Into the Woods, Out of the Woods

Happy after Christmas to you!  I have had the flu.  I missed Christmas (sad!) because I was in bed.  Bill cooked the meal (it smelled very good!) I could hear the girls and their families, but I couldn't get my aching head off the pillow.  Ouch.  I'm very thankful for a body that recovers from such blows and I'm taking it slow as I revive.  Whew!
We have snow this morning.  Beautiful!  We're going to chug on over to Kelli's new house this morning (I'll take pictures of the land, the barn, and the white scenery) and Jenny, Sam and Plum Cake are coming for lunch. YAY!
I keep a collection of tiny home images and woodsy spots and I revisit them constantly.  I have a new gardening book for spring planning, but now pre-January and all, I like thinking about peace and calm, slowing down.  Staying home, away from the hustle and bustle, sounds perfect.

Soon I'll be sleeping over with grand kids while parents take a short trip.  There is nothing like the slow rhythm of "all day play" days especially because Granny is not a the top of her game just yet.  Back to the woods topic (sorry!) and a perfect song by Nickle Creek http://youtu.be/-e0VkWRYaMI
Susan Branch's house drawings are my favorite.  This one can be our house in the woods, any house can really.
Being lost in the woods and stuck there, well that's not so good, but walking toward stability and peace is very good.
When I was sick, I watched a little television and I'm even more convinced than ever that I like to limit viewing to peaceful and lovely films.  I can't stand the greed and the base assumptions of advertisers.  Do they really think EVERYBODY wants and wants and wants?  Ugh.
We're starting poetry at school.  I hope the students will want to watch words dance and find some familiar voices in verse.  They watch the screen way too much and there isn't much poetry on television.  Shocker.
I've been using A Child's Garden of Verses by Robert Louis Stevenson as support beneath my floppy journal.  I read the rhymes often and they are comforting.  The Tasha Tudor illustrations light up the pages.  The whole book has a soft and soothing hum to it.
I hope the air around you hums as December and another year come to a close.

(I've noticed even when I publish some comments, they don't show up. Every now and then I go back into the dashboard and republish them.  Weird.  I think Blogger is on overload.  Thank you for your kind comments.  I read and enjoy each one and I never reject them.  I'm not sure why that happens.  Blogger needs a maintenance overhaul, I fear.)

You too, I am having fits with leaving comments and seeing them on my blog. I do wonder what on earth they are doing.
I am so glad you are feeling better. I love little houses too and watch videos of people who live in them.
I never watch T.V either just because it makes me feel it bothers me too much.
I can't wait to see photos and get better soon. Yay for snow!!
Have a lovely day.

Glad you're feeling better--don't do too much and relapse! Sounds like you already have busy plans. It seems when we get a vacation from school, our bodies want to Stop! Rest! So sorry that you were unwell on Christmas. Wishing you good health now and in the new year.

Poor you being so ill on Christmas day, now I am ill with a bug too and had to take a day off work. I like your comments about cottages and the woods ... as a child one of my favourite stories was Hansel and Gretel - it probably will sound a little sad to tell you this but I am saying it with a smile! I wasn't a very happy child and wished and wished that I could go into the woods and get lost like them and find the gingerbread house and NOT come back!!! how awful! but it's still my favourite story and I suppose I do have the woods and the gingerbread house after a fashion now I'm grown up. We had floods, up to the top of our wellies but it didn't touch the house - more expected tomorrow night - Happy New Year celebrations to you and yours - Betty x

The Christmas Crud has been making the rounds here too. Hubs had it just before Xmas Eve and then started recuperating around Xmas day. Now some of the kids are coming down with it. I'm glad you are bouncing back, even if slowly.

Love the little houses you've pictured. I think I would like a small house too. Less to clean and less stuff inside. Just a few cherished things to use -- two bowls, two plates (maybe 4) two cups, one pitcher, and so on.

I'm with you about the TV. I can't stand the commercials. Thankfully, we have DVR and I can "pause" and then dash through the commercials if I want to.

Get well, dear lady!

Karen, I am SO sad to hear you were sick on Christmas; if I could have, I would have changed places with you! Hope you're feeling much, much better...if not totally well. Happy New Year to you and yours.

Oh, dear Pom, I'm sorry you've been sick. And the flu! And the horrific aching head that makes it so you can't even raise your head. I'm glad you're on the mend.

Blessings on you for teaching poetry. So many children aren't introduced to it at all, and I'm truly afraid we will lose poetry as an art form in a generation or two. It's so undervalued and not read these days.

I have a tiny house just down the street I've been meaning to photograph for you. Actually two of them, in Oriental. I'll try to do that soon. Love you.

So sorry to hear you have been ill. Hoping health is yours soon! I love Robert Lewis Stevenson and A Child's Garden of Verses. I memorized many of those poems as a child - good memories of lovely teachers who taught me to love beautiful verse! I totally agree with you about TV - it really is the vast wasteland and there is almost nothing of interest on. Get feeling better soon. I love those tiny houses. They look so cozy and fun. Have fun with your grandkids!

Oh bummers. Sorry to hear you were sick over Christmas, but I think your gift is having a husband that can fill-in for you when you are sick. What a gift!!!

May your New Year bring all and more then you hoped for in 2013!!!

I enjoyed seeing the cute little houses. Loved seeing the light and bright interior of the one little house. Don't think I'd do too well climbing a ladder to get to/or out of bed, though.

My TV viewing habits have been leaning more toward calmer shows, often shows on PBS or sometimes really old reruns such as The Waltons. Made the change after accidently falling asleep during one major network show, and waking up in the midst of a horrible nightmare being generated by the crime show that had come on while I was sleeping. There were images that I would never have purposely allowed into my mind. Many years ago, there used to be a label on some movies and shows--"Subject matter may be too intense for younger viewers." Well, it seems like lately some of the subject matter is too intense for this 59 year old viewer, too.

Hope each day finds you feeling better and better! Happy New Year!

So sorry to hear that you were sick during Christmas. That has happened to be a few times and it is not fun! I'm glad you are feeling better. I hope your students love the poetry... it was one of my favorite things to study in school.

Oh no! Get better fast. It is amazing how many of our blog friends are under the weather. I think we do so much, we wear ourselves out. You take care. Kit

I was wondering why you were so quiet for a while there! Lots of that kind of thing going around here, too. Glad you're feeling better!
I agree that TV isn't all it's cracked up to be, except for the occasional movie.
Enjoy the grands, poetry with the kids and looking at tiny houses. :)

What a sorry shame you were ill over Christmas, especially as I feel you would have gained so much joy from the season! I hope that now you are on the mend you can still find time to relax and enjoy some time away from work, before term starts again.

Give Bill a big hug from me for looking after you and your family!
Blessongs, dear Pompom xx

So sorry to hear you were sick for Christmas. I wholeheartedly agree with your thoughts on television viewing.
I do hope you continue to feel better and stronger each day.
I enjoyed your little houses in the woods. Susan Branch's (along with the quote) is my favorite.
Wishing you happiness and good health in the new year.
Take care.

Oh I'm so sorry you were sick on Christmas!!! It seems the lot of a number of people. Speaking of gardening books, I just got the latest Beatrix Potter Gardening book from the library -- came out late last year. Can't wait to read it and will post a review when I'm done.
