Outside Glory

"Own only what you can always carry with you: know languages, know countries, know people. Let your memory be your travel bag." Alexander Solzhenitsyn

"I have stretched ropes from steeple to steeple; garlands from window to window; golden chains from star to star, and I
dance." Arthur Rimbaud (French Poet)

Remember Sunflower Houses? Well, I like Hollyhock Days, too!

Sharon Lovejoy is a flowery writer and the watercolors in this book are VERY sweet. You can read Sharon's blog, too! It's full of nature and growth!

Hollyhocks are so simple, aren't they? Some people think the are unsophisticated. Isn't that a good thing?

Hello up there!

"There is nothing you can see that is not a flower; there is nothing you can think that is not the moon. " Matsuo Basho

I'm calling Jody over at Gumbo Lily, my moon sister. She writes about the moon. She lives on the prairie and she regularly looks up and feels very small. Isn't that poetic and WONDERFUL? I've said it before but I can understand why wolves howl at the moon. They must be saying, "YOU are beautiful, our own round rock that glows and changes, entertaining us over and over again!" Well, maybe THAT would be quite a long howl, but just the same, the moon IS lovely, isn't it? So, now I am going upstairs to look out my window, to check on the moon. I hope it will shine on me while I sleep. I graded my brains out today and I am ready to snooooooooooooooze.
Have a rollicking week, friend! I think you should have a scone and a little squirt of whipped cream. And you know those waxy (but tasty!) little pumpkin candies featured in the Halloween aisle at the grocery store? Yes, I think we need some of those. Do you need to find yourself a BIG basket of mums? I did buy a squash today. I don't know how to bake it and eat it, but I'm going to try. Night night.

I LOVE those candy pumpkins. My son-in-law loves them too. I always buy him a bag around this time of year. Brownie points, you know?

Have a great week in school. I'll be thinking about and praying for you.

Moon sisters! OK! The moon is up high in the afternoon and has been setting early these past few nights. I hope you saw it before it set. Did you "get small?"

We had biscuits (scones) with our stew this weekend. Yum!

Happy week to you, Pom Pom.

Enjoy your squash Pom Pom - baked with garlic, tomato, onion and peppers and then cheese on top is naughty but nice :)
I think I'm crazy - no I know I am - but I keep on laughing at the quote "Own only what you can carry" I think it's cos we cleared the garage at the weekend and we still have tons left to get rid off and I keep visualising me travelling and trying to carry 5 lengths of 2x2 timber, 6 opened tins of paint, an old pallette, a set of ladders, the lawn mower (though that's ride on so that could be useful!!) a table tennis table....... the list goes disgracefully on and I shouldn't be finding this amusing , sorry but I just do :)Thanks!

Hi Pom Pom, if it's a butternut squash, it is lovely sliced in half and the centre filled with olive oil and garlic, wrapped in foil and baked in the oven, some pine nut and green salad to serve. xxx

I've only successfully grown hollyhocks once and they were the most beautiful, delicate, intricate and incredibly lovely and feminine flower I have ever grown.

Have a blessed week, Pom Pom!

I love love love this- it is an archetypal Pom Pom post! We get toffee apples appearing in the little fruit and veg shop soon- a hard temptation to resist! I bought one most days after school when I was pregnant with Mattman- and he loves pumpkin time as much as me!! No idea on the squash front- could you dip it in toffee and put it on a stick?

Your pictures are beautiful!! I hope you had good luck with your squash. I like to bake mine with apples and honey.

Yes, I did get squash today...out of our Family Garden. It's going to be sooooo wonderful in HiHoney's Grannies Squash Casserole...remember that from SuKnitWitty? I went to buy MUMS, but they were all gone, so I'll have to wait for the next shipment...hope it's soon...Mums always put in the Fall MummyMood!

Oooh! I love it when you do quotes! I especially love the Basho quote. "There is nothing you can think that is not the moon." That may be my new favorite quote. Thanks!

I love that quote: "There is nothing you can think that is not the moon." It makes me realize that all my thoughts come from the moon and the stars, the flowers, the trees. I think that planets are in fact cooled pieces of stars, so we are stardust then. Such thoughts make me want to spin into my own orbit and create. I hope your classroom is settling down a little, for I am sure that a sprinkling of Pom Pom stardust is very powerful indeed! xo Kari
