Poetry Coffee House

This morning I am going to dash to the grocery store for more coffee house supplies.  We're having our poetry slam at school today.  We, my students and I, will drink hot beverages, speak poetry into the air, and play the bongos (in between poetry selections).  I shall be the barista.  It's hard to wait on each student, but it's fun because in the past I've discovered that some people have never been waited on by an apron clad granny.  They like it.
The best parts of teaching for me are the kids (of course) and the classroom.  I love having my own little nest at school.

So instead of sitting here (I like to!) I will be hustling around taking drink orders.  Blueberry tea?  Decaf coffee?  Cream and sugar?  I'll let you know how it goes, but after four different groups of kids, by tomorrow afternoon I will definitely be ready to take off my apron!
The predicted weather here is COLD and snowy.  Yikes!  I am so happy that Sunshine is hanging on the bike hooks in our garage, reminding me that spring will come and summer will be glorious.
Maybe you could read a bit of poetry to yourself today.  The Poetry Foundation is a wonderful website.
Words.  They are the best food.

PomPom your students must be very excited to go to school everyday. May I ask if you teach In a charter school? Remember the Beatniks? Let us know what poems the kids liked best. Will they write their own poems? I am very excited for them and you.

Have a lovely day, it sounds fantastic. I noticed you changed your background so could you answer this question, What wind brought Mary Poppins? What did the wind change to when she left? I have been thinking of that and I can't find the answer.
Have a fun day being a servant. It sounds fun.

May they feel your willingness to bless them...and to be tipped over and poured out...

and may your willingness to teach them and open them up and bless them be contagious so that they too, each in their own way, may become energy givers.

What a cool idea to have a Coffee House Poetry Slam. You're a great teacher, Pommie. I hope it turns out to be a fun project.

Yes, I like that about words. I remember my high school English teacher saying poetry is 'freeze, dried, emotion.'

Your classroom is every bit as cheerful as your blog & as you are. I just love it!

It just makes me happy when I stop by for a short visit.

Where were YOU when I was a student.

You're giving the kids knowledge, but also soul food. Wonderful, wonderful. Keep on doing what you do so beautifully!

Cheers,

Sharon

There sure is a lot going on in that classroom! I don't remember ever having a classroom that was so full of fun. A hot beverage sounds good right about now! Keep warm! :)

You have a cozy home and a cozy classroom in which to spend these cold days of winter. Just think though: Soon it will be spring and you will be "riding Sunshine" while birds sing above you. Thank you for the little glimpse of your teaching life. I love it!

Off to read or write a poem or two!
