Waiting for the Blizzard

It's cold outside but still no snow.  Blizzard warnings are flashing on my phone, but still no snow.

We have three more days of school and then we'll all be hunkering down.  Sweeping and mopping, dusting and arranging, and making fruit cake.  I found Mrs. Walker's Fruit Cake on Allrecipes.com.  It calls for a lemon cake mix, lemon pudding mix, candied cherries and pineapple, pecans, and dried cranberries.  No weird ingredients.  I usually don't like fruit cake, but I've decided I don't need to LOVE every food that I eat and it's tradition (just as Mr. Banks says in Mary Poppins when he is singing about fox hunting).  Mags and Gretchen Joanna are making mince pies.  Do you have a good mince pie recipe to share with them?  If so, hop over to Mag's blog.

If it DOES indeed snow, Bill can use his birthday snow blower.  I could make a snow woman.  Hot chocolate would taste extra festive.  We might have a fire in the fireplace.
Are you still feeling the Christmas jazz?  Are you tired?  Do you still have lists that are demanding your check marks?
We've been reading A Christmas Carol in reading class.  It's hard reading for my struggling students, but we take breaks and watch it, too.  We're all pretty interested in Ebenezer Scrooge.
I hope you have a bright day today.  May your tea taste extra rich and leafy and may a cookie plate be within your reach.
JOY to the world!

Sounds cosy at your house..even if the snow hasn't quite fallen yet! We are not expecting snow..ever..really, but I love your snow pictures. Merry Christmas to you! P.S..I am also a fan of Mary Poppins.

Hi Carol! thank you for stopping by! I DO love Mary Poppins and I'd like to stay home from school and watch it today. It has started to snow now, but I fear it's too late for a snow day call. The students will be gazing out the window all day so I'm thankful that the plan for this afternoon is a trip to the computer lab! Happy holidays!

We have snow. A skiff. hardly a blizzard yet. Merry Christmas.

No snow here--we're going to have temps in the 60s today! Today is the boys' last day of school before Christmas break, and the next few days we'll be running around doing their Christmas shopping. I'm on the verge of being tired of it all, but I'll feel the spirit come Christmas Eve. Tell your reading students I say hi!

I do hope you get to have a blizzard and a snow day out of this. We have frost on the ground so that is about it for us, but it is beautiful.
My trees are really gold now.
I love Mary Poppins too and your fruit cake sounds wonderful. I have never eaten mince pie. Though I have always wondered about it. My friend that I have here who grew up in England makes them every year. Her family eats them so fast she never has any to share.
Have a lovely day. How fun to be reading Scrooge.

I am over here dreaming of a white Christmas, but it's not likely with our 65 degree temperatures. I did enjoy your snowy pictures today. There's something so cozy about being in the house preparing for Christmas as the snow is softly falling outside. I can do without the driving in it, however.
I smiled at your comment about a cookie plate being within our reach. Not a problem around here. In fact I had to wipe the cookie crumbs from my hands to type this comment.
Merry Christmas to you, dear Pom Pom.

Hi PomPom!
We had some snow last week, but now it's back to normal,we're not too used to it here.
I know it's a bit early to wish you and your family "Happy Holidays", but since I have returned to work after a 2nd nose surgery, I'm having crazy days and not much time for blogging :(
Have a wonderful Christmas!

What lovely snowy photos. It's unlikely that we shall have snow here, just more rain.
I'm on my last list now!

Well, it is so warm here that I've told my husband we should go lay out at the lake. Seeing your snow made me chilly though so maybe I should just look at pictures of blizzards to keep me cool. You also reminded me of a book I am reading right now, The Snow Child. It is modern fairytale about an older couple who builds a snow child during the first snow and strange things begin to happen! :)

We'll be getting some snow after you get yours. It's supposed to get very cold for us around Christmas Day. We'll have our fire burning! I'm still busy in my "workshop" with hammer, needle & thread, and sometimes the sewing machine. I love it. Still waiting on Baby. I went in yesterday, but it was a false alarm. Soon.

My afternoon coffee with perfectly strong and I had a cookie within reach too. Thank you for your good wishes.

I'm going to re-read Christmas Carol next week. But do you know the other Chrsitmas tales? Dickens wrote a whole series of them, mostly shorter than Carol, all with fine social messages. I think you'd love them. I miss reading Carol with classes. It is hard, but the message is so fine. I didn't take the coloured lights down from the book shleves here last year and they've been here evr since. Every time I look at them I think of the Ghost of Christmas Present soaring over the lighthouses and the moors and keeping Christmas in his heart all the year long! I think you do that too xx Oh the boys and I are so longing for decent snow this year!

Hi Ann!
The blizzard (really not so much a blizzard) came too late. We had a snowy day for sure, but now it's stopped. Merry Christmas to you, too!

Pom Pom said...

HI Frances!
It's true that the closer we get to Christmas, the less we love all the festivities (and the to do list!)
We have two more days of school and the natives are restless!
The readers have been reading Dickens long enough and they keep saying, "When are we going to get back to Chicken Boy and talk to Frances again?"
Enjoy that shopping! I'd make sure a nice fatty lunch was on the schedule, too!

Hi Kim!
No snow day. Boo! Oh well, we'll march toward the finish line and then I'll have two weeks off!
My granny made mince pie. I am not sure who ate it.
I've always been fascinated by fruit cake so this recipe seems edible. I don't like a lot of stuff in my cake!
I'm glad your trees are golden and that you have frost on the ground!

Hi Kim! I'm glad you have cookies at the ready!
It's COLD here! I wish you a warm and wonderful Christmas!

Hi Michela! I'm so sorry that you've been under the weather! I hope you are healing!
I wish you a wonderful Christmas, too!

Good for you, Elizabethd! I haven't even made any lists. Oh well.
Yes, the snow finally came. It's chilly!

Look at those snow pictures! My friend Jen in Wyoming is all snowed in right now. Is that the snow that should be coming your way too?

I know you're ready to snuggle down in your hobbit hole and fiddle around in you pantry. Me too :) Enjoy! That tea sounds good.

we have a skiff of snow on the ground and some absolutely frigid temps. i am hoping for a truly white christmas but not until wonderful daughter finds her way home for the holidays please. then we can all get cozy by our own fire . . .

Hi Leslie!
The Snow Child sounds interesting! I think I'm going to show my homeroom class The Snowman on Friday. I love the art in the book and the film is the same.

Pom Pom said...

You have a lot going on, Jody! Soon, the baby! So exciting!
I wish I was knitting, sewing, or writing cards. I AM writing cards for my students, and that is always a mad rush. I'll be spending Friday night with three grands so that will be a nice change of pace.

Go to playlist.com, Patty. You make your own playlists there and just copy and paste the html.

I hope you have snow, Mags! We've been listening to Carol on Audiobooks but I read it yesterday and they were much more engaged. We're just about finished!

I am SO ready to snuggle down in my hobbit hole, MK! I must scrub the floors and cupboards, drag the vacuum around, and take naps.

I'll pray for daughter's safe arrival, Libby Q!
We're hoping for a white Christmas!

We had 4.5 inches yesterday, and so grateful for it. Yea for you with only 2 days to go until the break!

You have the most amazing mugs. They deliver your drinks and a powerful message. Love them. We are hunkering down for our supposed first snow storm here in the midwest although we hit 45 degrees today. Time to get comfy and cozy. Never had mince pie but your mention makes me think that its time to try it.
Merry Christmas
Gabli

Yes, yay for snow, Nancy! We MIGHT get a white Christmas! Thank you for stopping by! I'm so excited for the holiday break!

I will do it, Melanie! I'll take a photo so you can see it! (BIG HUG!)

Hello dear Brad! I REALLY loved A Christmas Carol this year. My readers felt so good about completing it even though it was a struggle! They'll never go through a Christmas again without thinking about SCROOGE! I love you, sweet son.

Hi! We are cold but no new snow. :( Made my Magic Cookie Bars and except for needing to dip some pretzels tomorrow, I am all done. I am reading the Christmas Carol too. Love it! Looking forward to seeing my girls on the Eve and the big day. Have a very Merry Christmas! Kit
