Bright Little Tea Things

Yesterday a friend and I visited a tea shop.  It was VERY quiet and the scones were delicious.

Doesn't it look pretty?  The truffle was a bit chocolatey and over the top, but I ate it anyway.
Our oldest son called last night and wanted to talk about tea even though he didn't know I'd been out imbibing on tea and treats.  He purchased Tetley Tea and he wanted to tell me. He also reminded me of some of the teas I bought when he lived at home.  I'd forgotten about some of those tasty drinks!  Lynn sent me some PG Tips tea and it is so far my favorite.
So with tea things on my mind, I washed my little doll dishes.

I did it for you, so we could look at some lovely photographs.  Now, I must put it all away.
 Coffee instead?
I'm having one of those days when I don't quite know what I want to do.  Judging by my appearance in the mirror, I'm really tired.  If you are a mother you may remember a few trying times when your children were aimless and downright naughty.  My mother always says, "Don't let your children get too tired or too hungry.  You'll pay."  Well, I have little patience with myself when I'm feeling restless and I forget that maybe I'm tired.  Tiredness doesn't have to make sense, does it?  If we had adequate sleep during the night and we've exercised regularly, we shouldn't be tired, right?  Wrong.  Sometimes our sleepiness is not predictable.  So I am going to flop on the couch and read some Elizabeth Goudge, thank you!
I never run out of things to show you.  I'm glad!  I found three new-to-me illustrations that I'd like to share.
This is a lovely pipe smoking bunny by Garth Williams.
One of my very favorite artists: Lisbeth Zwerger.
This illustration is by Rob Hefferan.  He also illustrated one of my favorite renditions of The Three Bears.
I hope your summer days hold a bit of rest.  If I was your mother and I saw that you looked a little care-worn and limp, I'd say, "YOU are having a nap.  I'll make sure it's quiet and when you wake up, there will be tea and treats."
I'm glad you called in today!

Your visit to the tea room looks lovely. The forget me not plate and tea cup are so pretty.
How sweet of you to take pictures of your cute tea things for us.
Enjoy your rest. After Granny Camp it is understandable why you might be tired.

I am a strong believer in naps--at any age. You have quite a collection of tiny tea sets You surely must have tea with the little ones. The summer is rushing by. Given the frantic pace we keep during the school year, we deserve to lie on the sofa and just read--or sleep. Enjoy.

How lovely - tea at the beginning of your post, and tea at the end. I do hope you've been having a restful day. I am so glad of the ability to realise how I feel, and monitor my behaviour accordingly. It may sound silly, but it honestly took me years to do that. You sound like you have it sorted! Thanks for your prayers about my camera. Sometimes when I really can't find something it seems to me that God is keeping it from me until I pay proper attention to something he is trying to tell me. It seems to be his way of getting my attention. I must be really deaf this week, and should start attending right away...

Well....I'm glad I came to visit today as I just woke up from a lovely afternoon nap, and I just put a small batch of scones (we call them biscuits here in ranch country) in the oven for hubby and I to enjoy with coffee or tea. I'm making myself tea today. I'm serving the scones with strawberry jam and whipped cream. I can't wait. Haven't made this treat in far too long.

I loved seeing your doll dishes. How fun. I like English Breakfast or Irish Breakfast teas -- strong.

I've used Bigelow and Twinnings Teas. I like black teas, not so much fruity/herb teas.

I do hope you get a nice long nap. I am having one of those days today as well. When I get tired I have no patience. I wanted to sew, but I couldn't sit still. I found I was pacing and decided I need a nap too.
I love all of your little dishes. I only have one little set with Red Riding Hood on it. They are metal and have baby teeth marks on them from babies chewing on them now.
I love the Garth Williams Illustration. It is my favorite as I always loved how he made the pencil marks that made his art look fuzzy and warm.
Rest, you have been very busy since school got out.

I like the smoking bunny, I like tea parties - we drink a lot of teat here - is it hard to get Tetley's in the USA? We like Typhoo Tea too.

What a beautiful postful of tea!! Did you know that Jody also posted about a British cream tea today? Great minds :) I love the illustration of the pipe-smoking bunny. He's relaxed and gentlemanly. Rest, Pom!! Some days we are inexplicably tired, aren't we?

What a fun outing! That sweet blue plate with little flowers is so cute. I have tried making them but I need more practice. I have a little tea set tucked away in the attic somewhere that belonged to my grandma. I remember having "tea" with my dog using that set. :D

How wise of you, Pom Pom, to rest and read Elizabeth Goudge. I love her books especially 'Blue Hills'. Her writings bring balm for one's spirit.

You're right. Sometimes there isn't a good reason for our being tired, we think. But we don't have to find a reason or justify it. Just go have a lie down. I love that phrase 'lie down'. It's so very British.

Your little dishes are precious! I'll bet you had a good time washing them all. I have a bunch, too but don't think about having tea parties with my grandsons. I bet they'd love it though.

I sure enjoyed seeing your fancy tea party including that over-the-top chocolate truffle! The dolly dishes are so cute! I have a small set sitting on my shelf waiting for Audrey to be old enough to use them. I may have to collect some more now that I've seen all the colorful possibilities! Thanks for another wonderful post. BTW, I love your mother's advice. I'll pass that on to my daughter as she begins raising her family! :D Rest up and have your tea and treats!

Your tea sets are adorable...so like my sister-in-law. You are a very seasoned tea drinker. I am an ice tea drinker mainly...and no, not like most Texas tea drinkers, I don't like my sugar with a little tea. I have always added flavors to my Ice Tea...and grew up having tea for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

My hot tea is Chai tea...so you are definitely the one to tell how to make tea

Love, your illustrations...and curling up with a books sounds great.

It is always so fun to read your blog because you write well and your photograph just as brilliantly. Those little tea cups make me think that the Borrowers will have a nice little party while you are out reading or asleep. Sweet!!

Will look up your author Elizabeth Goudge, too.

Hello again Pom Pom, and thanks for your question. Well, of course the French vary, and there are some women at the school gate who clearly comfort eat a bit... But in general, a body only needs to eat between meals if it has become accustomed to do so - I know this is true, because it's one of the things (after 7 years) that I've nearly cracked! Children have four meals - breakfast, three-course lunch, late afternoon snack (le gouter) and three-course evening meal. Adults are expected to go down to the three, and usually do. It's hard to buy a snack here! And it is good for us, no doubt about it. And I haven't found the camera yet. I think I may phone the recycling centre on Monday, to see if it fell into my recycling bag... Ben thinks I should just visit the sales!

I don't want to look at them Pom I'd like to play please! Tea is fascinating stuff. I have had many indepth conversations with youngest tea connissouer?? son. He drinks huge volumes of Chinese tea & loves to share it with others. Tea is nice to share isn't it : )
I love all your colours! I bought those colours in pens this week..they were new, write like biro but are actually felts...I love them. Good for doodling & journaling. Naps really are terribly important & useful. They are restorative! Funny how we sometimes have to be given permission to nap. I 'm glad that you are taking them while they are available. Thank you for loving books too!! Love & hugs to you. Catherine x0x0x
