Gardening Thoughts

My friend Marcie wrote this lovely gardening book.  The only food I am growing this year is cucumbers.  Our Jeff is a pickle maker and I must produce a good crop for him.  Marcie's book is for gardeners who eat their plants and she writes it so well, so direct and also poetic. She instructs in a gentle manner.  You can buy this handbook on Amazon.  I would, so do.

My friend Nana Go Go recommended this coloring book to me so I ordered it.  It's a different sort of coloring book in that it has less small spaces to fill in.  I like that.  I can't get myself to spend hours over a coloring page.

When Plum Cake and I go shopping on Thursday mornings (toys) I like to stroll down the crafty aisle.  A few dollars buys cotton yarn for future dishcloths.  A lovely pursuit.
Our planting is almost done (a have a few more seed packets to plant - well, MORE than a few).  I bought way too many plants (6-packs, 8-packs) and planting was very bendy (ouch) and my boots are now called farty boots because as I tromp around in them they make a farty noise, being rubber and all.  Gardening is a lot of work and aches and pains result.  I have realized that I am not a fan of getting dirty so that somewhat limits my garden play.  Oh well.  We do learn about ourselves as we go along, don't we?

We are still smelling the floor finish in our house.  Three coats is stinkier.  Oh well.  I cleared out some of the clutter and when I put things back in different places, all seemed fresher.

 The farty boots
I love lobelia.  I have a new Gudrun dress that is the color of lobelia.  It is sort of a hippie dress but I am going to make the most of 57 year old invisibility and wear it A LOT!

This is the last week of school, so Samantha Rose will finish on Thursday.  We went to Millie's preschool graduation yesterday.  Each child shared what they'd like to be when they grow up.  My favorites included a stay-at-home mom, a king, and a mermaid.  Sadly, not one of the children wants to be a teacher.  Maybe they are too young to admire teachers and they see their own preschool teachers as second-string mommies.
Seed planting today, lunch with Jenny, dinner with Kelli's brood, and some quiet moments in between.  I hope your day holds a few gentle doings.  God be with you, nice visitor.

A sweet, fun post. Maybe we can grow up to be mermaids, too. Show us your dress!!!

Looks like a lot of fun, but a lot of work!!! You are tending your relationships too! so nice! I am still very close to my Grandma today and remember when I was a kid that she would meet a friend with a granddaughter the same age and we would play on the burger king playground; I esp remember once we did this and it was pouring rain and we got all wet and had so much fun!

As always...a fun post. Love the plants, the flowers, the yard. Your books look wonderful. We still have seven days left of school, yet we are so done! I am ready for summer!!! Have a great week.

I always think life deserves a celebration when school is out. Summer officially begins! In your seventh picture down, is that a frog? Is he playing dead? Or is it a toy? Your yard looks so pretty and green. Planting is lots of work. I always wonder why I do it at the time, then things bloom and I forget.
I love that sign on the board. It is so awesome. It makes me happy. Did you paint it? Come to my house someday and draw out rug patterns for me. I love all of your cups and saucers and your shelves. Your boots make me laugh. Oh the stories I could tell, from my visit with four boys. :)
I had to laugh about your dress and invisibility. So true. I hope you can show us. I love lobelia. I would love to see it in a pot. Have a lovely day.

What a great post. Sounds like you have been so busy in your garden. I had to laugh at your boots. I have a pair Croc's that sound that way LOL.

I just purchase from Lowe's lobella plants 36 to be exact. I am afraid that I will be out of sorts after all that work.

Your photo's are great.

Enjoy your summer with the grands.
Hugs,
Mary

A dress in lobelia blue will be a sight to behold, how very pretty. I like lobelia but so do the slugs so not sure how long mine will survive. I don't know Gudrun clothes, will have to take a look. Have been writing, will post soon.

I'm with you, I can't do those all popular coloring books... too much time involved. I have yarn play that has to happen. However, I might just like that one you bought! The gardening book is lovely too. I love seeing all of your pretties :-)
Children are so fabulous in their young dreams, aren't they?
a stay-at-home mom (you Go Girl), a king (you Go Boy) and a mermaid...that was ME.
Wishing you lots and lots and lots of sunshine in your world,
Danette

Thank you for the comments on my book, Pom! You are very kind! :) Can I link to this post on my blog?

LOVE your boots. I need a pair like that! I would enjoy seeing the lobelia blue dress. That is an incredible color! Color can make me SO happy!

Or do the pre schoolers already know that if they became teachers they would never see their own families? lol x

And with you, too. (The God be with you part!)
I might need to check out that book for the gardeners in our family in the eastern part of our state.
Fun boots. I only like to get dirty when I'm dirty already. I have to do my work before a shower. Never after a shower.
I've colored one page of a coloring book so far. It was fun but I don't know how much more I'll get done until I'm stuck on a plane or something...
Your hippie dress sounds interesting...

Ha ha! I hate to get dirty too, which does hamper my gardening fun. People ask if I like to garden and I always have to think -- the thing is I have a huge garden (comparatively to the amount of yard space I have) and it takes some work but I think it's a bit like cooking -- I want the end result so badly that I put up with the work (and I guess the dirt)!!

A knit and crochet colouring book sounds perfect for you!!
I agree with what Heather has written in her comment. I want the end result so I do what has to be done but my favourite part is the sitting on the swing and admiring it all.
School is finished very early out your way. Here the kids go until the very end of June.

I am not familiar with Gudrun dresses, but I am familiar with 57 year old invisibility so I say "wear the dress and enjoy it."
Your flowers look very pretty. As much as I enjoy gardening, I am finding the bending to be a lot more painful than it used to be. Darn it!

Lots of sunshine & loveliness today dear Pom Pom, I love lobelia also & I especially love the blue colour of it. Your pink flamingos are adorable. I think the new colouring book sounds perfect as I dont like the really intricate ones also .... I get distracted too easily !!!!

Farty boots... I love it! I haven't planted anything yet... we rarely plant before Memorial Day here in the Northeast. I haven't even bought any plants yet... yikes! Your gardens look wonderful, they will be gorgeous in full bloom!

You've been a very busy gardener putting out all those flowers! Goodness!! And now seeds too? You'll reap what you sow my friend! Flowers galore. Think of the bouquets you'll be giving and setting around your home. Exciting!

Your farty boots are cute! I can't wear those kinds of boots around too much. They're hard on my feet. I hope you get a little rest from your hard gardening work.

A Gudrun dress worn with farty boots or as I call them "wellies" is the latest look for the over 55's, you'll look amazing dear Pom!
I'm scaling down on the number of things to grow in the potager this year, too much bending plays havoc with my lower back but I do still enjoy getting my hands in the dirt.
The colouring book looks like a nice way to relax after all that yard work, enjoy!

You have been most busy. The flowers will be beautiful when they fill in. You'll love it. I am not surprised that children don't want to be teachers these days. Mermaids and Kings do what they want. UNC is now experiencing a much reduced interest in teaching, too. The most popular major, Criminal Justice. Students want to work for the FBI and investigate crimes. I have my own suspicions as two why students are not becoming teachers and perhaps you do, too. Have great week.

That coloring book is right up your alley! I should get some cotton yarn. I've long wanted to knit some dishcloths. I just forget about it when I'm in the vicinity of yarn!
I sure do wish you'd take a pic of yourself in that blue Gudrun hippy dress. I've got a couple of "hippy" skirts and I'm trying to work up the nerve to wear them in public. Maybe if I saw you wearing something daring, it would help me? Ha ha!
One thing I've learned about myself as I've gotten older is that I rarely eat what I plant in the garden. That's why it's only tomatoes and summer squash this year! A smaller garden is more fun for me.

So nice being back and reading your last few posts.

Your garden looks beautiful, lobelia girl! At Friday prayer group we have just been reading Jeremiah 29: planting your garden and eating its produce. Hope you'll have lots of pickle to eat! Another month for us in school, but the holiday feeling is creeping in around the edges x

I like that phrase: 57 year old invisibility. :) haha! -- it's so true that as we age into our 50s, we are not noticed as much, and we have the luxury to observe people. I like it. I bet the dress is comfy and pretty. Your boots are simply too pretty to be farty boots :)

Maybe children gravitate more toward teaching as a profession as they get older and realize that being a king or a mermaid (or a president or a football star) are not likely. We will always need teachers.
