I did get the less than beautiful fake tree put up today but I shall decorate it tomorrow. Do you like the garland below with a cat like Timothy bringing figgy pudding?
I came upon some Advent books and Christmas books in a box and this one has some lovely prose about the sacred and holy season.
I've decided to go a little slow with the festooning of the house. I don't have to hurry which is nice. I had dinner with a friend this evening. She is about the age of our girls and she said that she is tired now that she is in her forties. 😉 She said that there are things that she has to do that she just doesn't want to do because she's tired. Hmmmmmmm. I think she is tired because she has so much to do and she doesn't have the luxury of slowing down. She's a mom and a wife and she is homeschooling. She is involved at her church and helps with other groups. Every stage of life has its challenges. I don't have TOO much to do, so I can poke along without feeling rushed. I'm going to remember to be thankful for that.
I'm sleepy and ready to crawl into our cozy bed. I'm already looking forward to my morning cup of coffee ☕️.
I hope you had a happy December 2nd. Did you do one or two fun things? Did you eat any fudge? When I was at a big store today, I went down the seasonal treat aisle and none of it looked tempting or special enough to buy. I might go to another big store tomorrow and look for some special treats there. Shortbread in the shapes of Christmas? Mince pies? Special chocolate? We'll see.
Before I head to bed I'm going to say a little prayer for you.
Dear God,
Please may we think about lasting love, growing relationships, tender kindnesses. Please open our hearts so we will give freely and receive humbly. Please help us cast off the burden of self centeredness. Give us fresh thoughts that are astonished by ancient TRUTHS. Thank you❤️ Amen.

A lovely prayer, Pom Pom, thank you.
Thank you so much for your prayer, Pom Pom. I love that word, festooning. I have not done much festooning yet but all the bins are down and within reach so I'll go slowly but surely. I breathed a sigh of relief in being old and retired and just the two of us after reading about that dear 40 year old mom!! God bless you dearly!
Thank you for the lovely prayer.
All the best Jan
A wonderful little prayer and I thank you. :)
Pom Pom, I have that exact same folk song book -- I just went to the piano and took it down from the stack and found the identical page you showed us. Good Christian Men, Rejoice! indeed.
This had been my grandma's book, and may have been the only one on her piano all the years that I used to visit her, when my sisters and I would sit at the piano and plink away, never learning to really play. So I recognized the typeface and style of illustration immediately.
I have done exactly zero decorating. In the old days, our family used to wait until after our son's birthday in early December, before we would even think about Christmas. That would be hard to do these days, I think. But that son is coming to see me just a little bit after his birthday, so maybe he and I can decorate together!

That's a lovely prayer. Today I went out with my 2 daughters and had a lovely few hours browsing and having fun. Normally we would visit more shops but granny here gets tired. We didn't eat any fudge. I really should make some. It's so easy.
I like the cat/figgy pudding garland. I can imagine how cute it will look.
One of my daughter's-in-law (also in her 40's) has recently been a little burnt out. She's a teacher and has also had to take time off to recharge (not easy with an energetic 4yr old!). It's easy to think we can manage everything, all at once, all the time but it catches up with some of us, resulting in these meltdowns. I'm of the same mindset as you about Xmas decorating. Youngest Grandbaby coming on Friday to help! Might have a spoonful of enthusiasm by then!!lovely little prayer, thank you.
