Yes, January

This morning (very early) I took this book down from one of my book spots.  Aw!  Mitford.  I had forgotten how lovely the stories are.

Christie, James, and Noah made a snowman (yes, we had a lot of snow).  April gave them the snowman kit so it was a very photogenic snowman.  He's melted now (all in a heap!)

It's bright here, but it's cold and iceberg-y.  I don't like the piles of grey/white that are leftover after a fairly sizable snow.  I want to think about warm things like this summer fruit.

I think it's very wise to buy a lot of spring flowers in January.  I think it might be even better than buying bedding plants in May.  I need flowers now.

I wish our grocery store was a big fresh market.  It isn't really all that big, the produce section.  Remember the days before fruit stickers?  Wasn't that the BEST?

Last, a few sheep from my brother's back yard.  They aren't their sheep, but they were there one summer.  The brown one is so lovely and I'd like to have some of her wool.

Now I shall trundle off to the grocery store to buy salad makings.  Those photos made me hungry for crunchy foods.
Thank you for stopping in to visit.  I love it when you do.

(Oh!  Thirty-eight years ago today, I became a mama.  Our Brad.  I was such a rookie mommy, but God's grace arrived and we muddled through.  I'm so thankful.)

I think there is a lot of muddling through with your first baby, but it's amazing how quickly you 'learn the ropes'. I remember the days of produce with no stickers....just....it was such a long time ago. Such a fabulous snowman. How sad he melted so quickly. Have a lovely week, dear Pom Pom...keep warm.

I agree that fresh flowers are necessary in January ( and other months as well).
Happy Birthday to Brad and congratulations to you for surviving 38 years of motherhood!!!
Your snowman does look very photogenic. Too bad he melted so quickly.

The snowman looks classy. Too bad it melted so soon.
I agree spring flowers in winter is very needed.
Those fruit stickers drive me crazy too. Sometimes I forget to remove the sticker before washing the fruits and then it's harder to remove.

Enjoy the new week.
Hugs, Julia

It's always fun to come here and enjoy all the colorful things you share with us. Have you made anything from the Jan Karon cookbook? It's one I enjoy leafing through every now and then but I've not used any of the recipes yet. I have had it for years and have yet to make anything from it.

Happy Birthday to Brad and to you! Yes, those flowers are just lovely. So is the fruit. I would love to have sheep in my backyard too.
I just love looking at all of the goodness on your blog.

It's so sad that your snowman melted so quickly. I like them to last a while after all the work to build them! Happy birthday to your Brad! Sometimes I look back on that first baby and wondered how he survived! But by the time the second one came we were old pros, right? Flowers at this time of year are so lovely and cheerful Her's to a good week!

We have no snow and I don't miss it but I do miss seeing the occasional snowman! And I love your tulips!

we aren't having much of a winter, either, but it is gray and dismal enough right now to make me want those flowers and that fruit as well. Happy Birthday to baby boy!

Happy Birthday to Brad.
Loved seeing your mix of pictures.

We bought some raspberries today, they are from Spain … looking forward to enjoying some with double (heavy) cream later.

All the best Jan

Mitford! I just love those books. Your snowman is lovely! It is snowing here right now. Just lightly. Your tulips look great. I will enjoy yours since I cannot have fresh flowers (allergies) inside. So pretty! Have the best day! Kit

"Muddling through" is a good phrase to describe parenting, to me now. Sigh.
My farming brother had a dark brown ram and it produced some beautiful lambs. I wish I'd been a spinner back then!
I have that cookbook too, and ought to look at it. I don't cook much! Did you know there's a Facebook group called Mitford Book Club? It was started by a childhood friend of mine called Mary Jo Tate. She's wonderful. They focus only on reading, enjoying, and discussing the books - no side drama of any sort. I'm not rereading the books with them, but for those who love Mitford, it would be a fabulous group. I think they're reading "Shepherds Abiding" right now.

I think we all muddle through with the first one, bless them. That's one fine snowman stood proud there. Thankfully we haven't had any snow here in the UK. Take care, Cathy x

I like the looks of the Mitford cookbook. I'm trying to think up some good hotdishes (casseroles) for Micah to make. She's getting frustrated trying to come up with dinners her kids will eat. :) It should be fun making some lists for her!

Many happy returns to Brad, I hope you will have a family get together (and cake!) I like your brown sheep too, shame we can't keep them as pets as he's stroke-able (if there is such a word!)

Hello dear Pom Pom. Happiest of birthdays to your son. Today is our second born son's 38th birthday. Oh how I muddled and fuddled motherhood. Happy to see he made it to adulthood! Flowers in January are a good idea.

Oh, I am always last and lagging behind! Hope Brad had a Happy Birthday. Bet you were the best mom!! My sister, Shelby got me started on the Mitford Series books and I fell in love with Jan Karon and "Mitford". I would love to live there. I don't have that Mitford Cookbook but Shelby and I are always searching thrift stores for her books...I need a complete set, like Shelby has. :) Those fruit stickers drive me crazy! I mean, you pull that little sticker off and wash your apple, then you've got to walk all the way to the trash can just because of that little sticker. :)
