet, but I'm thrilled that I'll be working with PK this fall. =D

What an amazing explosion of green and colors in your garden....truly nourishing in every way. Hey...so sorry I have not been commenting on your blog. You have been so sweet to stop by mine. I just posted a new knitted owl...you'll want to see. I am not quite used to the new Blogger and all the new features. I have been posting most of my pictures on Instagram. Do you have an account with this wonderful app. I will try to do better. Enjoy a blessed week dear friend. Aura
