Gardens, Books, Bunting, and Bunnies

What's the story, Morning Glory?  What's the word, Hummingbird?  Would you like pink?  Purple?  Both?

Feel free to hide in the hollyhocks.
I'm sorry, but Pie Face is feeling a bit shy today.

Reaching for the sun and sky!
Here it is, August 19!  I cut out the buntings for my classroom.  I already have bunting hanging all over, but these are for the window and my desk.

Now, I have had Beatrix on the brain lately.  Birdie has the book below, A Visual Guide to the World of Beatrix Potter.  I love it!  I borrowed it last night after we babysat the girls for a few hours.  Earlier we had looked through it slowly, savoring all the newsy information and relishing the pictures.  I couldn't sleep last night because I was thinking of all things BP.  I got up and feasted on it again.  One delightful page in the book mentioned that Beatrix's characters are always busy.

  • they raise children
  • they do housework
  • they take in laundry
  • they sell produce
  • they work as gardeners
  • they cook
  • they work as gamekeepers
Aren't those delightful ways to work?
My mama sent me the tea cups, saucers, and spoons she and my sister used for the tea party at Guemes Island.  I gathered my precious BP things and took a photograph for you.

Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle is my favorite.  We both iron.  I must make myself a blue and yellow striped skirt.  It looks so nice on her.

Tomorrow the students arrive.
I will be back to let you know that the first day of school came and went.
Thank you for looking in on me today!
I wish you gardens, books, and bunnies.

I love all of your Beatrix Potter things. I just love to read her books and Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle has always been my favorite too.
Your flowers are so pretty. I gathered seeds for a little while today. Lots and lots of dreams for next year. :)
I will be thinking of you and I am looking forward to seeing how your day went.

Lovely morning glories - in the UK we only get white ones. I love the way they open and shut - you could tell the time by them almost! As a child I would spend ages trying to open them without damaging them. I love Beatrix Potter's stories and illustrations so much, I would love a nightee with the characters printed on!

Good luck tomorrow! I don't go back until Sept. 4th. I need to go into my classroom this week and get it ready since we are on vacation next week.

My mom always grew morning glories all over the split rail fence in their front yard. These remind me of hers! I'm very fond of hollyhocks; especially the old-fashioned single blossoms. I would love to hide among them!

Your BP collection is so gorgeous. You've given me BP fever! I'm going in search of some of those books. Maybe through the library.
I just love to learn about the details of her eccentric life and her little characters.

Have a great first day of school! I still have a week to work before mine begins, but I think my nursing instructors may be sending some early emails. Those kids will LOVE you! :D And you'll love them right back! Don't forget to celebrate with a good cup of tea when you get back home!

Good luck on your first day back. The kids will be glad to have you as their teacher. Lucky little ones, they are. I love B Potter. You know can visit her home in Grasmere, England? My first grandson's nursery was Peter Rabbit. We had such fun putting it together. No wonder you couldn't sleep.

Love, love, love your morning glory! And sunflowers of course. Mrs Tiggy Winkle has long been my fav...ever since I was a little girl...I must have ben really little say 5 because I was traveling with my mother & father & we spotted a hedgehog on the roadside, Dad pulled over to show me & the wheel fell off the trailer...oh how funny I haven't thought of that in forever. Then when we were newly wed (titter sounds silly) Rob gave me an old washing basket, some folded linen & a few wooden clothespins for Christmas...wasn't that sweet! Well done for finding the bunting creativity spurt. Much love GK x0x0x0x

Your morning glories are so beautiful. Mine are just barely up and not blooming yet. I hope they will pour it on and get growing before the cold comes.

Love the Beatrix Potter goodies. I have always loved her and read all those lovely stories to the kids so they have a love and appreciation for her books too. I like Bird's book. I might have to look for that one. I have the biography about her. Quite interesting tho I didn't finish it.

Happy first days of school! I know you'll make them merry and bright.

What a delightful post! I never really read Beatrix Potter books until after the movie 'Miss Potter' (which I love) came out. I feel so bad that I didn't share her with my daughters when they were young. I was fortunate to find a collection of her books at a thrift store, and have them for my grandson, so he won't miss out! The book you mentioned sounds lovely. I will have to look for it. And love all your BP things too! All of your flowers are so beautiful!!

I wish the very best for your first day back teaching! My daughter and SIL start today too. Love the bunting! Have a fabulous day!! :)

I do love Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle and ironing too.

That is a fun quote by Alcott on the calendar; do you know what book it comes from?

Do you mind if I hang out amongst your flowers while you are welcoming your new students? It is so beautiful among the morning glories and sunflowers.
I just know that your classroom looks colorful and charming. Lucky students. It's going to be a good year for them.
Your BP collection is lovely. I enjoyed checking it out.

I think I like Peter the best though, he is cheeky and determined and brave and oh-so-cute. You have also put my Hollyhocks to shame. I planted a whole punnet of them and only 2 remain ! lol Enjoy being back at school. Your students must love your sense of fun and creativity x
