Peace

Do you make a big deal out of things that maybe ARE NOT a big deal? I do. I'm having dinner guests on Wednesday and I've been THINKING about all the things I WAS GOING to do to get ready for their visit, but I am stuck in neutral and can't seem to figure out what to do first. So, I'm not doing anything. Instead, I'm playing around on the "Interwebs" and snacking. I sent Santa an email with a nice list of books I'd like because I have Beatrix Potter on the brain. I've read the Gladys Taber books so much that they are starting to repeat themselves. I've written a few cards. I filled the bird feeder, washed a quilt and hung it on the line, had a little more cheese, went to the grocery store with Kelli, ordered the The Divine Hours by Phyllis Tickle for my Kindle. Bill suggested that. I'm going to start there. Reading the hourly meditations will take me out of myself and into the space I really want to be. I'll keep you posted.
I'll also continue to dabble in The Wind in the Willows. It's a cozy place to visit.

I'll gaze at illustrations like this one.

I'll keep the jolly postman in mind and maybe I'll finish the cards I'm working on.

I might buy more greens, candles, and poinsettias for the house, even if I don't dust.

I'll pop over to Susanbranch.com for a little inspiration.

I'll keep snacking.

I'll keep remembering that Birdie, Bug, and Sam are coming over Wednesday evening, too. It'll be such a wild rumpus that cleaning really should not be my fixation. And guess who else is coming?

This peaceful one. She gets it. Yes, Millie. Show us how to be still. Show us how to trust. Show us what THE BABY looked like when He burst into the world, held by a girl who was the same age as my students.

Rest. Rest your soul. Heavenly peace.

I do the same thing when a big event is coming on. I'll piddle along; anything to avoid what I need to be doing. Then when I know I won't get things done if I don't get a move on, I'll kick it in high gear and do a cleaning/cooking blitz and finish in record time.

I'm doing it now! Instead of reading blogs, I should be making a grocery list. Think I'll go read some more in The Children's Book by A.S. Byatt and take a nap first. (Giggle)

Pom Pom,
You are right, lil Millie has got the peaceful bliss we all crave. Take your time, enjoy preparing a special meal for loved ones and friends and remember, the most important thing is not what's on the table, but who is on the chairs.

Happy Preparation!

I love your list of what you are doing and not doing. I always forget that when family shows up, everyone is so busy talking, no one has time to notice all the little things I forgot to dust or put away or clean. Somehow the family takes over, the old stories of who did what back when start getting passed around, lots of laughter gets shared, someone always has the TV on, people bring more food than anyone could ever eat, and somehow it all works out in spite of my two weeks of worrying ahead of time. Why can't I ever remember that from year to year? Thanks for the reminder! Family and love and the peace that we all hope for on this earth are the important things. Thank you for bringing us these things every time you write a post. Bless you a thousand times over!! xo Kari

Hello dear Pom Pom, such a beautiful thought pongering post always. Well, I cannot think of a nicer book to read and cosy into than Wind in the Willows. I love to read that. I just read it again recently and I have several copies of it so that I can cut words from it! Now dear! Listen! They are coming to see you ... not to run their fingers through your dust! A poinsettia or two will distrac them :o)

Lots of love
from me xx

Oh Pom Pom...no one cares about the dust...or perfect meals....they care about YOU and your sweet family. Learn from precious Millie indeed. I had a six hour sit with Jesus today and it was wonderful. After I listened, read, reflected on him and listened to him talk to me...the world started to move...and it appears I am going back to Ethiopia in February for two more weeks. Millie is listening to Jesus...HE is filling her memory banks. I love you. Merry Christmas,
Kristi

Now you've got me thinking! This jolly postman...I know him, but I can't remember the book! It's been a long time, but I remember it was such a good book. One I read to my little ones! Name, please?

Ah, The Wind in the Willows! One of my favorites, and the illustrations are magical!

I ordered a copy of a devotional by Billy Graham from Booksneeze and I look forward to some good meditations.

I know I've learned over the years that I'm not in control of hardly anything, so I have to let go and let God handle things. I do what I can and tell worrying to take a vacation! Keep it casual and enjoy your guests! (Preaching to myself, again!) ;-)

Oh Sweetie...
What a beautiful share this morning. You have it all together. Taking a little relaxation and time for yourself. Sometimes we get so busy into the holiday season we forget to take time for US. Oh I am right there with you girl. Lots to get done today, but I am taking it easy and enjoying a hot chocolate (peppermint stick to stir) and reading a few blog posts. Love it.

Your books look so wonderful. Look at this little tike. Oh from an infant to "I can't wait for Santa to come." How fun. We have 8 grands and they will all be here for Christmas. Yippppeeee...

Have a gorgeous day sweet one. May God richly bless you and your family this wonderful CHRISTmas season. Many hugs and much love, Sherry

I'm reading Wind in the Willows too! It's such a descriptive filled book. I'm not too far in yet, so I have no idea how the story plays out, but right now, I would love to be Mole enjoying sunshine and a boat ride. Millie has the right idea for sure!

Blessings, my friend!
Deborah
