Brown Betty

Our oldest son, Brad, and his sweet wife April, gave me a lovely Brown Betty tea pot.  I have only used it once this week, but NEXT week when I have a break from school, I shall use it every day.  I can have tea at school, too.  It's snowy outside and I will make it a priority to swivel my chair around and gaze out the window as I sip my tea.  I MUST have quiet moments or I tend to lose my way.  How do you get your quiet?

I've been enjoying the school day very much lately.  I feel sure it is because of this particular group of children.  They are one hundred percent lovable.  We're writing personal narratives.  I'm writing mine about the time my family was piling into the station wagon to go to church and we noticed that twenty cows were loose on the golf course.  If I can polish it up enough, I'll share it with you.  I hope you get to encounter children today.  On Tuesday, I drove over to Jenny's after work.  Samantha led me all over their house.  She wanted to play "sleepover" so she carried all her blankets down to the family room.  When I left, she played "sleepover" with her mommy.  So cute!  Little Lizzy is thriving!  She kicks and kicks.  She's a healthy little wiggle worm! On Saturday, I'll see seven of our grands at Brad's church harvest festival!  Woo hoo!
Do you have happy feelings about fall?  Candle glow and hot tea pots?  Christmas music?  October has been busy for us and when we get back from Canada next week (we are going to be gone just few days and we aren't leaving for a few days yet) I think I will revel in the season.  The season is not that busy for us.  We stay home. We don't go to many parties or spend a lot of time shopping.  I like that.
Even though it is snowing, there are still mums at the grocery.  Here is a BIG bunch just for you!
I have added the reply to comments feature on my blog and I have replied to each of you on my last post.  I love this new Blogger feature.  It's easier to be specific.
Take care today, good pilgrim.  Thank you for popping in here and reading my words and looking at my images.  I appreciate the kind attention.

oh I must look at the new blogger feature for replies, didn't know about that. I'm glad you're having some restful moments. I have been having the odd afternoon sleep and I get to cuddle up with my cat as well as next doors! will post a pic on my next post. I have lots of craft books at the moment to keep me sitting quietly. I am imagining snow - you must be wearing thick woollies! it is mild here in the UK but that's about to change in the next two days - I can't wait for frosty mornings. Betty x

Hooray! I'm glad it is so British that you have one! that means I am British, too. Right? I remember when you told me about saying, "Shall I be Mother?" I love that, Angela!

Oops! I should have capitalized that THAT.

HI Betty! I am so glad that you are resting and healing!
Cats and naps go well together, I agree!
The weather is cold but not freezing. I WILL wear warmer clothes today.
Take care, sweet friend.

Lots of pretty things today. I have poured my coffee and I love sitting here while the house is quiet---still. Just a small window of time. Having my coffee with you.
I am the same way, if I don't have a bit of time during the day to be quiet and reflect then I get pretty sketchy. Especially when life keeps handing out challenges.
I love your brown Betty tea pot. I have my grandmother's. No telling how old hers is, one of the few things I received from her. I hope you stay bundled up and enjoy fall. It is very pretty here with the sky being bright blue. Only in October are the skies so blue with the chill in the air and the hint of wood smoke on the breeze.
Hugs from me to you my dear friend. I laughed and laughed about your beef brisket. I have done that too. :)

I like your idea of writing personal narratives. Your particular story reminded me of something that happened many years ago. I'll have to try to remember to write about it on my blog; a great place for narratives!

We usually have a small, quiet Christmas as well. One of our boys remarked some years back that it was kind of silly to stress over buying presents for everyone when our resources were limited, so we've cut back on that and enjoyed the other treasures of the season.

I have a test on Physical Assessments today. I'm kinda nervous, but I'm going to try to just take a deep breath and leave it in God's hands since I've done all I can to prepare. Your posts help me to see life in a cheerier light. Thanks for another uplifting post, Pom!

Enjoy your teapot! :)

A teapot made in Britain? Even we Brits find it hard to find things made here! Love it! :) Thanks for the warm and friendly post. xx (still wish you were my teacher) xxx

Hi there! The Brown Betty is lovely -- so sturdy, warm, squat and useful. I love it! You KNOW how I feel about fall, so I won't wax eloquent here :) I hope you have a lovely time up North in the tundra - haha! I know what you mean about teaching being a comfort. With the right kids who aren't stressful, and material you love to teach, the routine of the classroom is VERY comforting, so predictable, a place you can be in a bit of control of. Sometimes I do miss that very much. My last classroom was truly a home away from home -- candles, music, etc. I even had a crackling-fireplace screen saver that I put up on my Smartboard :) The kids LOVED it too.
Enjoy your lovely snow, dear.

Pom, can you tell me how to do the reply-to-comment thing? I went to my blogger dashboard, but couldn't find the place to "turn it on," and it's not on my blog comments itself. Help!

Pom Pom said...

I remember that you shared with me about your "fireplace" in the classroom and I've thought of it so often, MK!
For comment reply go to settings/comments/html for comment placement. You can't do a pop up window AND the reply. If you can, I haven't figured it out yet!

You are so sweet! Hey, if I had been your teacher I would have been singing your praises! YOU are so brilliant and you are an amazing writer!

Pom Pom said...

Yes, TexWis. I know. Sorry! If I don't put on word verification I get spammed twenty times a day. I don't like having to delete and spam all those product advertising comments I get.

Thank you! It's so sturdy!

Oh, Lisa! God bless you as you study! You will make a wonderful nurse. You're so smart! I miss your posts though, art friend.
Hang in there! I'll mail your dolls as soon as I can catch my breath. LOVE!

I KNEW you'd agree with me about the quiet, Kim! We like to read the same sweet books, too!
I still haven't gone to the grocery store and purchased a REAL brisket! I hope that my brain will sort itself out when I have a few days off!
Thank you for having your coffee with me! I'm on my lunch break right now, so time for tea!

You're so sweet, Frances. Guess what we are reading in Reading Workshop? Chicken Boy! The kids like it. They are listening intently! I'm using the CD you sent.

Hi Julie!

I tried to leave a comment on your blog and it told me I had conflicting edits. I'll try again. LOVE!

when i was working and raising my daughter i used to get up before anyone else. i had to get up very early but i LOVED the deep sense of quiet and it was a chance for me to feel how renewed i was after a good nights rest. i enjoyed my morning tea at this time and it never tasted as good at any other time of the day~! i still think of those times even though it's been a long time since i had to try so hard to find the quiet.
now i'm able to relax into my stitching and creating each day and i find that is a good escape into the 'quiet' also.
of course, almost everything is better with a good cup of tea.

enjoy your upcoming week Pom Pom.

I think it is so smart of moms when they get up early to soak in the good quiet before the darling angels' feet hit the floor! Oh, I do love tea and I wish I could drink some right now, but it keeps me awake at night. Tomorrow morning, for sure!
Oh, Libby Q! YOUR STITCHING is always wonderful! (BIG HUG)

Oh, I love your brown betty! Tea is so yummy when it is cold. I like it best in the afternoon. I am ready for a little r&r. Our homeschool co-op only meets for 2 more weeks and then we are off until Jan! Whoohoo!!!!

I would like to read your students' narratives. I am sure they are funny and light hearted. I usually have my freshmen write narrative essays, but this year I didn't. They write sad stories. In light of the awful summer we had, the narratives would have been grim. I had decided last spring not to have that assignment and I am glad now that I didn't have read sad stories. Enjoy your time off.

I love the Brown Betty teapots, they are wonderful :) I hope you enjoy your pots of tea, don't forget to warm the pot before hand, and pop in an extra spoon of tea for the pot, lol :)
I hope you have a lovely weekend :) xxx

Hi, Pompom, my friend,
Enjoy your nice cup of tea from that wonderful Brown Betty teapot!! I, too, have to have my quiet time. That is how I replenish my spirit. I am so glad you are enjoying your students. I am back to my tutoring job at the school I retired from. I love the children and hopefully, I am helping them with their studies. I especially love to help them with their reading. I want them so badly to love quality children's literature. I choose books that I love and in turn, my enthusiasm seems to be rubbing off on them!! Have the best of weekends and enjoy those sweet grandchildren. Vicki

That's wonderful! I bet there are a lot more readers in the world because of you, Vicki!

Well, all this replying business is going to keep you extra busy Pom! Sometimes the rest part for me is simply doing what I can & not doing it all & trying not to stress about not replying to everyone I'd like too even though I'm thinking about them & liking them : ) But then I'm the same with conversations in person..1/2 an hour, cup of tea & off I go, is perfect! I think I may also have butterfly genes. Your Brown Betty is very shiny still! What a thoughtful gift. I'm so glad that Lizzy is doing well. Snow!! that is most peculiar..it seems that you have just been eating watermelon!! I have just sent Fynn some of those...watermelon seeds. My they are expensive. Might pay to keep some seeds myself for next time. Much love GK x0x0x0x

Oh, Catherine. You're so funny "thinking about them and liking them". I know just what you mean! Yes, our weather here in Colorado is wacky. We're to have warmer days this weekend. Much love back to you!

Another sweet post from your snowy side of the mountain. Today we are cleaning up leaves and cutting down mums.

I will look for the new feature on Blogger regarding comments...did not know about that.

I love making tea in tea pots. That way you can pour yourself another cup or share with a friend or loved one. I, too, must have my little dose of quiet. I especially like to walk for my quiet fix.

Your sleep-over time sounds so fun. It reminds me of the day that my two Littles were here. They got a gob of pillows out and piled them under the skylight so we could watch the clouds go by on a cold day. Smart kids, aren't they? So glad Lizzy is doing so well.

Happy Fall!

Pom Pom said...

Hi Nancy! Bill's outside blowing the leaves into piles! There is still snow around, though! Yay for Colorado weather!

Hi Jody! Smart kids, indeed! There's nothing like a house nest for dreaming and planning!
Thank you for your kind words. I got to hold Miss Lizzy last night. She is a lamb!

POm POm I am LOVING your illustrations! Love that header. So sweet. Teapots for me are a ritual...when in a hurry I'm a teabag in a mug chick. When relaxing with friends or a book, out the teapot must come.

What a happy post! I always feel so uplifted when I visit you. And by the way, I am blessed with children encounters in my life too. I teach Children's Church on Sundays (today!), and I'm volunteering in the kindergarten class and subbing in elementary school again this year. Children keep me feeling young.

I wanted to thank you for stopping by my blog and letting me know what you do with your long winter evenings. I like your idea best of all, going to bed early and getting up early. I'm a morning person too and can get three times as much work done in the morning as I can in the evenings. I started with my new plan this morning. I was up by 5:30 a.m. (on a Sunday)! Wishing you a blessed Sunday, my friend. ~ Sherry

Pom Pom said...

Thanks, Sherry! Whenever I sign up for an evening commitment, I ask myself WHAT was I thinking? I like quiet evenings at home where the flannel sheets beckon! You're right when you say children keep us young (and humble!) It's a privilege to be in the presence of youth!
I hope you have a fantastic fall. Don't you love thinking about Thanksgiving!

Pom Pom said...

Well said, Mrs. Bok! The teapot slows me down to just the right pace! I shall have a pot of tea today and finish up a sweater! My header is a Grandma Moses painting. I've always been fascinated with her artwork! Thank you for visiting!

P.S.
Dear, sweet Pom Pom, will you please tell me how to add the "Reply" feature to my blog? I've been on a search for instructions since reading your post. I followed the instructions I found for going into the HTML code and changing it that way but it didn't work for me. Any help would greatly appreciated!

Sherry, go to settings/comments/comment placement/html
That should do it! Yay!

Oh, yay! I just learned from my publisher that they are repackaging three of my early books--Dovey Coe, Where I'd Like to Be, and Chicken Boy. I can't wait to see how they look. I like that boy holding a chicken on the cover of CB, so will probably miss him, but they want the books updated for the readers of today.

By the way, if you ever wanted me to Skype with your students, we could do that. Just let me know! xofrances
