Pause in Advent

"Make us, we beseech thee, O Lord our God, in watchfulness and eagerness to look for the coming of Christ Thy son our Lord; that when He shall come and knock, He may not find us sleeping in our sins, but watching and exulting in his praises."
                                               ~ Gelasian Sacramentary

Much of the time I try to "think" my way into a mindset of faith.  I tell myself, "Your mind has wandered away and you've forgotten who you are and who you aren't."
It is as if my awareness of Jesus and my journey are my own doing.  I know this is not true.

This morning as I pause.  I'm going to light a candle and wait.
I'm joining Floss for A Pause in Advent.  Click over there if you would like to read the collective pauses.

It's good to stop and think and absorb, isn't it? I can't believe it's the second Sunday in Advent already, it seems like we just had the first! xxx

It's good just to stop and pause sometimes.

I like the quote from the Gelasian Sacramentary (must look that up). I also love seeing the faces of your loved ones doused in candlelight.

Peaceful Advent.

Thank you for your lovely post, it's already the 2nd Advent Sunday and I'm not into the merriment of the season yet..
Have a good week x

I think the most important thing is knowing that we can come to God whatever our mindset. We don't have to work ourselves into a 'holy' state - just come to him regularly, even if we don't feel like it. And often I DON'T feel like it with sick children and lots to organise before Christmas. It's just a case of being there in prayer out of habit, even if I don't feel like it at first. Does that make any sense?

I hope you have had a blessed day. It is always nice to pause and remember whose we are.
Very nice photos today.

You asked what I do with the eggs I get from my chickens? I give them away of course. :)
I keep my marrieds in eggs. They don't have to buy them and I always figure that if I give them eggs then of course they have something to eat in the house.

Right now the hens have lost all of their feathers so they don't lay eggs. I have to buy eggs and there is just so much difference.

Then of course when the little kids come over we always go out and gather eggs. It is very nice.
I hope you have a very nice week next week.
Blessings to you, dear Pom Pom

I've tried to get myself in the right mindset, too, but it doesn't always work. And fact it usually doesn't! You're right--sometimes it's best to light a candle and wait.

Yes, it is in the pausing and the waiting that Christ comes...Isaiah 26:3; 30:15 so wonderfully captures it! Thank you for sharing your pause with us.

Pausing is something I hadn't done enough of in the past - I had a lovely pause this Sunday. We can't hear God if we don't stop to listen! When we spend time just 'being' He can direct us.

Sometimes I just sits and thinks...and sometimes I just sits.

The soul in its littleness looks on God in his greatness, and loves Him.
God, in his greatness, looks on the soul in its littleness, and loves it.

May God grant you wonders and surprises in your silent waiting.
