"I believe in an open mind, but not so open that our brains fall out." ~ Arthur Hays Sulzberger
Pretty soon we'll roll into 2016. Is that exciting? I am thinking about and creating a spiritual and personal Rule of Life. I'm considering my work and how it matches my biggest desire, to walk closer with Jesus and to love Him more. I have some new books that are shedding light on how a Rule of Life works and I'm having fun exploring what it looks like. I think I'm going to make a mind map because my brain likes to see how things play out on paper.Daily disciplines that support my biggest desire are a big part of the planning. I'll keep you posted as I go along. It isn't like a set of goals that might be associated with what the world identifies as "success". That's a bunch of hooey and I don't care at all about THAT. It's an inner life thing, not exterior based. Make sense?
We go to bed early on New Year's Eve. I have never really cared for NYE. There have been years when I bought a bunch of snacks in order to celebrate and had a lot left over because we aren't hungry after dinner. We are going to eat ordinary plain foods in the weeks to come. I think cheese played an unnecessary leading role in our holiday merry making! Ha!
Our Brad was born in January so I do like the first month. We became parents in January and being a mother is such a lovely career. I don't like freezing though and it's been very cold. It's icy on the sidewalks and it makes me mad that some people do not bother to shovel their areas. Grrrrrrr.
Are you going to buy tulips or other flowers in January? I always say I will but then I listen to the frugal voice and I just buy plants to eat.
God be with you as you transition into 2016.

happy 2016 to you. :)
Wishing you blessings and all good things for 2016, I have been reading Susan Branch today on my break at work - she inspires, I felt like painting and writing her a letter! I was excited to read she is visiting the UK in 2016 and I have yet to read any of her books - have only read her blog! Well, I like the idea of your plans for focus and think I need a plan too - time to start thinking about my year ahead plans. Thank you for being a good blogger, friendly chit chatter and one who inspires and motivates - you have a gift for writing and making others open up and want to write too - just look at your follower comments and the evidence is there! Love to you - Betty x
On the brink of another new year. Like you we go to sleep early and then just roll into the New Year quietly watching the Rose Parade. We ate way too many out of the ordinary foods and we will get back to less extravagant foods to help with some de-fluffing. Both our sons were born in January and our new daughter in law has a January birthday, too.
A very Happy New Year to you and yours!
Wishing you success with focusing your desire to grow closer to Jesus.
All the Best for the New year.
Hugs,
JB
You are so cute, just buying plants to eat. :) It has been cold hasn't it? I think it is good to start the New Year in a nice way. I will look forward to learning from you and what it is you find out.
It is all good.
A personal and spiritual rule of life sounds like a good idea. I think you will be very thorough and dedicated to the task.
We don't do anything much for NYE either and this year will be especially quiet as I get over whatever has been the problem lately.
Blessed New Year to you and your family.
Happy new year dear Karen. My husband and I are not the type of people who celebrates NYE. But we stay up and watch the fireworks on TV then we go to bed. Not much happening.
All the best in the coming new year. Stay warm and cosy.
Hugs,
Aida
A rule of life sounds like a great idea! We also will stay home on New Year's though we usually stay up to see the New Year in as we are late night people anyway. Praying for God's best for you in 2016!
Happy New Year! Here's to a good 2016! xx
"I believe in an open mind, but not so open that our brains fall out." I love this quote!! Because it's so true.
Tonight we go to some friends who have a deer hunt guiding business and we were part of their hunting grounds. They are having a big supper for their clients/friends. All will bring something to contribute to the beef and shrimp. I'm making a Mexican Corn Casserole.
I am not a goals person. I admit that I fly by the seat of my pants most of the time which has its pluses and minuses. I wish you the best as you set your mind upon that relationship with Jesus. Me too.
I became a first-time mom in January too!
Happy, blessed, joyous 2016!
Sounds like a great idea for the New Year and one we all should do. : )
Happy New Year. May 2016 be the best yet.
Share with us how you plan out your goal of Godly icing. Books? Friends and family will be in the mix, I know, even if you cut down on cheese. We go to bed early, too, as NYE is not a big thing with us either. See you in January...tomorrow!
I see we're on the same page concerning life in general! I'm looking forward to hearing more about your Rule of Life. The whole "worldly success" thing is so meaningless. I'll be early to bed, too. I've never seen what all the fuss was about on New Year's Eve. Anyway, I work tomorrow! Blessings on your new year as you continue to pursue the Way, the Truth and the Life. XXOO
I hadn't thought once about buying tulips in January, until reading your post, that is. Now that you've put that bug in my ear, I will gravitate toward Trader Joe's just for that purpose! Happy New Year!
I look forward to following your journey as you continue to grow. I love reading your blog for trhe joy that shines out. God bless your 2016, dear Pompom.
Love the pic of 'TuTu Girl'! Happy New Year to You and Yours, my friend. I think all that resolution nonsense is a load of phooey too. Good Luck with your inner spirit - it's such a lovely one. Thanks for being here, Pom.xxx
I think I know some people with *extremely* open minds! A Rule of Life sounds interesting; I have two things I strive to do on a daily basis...to further the Gospel somehow, someway and do something to make my life better/easier. One of the books I'm reading is Crash the Chatterbox...good book too.
Last night I watch Rogue Nation...luv the stunts! then was in bed by 9:30 which is late for me. Earlier today, I potted some paperwhites...first time in a long time but they'll be wonderfully enjoyed.
Happy New Year, Karen, to you and yours.
happy new years! and I love the quote at the top of the post, too funny!! I love January and the silence it brings :)
Happy New Year, dear Pom Pom!! I always love popping by to read your thoughts. I'm too frugal to buy flowers either, but I am enjoying a bright red geranium blooming in my windowsill.
Looking forward to your posts on your rules for life! The books you are reading look good! Several I am familiar with....I am "working hard" to make January a restful month and have ordered more books from the library :) and made some resting goals. :)
Pom, I'm very interested in hearing about your Rule of Life study, and about making a mind map. Right now, my life feels quite meaningful, but too busy and very frazzled. I don't think I'm doing anything in an orderly manner. I'm just grinding away from day to day. I told Adam I'm living in the present, only thinking about 30 minutes ahead. So I'd love to have an inkling from somebody who is a bit more ordered to remind me of how life will be again :) Sounds quite interesting.
