A Little Nature-y

The beetles feasted on our outdoor roses, but the grocery store roses are beetle free.  Yay!  Aren't they hearty?
Below we have dust, pollen, bugs, AND that lovely Target garland!  I think it's so gorgeous!
I have no finish for the weekend.  I have MANY yarn messes on the go.

Brad's been wood burning on spoons.  Aw!
 Tiger face
 Cutie bug face

Plum and I drove downtown to Fancy Tiger Crafts.  I had read a lot about this place on Instagram but it is a TREAT of a store.  They stock the loveliest dressmaker fabrics!

Have you heard of 100 Acts of Sewing?  Sonya Phillip is an artist who believes in dressing in your own "uniform" and she makes easy patterns.  I had to buy a few.  You can take one of her classes (I think it's called Handmade Wardrobe Chronicles) on Creative bug.  It is a very good class (the top #1 which is  pullover blouse).  As soon as I can get my sewing moved to the basement I shall begin my uniform sewing.

You know how you read all about a person or an idea and then you forget where you first discovered this "new something"?  I THINK I first saw Sonya's stuff on masondixonknitting.  I think the idea is to make all your own clothes!  A very tall order, I know, but very fun to dream about.  Use the # handmadewardrobechronicles #100actsofsewing and #sonyaphillip on Instagram if you'd like to explore further.

Silver Paws spends all morning trapping Bill and I with his boneless relaxing on our laps.

Fall is looking incredibly gorgeous all at once.  I drove into Denver (not that far, really) three times this week and the trees on almost every street are stunning.  The leaves are falling.
Clara and Millie Rose were chasing the butterflies on Wednesday.  My sister saw the butterfly migration in Colorado on her phone's weather app and asked if it was really true.  YES!  On Wednesday of this week there were millions!  So here's my childish nature journal post.
I had another birthday lunch with one of my best buddies and she gave me a huge balloon.  I gave it to James.
Christie got her hair cut.  Isn't she gorgeous?
This morning Noah napped while I watched the news.
"Go ahead.  Pet me.  You know you want to."
It's Halloween candy time at the grocery.  Yum.

The nasturtiums are so light-filled.  I am sorry I keep taking so many photos of them.  By the way, I am about ready to take down my garden flags.  The squirrels are sharpening their teeth on them and they keep falling.

Can you spot a few butterflies?

Our weather is turning colder for a day (so funny, this Colorado weather) coming up on Monday.  The temps will dip to 34 degrees and we'll have snow so all the lovely flowers will probably give up the ghost.

Here are some lovely nature journal posts:
Marcie and more Marcie
Heather of Blackberry Rambles (she actually teaches nature journal classes for children!)
Jody and another Jody post
I'm sorry that I've been loosey goosey with the nature journal posting.  I'm not one to stick with just one bloggy topic, as you well know.
As I read them, I will post them but I can't say they'll be on a certain day. They may taper off come November.  We'll see.
Thank you for coming by, friend.

Noah is such a cutie. Christie's hair looks lovely. Fun journal pages. I've seen a little from Jody but I'll need to click on these other links and check out their journals.
Hope you are having a great weekend.

Loving all of your photos: flowers, lovey little faces, crafy items and your colorful nature journal pages. All this scrumptious color is so satisfying!

Well, I for one, don't care how many topics you put in a post as long as they are as delightful as these. What a great name for a craft store. Between adorable kids, really cute cat and all the wonderful creativity in this post I'm feeling like a serious slacker but a happy one.

What stunning colours your Nasturtiums have, so Autumn-y.

How delightful to turn on my computer this sunny morn and see your gorgeous post pop up. 'Tis so lovely, sweet Pom Pom. Oh, I love the idea of dresses as one's uniform and I too love to stitch or tart an op shop lovely to wear. Somehow one always feels rather queenly when dressed in a handmade pretty. Such pretty garlands you found at Target and oh how I would love to browse at all the pretty fabrics in that store...just heaven! Enjoy the most delightful weekend at your whimsical place, lovely lady.

Your flowers are still so pretty and colorful, it's a shame that you're expecting snow so early.

I love the message on your wooden spoon. Your family pictures are always delightful. Your wool mess looks pretty nice to me.
Take care and have a great weekend.
Hugs, Julia

Your blog is going to be a wonderful 'memory jogger' for your kids/grandkids as the years move along. You highlight the sweet moments spent with the kids, new haircuts and garden treasures. Someday it will be so much fun for them to look back and read it. Make sure you save it offline so it doesn't 'disappear' on blogger someday. xo Diana

I've been very back-and-forth with my journaling as well, Pom. No worries. I need some calm days to get back to it a bit. LOVE your pics of Timothy. What a doll! He's so lovely. Your knitting projects look pretty. I'm interested in those sewn clothes. I'd like to sew again, if i KNEW that the clothes would turn out as I want and be comfortable and fit as I like. Hmm. I do like the idea.

Loving all your flowers and kid shots. The lady making her own clothes took me back in time. I loved sewing and would buy those "Jiffy" patterns to make the girls clothes. I could whip up a play outfit in an hour. I would not even pin the pieces together. LOL. I miss doing that. Blessings to you, xoxo, Susie

I'm afraid our Sweet Potato does the same thing as your Silver Paws - traps us and doesn't understand why we can't sit there for 5 hours providing a lap for his nap! I'm been thinking about taking up sewing clothes again, but it will probably not make it past the thinking stage. In my teens and twenties I sewed lots of beautiful clothes, but now ...

Lovely, lovely roses and other flowers. I am afraid of what I would look like if I tried to sew all my own clothes! Looks like a sweet cat you have! Nancy

What a nice post! I love your flower pics because mine are all gone :-( I went to the fabric store to look for a pattern to make a tunic top and was shocked at the price... almost $20! By the time I buy the pattern and fabric I can buy two or three! You have the most beautiful handwriting... I love your journal posts!

Great post, so many lovely flowers. Noah is so cute, what a little sweetie.

That Timmy is so spoiled, but oh so lovable.

Take care and enjoy your week.

I enjoyed your post, Pom. I have so little time for blogging lately (a real slacker) but made time to drop by to see how you are. And that Timothy...well, I never. xoxo

I think those sewing patterns look amazing Pom Pom ... so simple & do-able. I must go look into that more. My friend decided to only wear handmade items & sewed & knitted some really gorgeous but simple items for her winter wardrobe. Hello to Timothy ... yes I would definately pet you!!!

I would love to see a cloud of butterflies! How amazing that must be!
Your Nasturtiums are still looking so good; I hope they don't freeze when that cold weather sets in.
We are not having many colourful leaves this year because of the drought. Most of the leaves are dried up brown.

You can never have too many nasturtiums, I love them, their smell too. My mother used to make us sandwiches with the leaves (yuk). I am sorry my nature journal is so limited/non existent at present, hope to improve during the next few weeks. It was truly amazing to see on the news the satellite images of the red admiral butterflies over this planet from your part of the World, I would love a big picture to frame - really special. You are so nice and so is your blog and your nature journal and your flowers and I just love everything. Thank you for mentioning me. I did wish I was doing a journal because I do love all of the fallish things around here.
I do hope you make some of those lovely clothes.
Have a lovely Sunday.

I always enjoy your posts, and the nasturtiums are beautiful. Makes me want to grow a few in the garden next summer. Gosh, that seems a long ways off.

I just saw your forecast up there, whoa. Stay warm. We won't have snow where I live, but there should be the first hard freeze of the season tomorrow night! I'm ready. I would love to visit Fancy Tiger someday. Maybe I'll try to get there next time I'm in Denver. I love the 100 Acts of Sewing designs too. I would really like to make one of her tunics. I never sew for myself, but I think I'd enjoy it. Hope you're all doing well!

It's been raining so much around here that I still have some rose bushes blooming and my marigolds are still hanging in there. I would love to sew my own clothes but I'm afraid my sewing skills are limited. I think a sewing class would be fun though.

Knitting, nasturtiums, nature journals and lots of nice people!
All that knitting keeps your mind sharp!
The nasturtiums are so pretty! Glad you got the pics before it snows!
Your nature journal is so cute.
And your family is beautiful as usual!
Wouldn't it be great to be Tim and be retired your entire life?!? Ha!

I like your nature journal very much. I like how you are seeing nature everywhere, even in a big city. Yes, I did spot the butterflies. They are the same ones that are fluttering around here -- the Painted Lady. So cool. You still have zinnias? Mine froze a week or so ago.

Love seeing your family and Tim. Kitty cat loves you!

I love the idea of sewing my own wardrobe, and I've looked at a few patterns but had not heard of this designer. I can't wait to check out her patterns.
That said, I am not very good at sewing yet, so this is a dream a this point.
I love your meandering post and all the beautiful and colorful photos!

So good to see your beautiful photos! Grandbabies, art, flowers, and gorgeous kitties! Fall is coming very slowly here. I am very afraid it will snow before we get any good colour this year. We shall see.

Beautiful nature snaps! I went looking at the patterns and they look interesting. I already wear a sort of a uniform -- most jeans, sometimes slacks, and button down blouses of some sort. I wouldn't mind making some of my own things again though and these patterns look like fun. Let me know how yours go!
