Childlike Thinking

Have you been watching Christmas movies?  I want to!  Home Alone is so cute and the house is so lovely!  I love The Holiday and Love Actually, too.  Love Actually has a few scenes I could do without but I SO love Emma Thompson in everything she does.  Good Nanny McPhee, right?
Have you sent cards?  I haven't.  I cannot seem to carve out a long length of time.
I've been reading A Child's Garden of Verses illustrated by Tasha Tudor.  The verses are so sweet, so pure.  Stories are balm, don't you think?  Illustrations are the same.  Think about how long Richard Scarry's drawings have been blessing people!   I first discovered them when I was babysitting (so long ago, me a teenager reading stories to children!) I fell in love with Lowly Worm and Goldbug.

I have a Pinterest board titled All Things Three Bears.  Everyone in my family of origin (five of us kids) has a few bear connections.  Our name starts with Bere, so we are bears.  I've told you about my Edward Bear.  He's my teddy and I like to hug and smooch him.  Tina (The Quiet Home) has a teddy, too.  Do you think you might need a teddy for Christmas?
I like The Three Bears because I like porridge and cozy beds.  I like kitchen chairs and soft armchairs in warm arrangements.  I also like walks in the woods, but I haven't had a woodsy walk since last summer when I was in Washington.  Betty at Betty the Wood Fairy must take those woodsy walks for me.
So all this to say, children make the Christmas season very sweet.  Birdie sang a little solo at her holiday show last night and she'll sing again on Sunday at the church program.  Sam made a lovely snow bunny at preschool and I'm sure my Fort Collins grands are continuing to do fun Advent activities with their clever mama as their daddy organizes church celebrations.  I gave some of my students candy canes the other day and they were delighted.  Simple sweetness in honor of the dearest infant King.
Come to Him like a child.  What an invitation.

I watched Christmas films yesterday on my day off whilst ironing - I put decorations up too - woodsy walks are a bit muddy at the moment with not much to see - Sundays was rewarded with grazing horses but they were a bit too friendly and we had not brought carrots so had to walk away fast! Postage in the UK has gone up so I am emailing Christmas greetings rather than posting cards. Hope you have lots of quiet moments. Betty

Sometimes, PomPom, you bring everything into focus. The innocence of a child's mind sets things straight.

My mom sewed a Lowly Worm from felt for my youngest brother when we were growing up. I loved that guy!

Also, one of my book treasures is a four book set of Richard Scarey stories, encased in ramshackle cardboard house. In this case, "ramshackle" means loved by many children over the years.

Of course I loved Lowly Worm and Goldbug, though I admit to hiding the books when I had read them out loud 20 times in one week. I have loved bears, but never had one for a special friend. Only my Ann's and Andy's. I do love the Child's Garden of Verses by Tasha Tudor. I love every single rhyme. I haven't watched a single Christmas movie though we have been quoting While you were sleeping and some of our other favorites to each other.
Have a lovely day. I cannot seem to carve out time either and I am home all day. :)

Love Christmas movies. Home Alone is one of those family favorites. The Family Stone is one movie we like (minus a word or two).

I'm in love with picture storybooks too. I have The Night Before Christmas illustrated by Tasha Tudor that I love to drag out. Lots of Christmas books that I think the grands will enjoy. I need to get them out today. Thanks for the reminder.

I love when you share books, because I so enjoy children's books also. One of the best things about this time of year is reading all our Christmas books.
I also thought of you when I went to see the movie "The Book Thief"...it was wonderful.
Cards...haven't sent any in years, but sure need to with all our family additions.
Fun post..thanks so much!

You name my two favourite grown-up Christmas movies! We have a snuggly duck here who is ten years old and defies all estimates on how many more he'll see! He is grey and more full of holes than stuffing, but as Mattman professes he's part of the family!

Love those snugly bears, Pom. I'm a huge fan of Little Bear. He holds many childhood memories for me.

Glad to hear you're enjoying Facing East. She has such a witty style!
I find myself watching Hallmark Christmas movies some evenings.
Enjoy all of the grandkid talent!
Merry Christmas!

A sweet post. I've watched a few Christmas movies. My favorite is A Christmas Carol. I haven't sent any cards yet. I wasn't sure if I wanted to, but received some in the mail today. I do enjoy them, so I probably will work on some this weekend. I don't have a Teddy bear, but both of my grandsons have bears that sing the alphabet, so sometimes I give them a hug. :)

I've been at home a great deal recently due to my knee injury and am at the stage if I see another heartwarming seasonal movie based on love, forgiveness and redemption of crabbit and unlovable estranged relatives then I may be forced to occasion harm on someone!!! I am all schmaltz-ed out!

That said I do love revelling in my favourite Christmas films and Love Actually is an enduring favourite.

Oh Nanny McPhee...one of my FAVORITES! I adore Emma Thompson and want to see her in the "Mr. Banks" movie coming out later this month. It's the one about Mary Poppins.

Home Alone is my favourite Xmas movie ever! :)
I especially love the scene when the child sings "I'm dreaming of a White Xmas"...and then screams after putting on some after shave, LOL!

How lovely for you to see your children singing. I loved Home Alone too!
By the way, I hope I didn't offend you with my Christmas jumper comments. I know exactly what you mean by the old lady thing and you're right, no one should be made to feel mocked about their jumper. Hence why I only buy jumpers I like, not to be ironic. X
