School Shoes and Scones

I bought my school shoes.  I ordered blue first, but the right shoe was very tight.  I thought it was MY foot, so I looked at them for a while.  I kept trying them on.  Finally, Kelli tried them on and confirmed that one was just right, one VERY tight.  Back they went to the local store and because they didn't have blue in my size . . . GREEN.  I love green this year so I'm happy to wear parrot colored shoes instead.
Last night, Bill and Jeff went to the ape movie.  I stayed home to sew pockets.  In the second edition of Mollie Makes, there are pocket patterns.  I love the pockets!  The skirt I am sewing is already too small.  I'll finish it and save it for leaner days!  When Jeff saw the skirt, his eyebrows rose.  "It looks a bit Pom Pom-ish?"  His reply, "Yes, VERY Pom Pom-ish."  Oh well, the pockets are a bit clownish and I do gravitate toward clown apparel.

Yesterday, whilst on my walk (yes, I waited until the last week before school starts to begin my long walks) I walked by one of my favorite houses.  Isn't it bold to build a log cabin in the middle of a bunch of fancy-shmancy homes?  I love this cozy abode.  Really, it's in one of the expensive neighborhoods and it's such a breath of fresh air.

Susan Branch did a post on dishtowels and she said something very interesting.  She said, "so the minute I figured out what things made me happiest . . . " I truly believe that God is pleased when we find our own beauty.  Whether it is clowny pockets, a big bowl of gummy worms, a stack of favorite books, baskets overflowing with yarn, cupcakes, or green shoes, He isn't absent from the details.  What makes you happiest?  In a small detail-y sense, I mean.
One day, quite some time ago, I created a lovely little lunch for myself.  I can't find this scone mix anymore and I'm taking a small break from baked goods, but isn't this happy?
This is a breakfast I had in Sydney, down by the harbor, over a year ago when we were blessed to visit Australia.  Oh, it was delicious.  Do you love all that whipped cream?

I am off to visit my classroom this morning and survey all the unpacking I must do.  After that, I am going over to the Princess House and taking Birdie to our house so Kelli can nap while Miss Bug and Millie Rose nap.  Then Birdie will have dinner with us, play, and we'll go back to her house for a slumber party.  We were going to slumber here but Jeff has two house guests arriving tonight.  So, I shall sleep in the trundle bed and Bill says I am like Granny Wendy and I should make a night time fort to read stories in before we sleep.  We'll see how old Granny Wendy's joints feel when bedtime rolls around.
I'm sad about going back to school.  I'm sure when the kids are in the classroom, with their nervous little faces and their new school supplies, I'll feel joyful.  Right now I want to sit in a teepee and knit or read.  I think I will feel better if I make Finn's birthday cupcakes, don't you?

I love your style! It's so not me but it makes me happy just to see it.

I think that you are a gifted teacher. I don't need to know any more than the fact that bright colors and clownish apparel (and gummy worms) make you happy to know that you are a treasure to those kids!!

My post today gives a pretty good example of what makes me happy! I think if Pom Pom got a hold of it it would be adorned with bright, high gloss paint and trimmings... and it would make me happy just to look at it! :)

Blessings, Debbie

Your loafers are so pretty! I might order myself a pair... you would recommend ordering a size up though?

I love your shoes, they look so comfy, PomPom, a beautiful, fun colour ... the pockets are pretty I saw the pattern Mollie Makes but didn't feel I could do it - I think you have made them beautifully. Yes, I think you are right, God is pleased when he sees us enjoying the things he lays out for us - yesterday for me it was my lovely book find and for a surprise free cold drinks being handed out in the town centre when we were very thirsty! Whenever I see something pretty or unexpected I always say 'thanks, God - that's a nice surprise'! Look forward to reading about the newbies at school soon, Bettyx

I love the pockets. Happy things - a bowl of polished fruit, a vase of tulips, neatly paired socks, a classroom of smiling children...

oh and shoes - in my case, new pink running shoes

I Love scones! Let's have scones and tea! I think it's funny that you have a "Munchkin" spoon in your coffee.:) Have a fun sleepover! I was talking to the hairdresser who cut my hair, yesterday, and it reminded me how wonderful you are! She has 5 boys and feels like an imposition in her daughter-in-law's lives, and I just want you to know how wonderful I think you are, as a MomPom and Granny. You are Grrrreat! The Lord blessed me when he gave me such a wonderful mother and father-in-law.

I'd make the cup cakes. Pretty colored ones like your school shoes and you cute little pockets. I visited my office at the university. I need to clean it. I need to have my husband move my desk. I need finish syllabi. I need to read Lysistrata. Are we done talking about going back to school? No. we are just getting started. Such cute little granddaughters. Lucky to have grandma look after them.

Is it already time to go back to school??? Scary!!!
I've started taking long walks too since 2 weeks, but each evening it's so sad to notice that Summer is ending, the air is fresher and the dark comes so early!
Happy weekend x

I know what you mean about feeling like sitting in a teepee and knitting or reading. I'm such homebody and every moment at home is precious. You will be such a blessing to those kiddos. As long as they have to go to school they are very blessed to have such a wonderful and creative teacher. You're the teacher they'll remember when they're all grown up! Baking cupcakes will always make you feel better! :)

Cute shoes! Are they comfy, too? If so they are perfect. I love your bright, cheery style. Hope you have a good night's sleep! I'm taking a break from baked goods, too, and it is the saddest thing ever because they are ever so good. Sigh. =P

What cheerful shoes. I am sure they will make every day feel better. I had an english teacher at school that always had shoes that coordinated with her outfits. We were thought that was so cool.

Yes, you will feel better for cupcakes, and yes, being in the classroom is never as bad as thinking about being in the classroom- but I think it's alright that teachers feel a sense of heaviness at this time of the year. It's such a spending occupation- spending time, energy, thought, preparation, stress, worry on so many differnt needs and abilities- like juggling all the time. So it's very appropriate that you have your clown pockets- you'll have somewhere to keep safe the balls that fall until the next time!

Hello Pom Pom dearest..I am so loving Ann right here looking into the camera with that silly quizzical look on her face & little Johanna in motion & full of delight. How lovely to be so "coloured in" in who you are that you are happily distinctive..Pom Pom-ish in fact. How marvelous for children to be hanging out with the best possible role model ever..although I don't imagine that they call you Pom Pom in the classroom? ; ) Much love Catherine X0X0

What fun shoes!! I think you'll enjoy them all year long. And you know, shoes like that don't really have to be "matchy matchy" with a particular outfit. They match you personal style, and that means they'll always work!
What makes me happy? Of your list, the basket of yarn. I don't know why. What will I make with it? Don't know yet, but it's a basket of potential enjoyment and beauty. Also the scones, of course. Yum. Your grands are precious.

Everything about this lovely post is very PomPomish, and it sure made me happy to be here!!! Now, if you tire of those shoes....yep, love that color! One of my favorite things about the starting of school.....SCHOOL SUPPLIES and even though I don't teach or go to school anymore I still like shopping for new school stuff. Hope your school days to come are filled with good times, happy faces and a new stash of markers!

I love cupcakes. I like sprinkles on them too, and I like scones with whipped cream and strawberry jam.

Your green shoes are very cute -- I like moccasins.

It hardly seems fair that you should be going back to school already, but I know how much you will mean to those sweet 6th graders when they get to know you. THANK YOU for giving yourself and your love of books and reading and words to them. I know they will be blessed with you as Teacher.

Jody

P.S. I like the house too -- secluded and earthy.

Oh my goodness I'm so glad I'm not the only one sad to start school, like you I'll be glad once the kiddos are back but for now I really want to stay home and go to bed late and wake up late, I'm having such a hard time going to bed early and getting up in time the next day. Love you green shoes I'm sure the kiddos will love them too. =)
