I Made a Dress!

These tulips are SO worth the nine dollars I paid for them.  I have been sniffing their spring-ness from quite a distance.
Look at the shine on the outside.  Aren't they a miracle?
I ordered this Living Bible from Amazon (used) and it seems like every page has been turned but there are no markings.  Perfect.  I first read the Living Bible when I was a sophomore in high school.  I loved the soft flowing story of it.  I'm so happy to have a copy of it again and I've been making up for the lack of markings.  I'm a bible doodler.
I've been sewing!  Yes, Bill agreed that a new sewing machine was important, so I went to the Bernina store and bought the light portable (basic stitches) model.  Bernina doesn't make this model but it is made to their specifications.  It has a five year massive warranty and it purrs like a kitten!  My Dottie Angel dress is done!  I'm wearing it!

The instructions are VERY clear and very easy.  I switched it up a bit because it is supposed to have a tie just under the bust and I deem that unnecessary because of my stout granny bod.

I'll take a whole self photo (Bill will) but he's not home at the moment.  It's kind of like a salwar kameez because I'm wearing it with linen pants.  When the pants came I tried them on immediately and they felt a bit tight in the behind but linen stretches and they fit now!  Woot!  Woot!
So now that I've shared my sewing (thank you for being supportive!) I shall share three cozy images.  First, Uncle Wiggly's broken down house.  It's STILL cozy, isn't it?
Isn't this a darling gypsy wagon?  Don't get too cozy because there is a certain someone in the bed taking a wee nap!
And finally a Richard Scarry masterpiece.  Tonight Kelli's girls are coming to spend the weekend.  The marriage retreat that the parents were going to attend is too far away (lots of mountain driving and that isn't wise in January in the Rockies) so they'll have a staycation and the girls will hang out with us.  Yay!  I hope they decide sleeping is a good idea.  We are such early to bed, early to rise types that if they choose to giggle and wiggle late into the night, Granny might get grumpy.
I hope you have a glorious weekend!  Stay warm (or cool in Australia) and drink more than your fair share of tea.  Thank you very much for stopping by!

Well done you!!! the little glimpse of your dress is pretty - can't wait to see a pic of the whole you! I like Dotty Angel too - my sewing machine has been languishing and makes me feel guilty - my problem is finding nice fabric but I am on the look out - maybe something nice will turn up unexpectedly. Cut flowers are more expensive in your part of the world the going rate here for tulips is between £2.50 and £4 at the supermarket and 10 daffodils is a giveaway £1 - we should be buying buckets of them! I have some planted in tubs that will surprise me any time soon. Betty x

Your new sewing machine looks very nice. Hope you have lots of happy hours together.

I can guarantee my share of tea will be had this weekend. It is supposed to get quite chilly ---- well, at least by Florida standards.

Happy weekend!

Now I want tulips! I am going grocery shopping later so I might actually come home with some! I love the dress -- the pattern looks like something that I could handle with MY stout granny bod. Actually, I have been thinking about doing some sewing for me - I might start with a peasant blouse. I know that Richard Scarry story! Have fun!

Boy that Bible gave me a huge flashback as I recognize that cover so well. What a cute sewing machine. I'm glad you were able to replace your and that it purrs! I'm a big fan of Richard Scarry! Have a fun weekend with the grands and I hope you all can sleep well and that no one gets grumpy! How wonderful for your kids that you give them some time off from parenting...

Good for you for buying a new sewing machine and getting that dress finished. Having a purring sewing machine makes sewing a lot more fun. I'm looking forward to seeing you model your new dress.

I'm sure the girls will be little angels and will go to sleep as they re told.
Have a great weekend,
Hugs,

I still have my old, very well-used hard cover Living Bible with its leatherette cover. When I pick it up dried leaves tend to fall out.

I'm SO happy for you that you got a new sewing machine. I'm sure you'll get a lot of use and enjoyment from it.

That's a darling dress pattern! I'm so glad you got a new machine. You'll make good use of it! I think I had that same One Way Bible when I was a teenager!! Love it!
Have fun with the kiddos. I'm glad to hear that other grannies get a little grumpy now and then. But mostly we love our time with the littles! :)

A new sewing machine. Yay. I use a Bernia, a low end simple machine that I purchased some years ago. You will find that Bernia gives the best service. Good choice. Love the dress. I bought daffodils the other day. So nice to have bit spring in the house isn't it? Will it warm up? We had a spot of snow last night. Fog this AM. You have have the best reading material there.

You do write the sweetest posts! I LOVE your dress. In fact, I fell in love with the pattern when you talked about it a few posts back. Last year I made myself 4 pairs of wide legged pantaloons. I sure did! A dress like yours would be really cute with a pair. I also love the fabric you used.

Hoping the weekend brings lots of naps and such. Will you be watching the Broncos tomorrow? We will!!

Lovely dress - clever you!! I am tempted by a sewing machine, but I think it would be a pâssing craze that would be a waste of money in the end. I wouldn't use it enough.

Oh I love those illustrations, but especially the last one of the mice. So adorable! I wish so much that I had the gift of painting/drawing those cozy scenes for children's books. I love them. sigh. Your dress looks great and so practical with those pockets. I love pockets. Stay warm!!

SWEEEEET little Bernina and that dress pattern is a favorite of mine, too. Loved your fabrics for the dress and how perfect is it with warm stretchy pants and an undershirt with long sleeves. Pockets a necessity, too. Well done!

Your new sewing machine is so gorgeously retro! I love it and I am loving the glimpses of the Dottie Angel dress.
I am so with you on those tulips. Now Christmas is over I am loving a few Springtime blooms in the house - especially as we have had endless rain. Wishing you a week of sunshine, from the tulips or the sun! Tania -HedgerowHarvest-
