Susan Branch Visits Denver

Today Susan Branch was at The Tattered Cover in downtown Denver.  I tootled down there in my Subaru and even though I pulled in early, I was very happy that I found a seat.  I don't think the employees at the bookstore realized what a big deal Susan Branch is!  They seemed surprised at the enthusiasm.  She was lovely and gracious.  She read from A Fine Romance and she talked a little and then she answered questions.  I did not stay and wait in the sign line because I didn't bring my books.
I wanted to take a photo of myself with her but that would have involved waiting a long time in the line, so I did not.  I was just pleased to hear her talk and it was apparent that she is very much the person her blog and her books convey.  Isn't that nice?
The books are so personal and her work is so careful.  I'm really happy that I went.  I usually don't do that sort of thing because I avoid driving in the city.
There were no surprises and that's encouraging.  She's true and she's probably designated in her mind what is appropriate to share in public (even though she is very open and very real).  I'm thankful for her art and her story.  I love the visual joy that exudes from the pages of her cookbooks.  I am glad she felt compelled to write memoirs.  I think she has made a lovely contribution to women who love their homes and take the homemaker calling very seriously.  There really isn't anyone else writing books like Susan's.

After you mentioned in a previous post that she was coming to Denver, I watched some YouTube videos of her, and she seems to be a very good-hearted and unpretentious person. You are right, she is a good example and an encouragement to homemakers! I'm so glad you got to be present for her talk.

Pleased for you! I would like to hear her speak too. I think when she signs books she writes quite a bit on them and doodles so that must slow things down! Glad that she comes across as genuine and true. Brave to drive there, I have similar issues (in fact am doing trips once a week to places I don't know so I can get my confidence up a bit). SB book is due out in the UK 1st June and mine is on order, can't wait! Betty x

How nice that you had the opportunity to see and hear her speak! I have all three of her trilogy and have enjoyed getting to know her through them. Her tour didn't take her anywhere near me so it's nice to hear a report from someone who has.

I am so glad you got to see Susan Branch! I've been trying to remember what it was my daughter Lynn loved about Susan Branch...seem like it was a monthly article in a magazine...something about herbs or nature??? Anyway I remember Lynn loving Susan Branch. Miss Pom Pom you have a great blog!!

Your bravery ( in driving in the city) was well rewarded. I'm glad SB is as genuine as she seems to be.

I've got one of her cookbooks, and I love it. How exciting that you got to meet her in person! Braving the city driving is quite a feat! I don't care for it much myself. I'm curious about her new book now that you mention it, I will have to look it up on Amazon. Have a blessed day my friend :)

Oh happy day -- seeing Susan Branch! I do appreciate that she is so encouraging of the homemaker. My daughters all love her and her books and calendars, and it makes me happy that someone is showing them the importance (and joy) of home keeping. Thanks for sharing your day with us!

Yes! I agree about Susan. I'm glad you went. It's fun to read about your adventure to see her. I think I will look back to find that she has been a very big inspiration to me in my own creative journey. You know, she kind of reminds me of Beatrix Potter in one of those photos.

I'm so happy to hear that she is the same in person! That's not always true of writers; some are very gregarious on the page but are more withdrawn in person (which is fine), but glad you enjoyed it so much. I also just adore the feeling she exudes of joy and peace both in her books and on her blog. She encourages us all to love and cherish HOME.
