Thankful Week

Happy THANKFUL week to all of you!  Sorry to top this post with tulips when tulip season is months and months away, but look at the color. And be cheered.
I'm thinking of bountiful blessings.  Apples.

Peppers and cucumbers.  There is SO MUCH food in America.

In the middle of feast preparation, we might want to slow down and make something loving, like chocolate chip cookies.  Aren't chocolate chip cookies a humble food and a unifying food?  Bill used to ask for them after dinner.  "Are you going to make chocolate chip cookies tonight?"  I would.
It is not Christmas  just yet and we can still pick up a leaf or two and press them into some of our favorite books.

Peek into an inspirational book or two and revel in the joys of autumn.  We were in Pennsylvania this past weekend and there were lovely leaves . . . on the ground.  Wood smoke smells like family, doesn't it?

The crown of the feast:  pumpkin pie.  I hope my crust turns out okay.  Sometimes I wrestle with it.
What is your favorite Thanksgiving dish (or holiday dish for my friends who do not celebrate Thanksgiving in their land)?
Soon we'll be hanging lights and clipping greens, gathering candles and baking cookies.  That will be FUN!
Soon Advent will begin and we can share our sense of awe and holiness around this life-giving season.
I am looking forward to celebrating with you.

Although we have our Thanksgiving in October up here-it's still a special time of year as we move towards Christmas. It's hard to say which is my favorite dish, but the whole kit and kaboodle with a turkey meal is so yum!

What book is that with the lovely writing all scrolly & pretty? LOVE IT!

Just sat down for my 1/2 hour of quiet and a cheese/tomato sandwich and was pleased to see your cheery post. favourite meal probably curry - the call centre I work in has doubled in size while I was off sick and I have loads of new people to get to know - whoever sits next to me, I have been asking what their favourite dinner is - they are so pleased to talk about food and write their recipes out willingly - it's fun - food is a great conversation point! Sometimes Tommy (14) makes cookies cookies at weekends, we eat them a lot for breakfast in a hurry. Happy thanksgiving/family time/sharing - Betty x

As always visiting with you is just like a cup of hot tea in front of a cozy fire. I just love it. I am always so glad you remind me of what is important. How nice you were in Pennsylvania.I bet it was just lovely. I love your leaves. I have a old phone book filled with my leaves. Did I ever tell you about the book my Mom found at Goodwill and on every page was a 4 leaf clover? I still have it.
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

A lovely post highlighting so many of the things we have to be thankful for.
I sure can relate to the chocolate chip cookies. They've always been a favorite of mine.
Wishing you and your family a very happy Thanksgiving.

There are no Christmas trees in the Forest of Toon. But lots and lots of leaves. They're getting a bit mulchy now, and are jealous that no-one will take them home for a Thanksgiving platter. I do however have a turkey joint that I'll cook on Thursday to think of all the thankful friends from far far away xx

I am so thankful for all the abundance we enjoy here in our country. Thank you for the reminder. We don't realize how much we have been blessed with. Thanksgiving is my favorite time of the year. I am thankful today for you, dear Pompom, and your friendship. Wishing you and your family a blessed Thanksgiving!! Vicki p.s. Probably my favorite Thanksgiving food is dressing & gravy, then pumpkin pie. Lots of family will be home for the Feast. Your post reminds me of a saying, "The world is so full of a number of things, I'm sure we should all be as happy as kings!" Yes, we should!

Happy Thanksgiving, Pom Pom.

"Ah, there's nothing like staying home for real comfort"...that's what HiHoney and I will be doing for TurkeyDay. Best wishes to You and Yours for a Blessed and Bountiful Day!

School has been extremely busy for me, Nancy. I am looking forward to five days off!

Yay! You'll have the turkey scent in your sweet house!
We won't put our tree up for a while. That red glowing tree is a tree of Christmas past!

Although I do love pumpkin pie, I think pecan pie is my favorite. Are those Susan Branch pages I see? I've recently found her blog and enjoy her lovely posts. I'm looking forward to Thanksgiving -- must start baking soon! We're having a nice big turkey breast for our small group here. Blessings on you over in your mountains!

we do have so very MUCH of everything in the U.S. ~ so MUCH to be thankful for~!
the leaves that you have ready to press into the books look rather large and oh so pretty.

i hope that your thanksgiving is filled with love, laughter and lots of tasty feasting treats.
i think the food that i am most looking forward to this year is my daughter's homemade cranberry sauce. she makes it just right; not to tart but not overly sweet.

Oh those Tulips are sooo beautiful !
I'm moving through a lilac flower stage at the moment and I am loving those lilac/purple ones.
I will have to make a pumpkin pie someday, I have never had one. They aren't very common here in Oz but they definately look yummy xo

Someday I'll make a pecan pie! Bonnie at City Home/Country Home gives a fantastic recipe for it today! I bought my pies because it is Bill's birthday and I didn't want to spend time elbow deep in flour instead on tending to him. I'll bake pies at Christmas, maybe!

Pom Pom said...

Thank you, sweet Michela! The sky is blue so blue and we're ready! I had to buy two turkeys because the big ones were all sold!

Pom Pom said...

Me, too! I'd love to take some art lessons as long as the instructor would let me blaze my own trail!
Happy Thanksgiving, sweet Janette!

Pom Pom said...

TRUE! That is a tasty treat, Leslie!
Happy Thanksgiving to YOU and yours!

Hi Libby Q!
You inspired me to make my own this year. I bought the cranberries and I'll stew them up and let you know how they turned out! Happy Thanksgiving, sweet friend!

Pumpkin pie is VERY tasty! WE don't have it often, Melanie.
Yes, the purple tulips are majestic! I like your lilac thoughts! I've always loved different shades of purple.

I love the filling of pumpkin pie, and to take a bite with some of the edge crust, but the bottom crust is usually at least a little soggy - is there an easy way to avoid this?

This morning I went out into the crisp mountain air, and it was full of smells of pines and firs, after a lot of rain yesterday, and yummy wood smoke!

Pom Pom said...

Confession: I bought a pumpkin pie. I didn't want to worry about baking because there are so many other fun things to do, Gretchen! I do not know how to avoid the minor pumpkin pie sogginess. I always use the Libby's recipe. Always.
I shall have cherry pie, warm with ice cream. I can't wait! Happy Thanksgiving, sweet kindred spirit of mine!

No instagram sorry Miss Pom Pom. There simply aren't enough hours in the day with all of my exams and assignments due. Maybe over Christmas I will look into it. I've seen lots of pics but don't know anything else about it. I have facebook for my blog so if you are on facebook look up my blog name there and you'll find me x

I'm a little embarrassed to admit that my favorite part of the Thanksgiving meal is the stuffing. How I love it! I miss the days when it was still okay to stuff the bird--that was the best!

Jack made two pumpkin pies last night, and they're gorgeous! Must get the Man to take pictures. Hope your Thanksgiving is glorious. Looking forward to another Advent season with you and our blogging friends!
