Hello Sunshine!

Hello, Sunshine! It's nice to see that sweet pie-face of yours! Welcome!
Reve is simplifying and emptying her house, and I am happy to transfer her old books over here to my house! YUM! I know you guys like to look at books . . .

She also gave me this rosemary tree. It smells rich and heady. I planted lavender, thyme and soon . . . I'll plant this in the side garden. Pray it takes because this garden is rocky, dry and maybe NOT fertile.

I've been sewing. Well, hemming. Jenny and Samantha are in a wedding this weekend. Oh, was it EVER a long way around this dress! I am a bit embarrassed to admit this, but I don't really get a big charge out of going to weddings and we have been to sooooooo many weddings over the years. We have two weddings coming up. Argh. What to wear? I don't like dress up clothes and I certainly don't like big girl SHOES!

On a bouncy note: BRAD came down yesterday to meet with his mentor. He stops over at our house to visit and it's SO FUN! We had a nice long chat on the patio (I was still in my pajamas - oooops!) and then he went to lunch with good Jeff, Bryan (our super star son-in-law) and returned after that for more coffee and talk. I love talking to him. He has such a grasp of history and literature. I learn so much from him. I love to hear him speak of Dickens, Joyce, the French Revolution - how on EARTH did he get so dang smart? Oh and a side note to maggs: I gave him Gilead. I can't wait to hear what he thinks!

Brad above and Brad and Bryan below. Jeff is a bit camera shy!

Oh, you mamas with boys and girls at home, they grow up and become the truest, most faithful, interesting friends. Bill and our four kids = my favorites.

love that sunflower shot~!
sometimes herbs actually prefer soil that is not so fertile so your rosemary may still do fine.

so nice to read about your happiness with your grown up kids. my experience has been the same; i have a daughter who takes my breath away every time we are in contact. i feel blessed and privliged to have been her mother.

Sometimes when my kids are driving me nuts, I remember what an awful child I was (run of the mill awful, and during adolescence very sullen and withdrawn). Now my mom and I get along famously and have loads of fun talking about quilting. It gives me faith that my children, too, will redeem themselves!

We have rosemary growing by our mailbox, a huge plant, and one of the lovely things during the summer is collecting the mail and smelling that good rosemary smell. A daily treat.

I loved Gilead. I'm working up my nerve to read some of Robinson's nonfiction, but I fear she's too smart for me!

Pom Pom, my hubby says, keep your rosemary fairly well-watered til it strikes out roots and it will be fine. Your soil conditions are perfect for rosemary as they love it dry! :)

LOVED this sweet post about your grown-up kids...I feel the same way about ours...it is wonderful! :)

Hi Dearest, yes, I know, I'm sorry. I'm just having the most hectic time in the nicest possible way, of course. Everything is fine my end just not enough hours in the day for EVERYTHING! I love your post. I love your flowers and your books and your home and your family and the lovely way you talk about them. You are blessed indeed Pom Pom. I've missed my visits here too and soon, very soon, I will be able to visit more ofted. Two more weeks to go of busy, busy, busy and then some normal time. Looking forward to that!

Sending lots of love xoxoxoxo

I love Rosemary - she is such a tough girl - doesn't mind bad soil and still smells lovely :)
I love your writing Pom Pom.
Your family look and sound such sunshiney folks.

What beautiful dresses for the wedding. I like red! But the hemming. THAT is tedious work, isn't it? As for you, how about a nice, cool, cotton floral dress and flip-flops or ballet shoes?

In the book pile I saw a Garrison Keillor. He always makes me laugh.

The rosemary will like a sandy-gravelly soil. It looks so healthy. I love it chopped over beef roasts and beef stews. Mmmm.

The *boys* look like jolly good friends. I know that my grown kids are such a blessing in my life. I wouldn't trade 'em.

Your sunflowers are so beautiful! I love the photos of your beautiful family. It encourages me to know that the children I enjoy so much now will grow up to be adults that I will enjoy too!

Blessings!

I enjoy hearing about your visits with your children. I look forward to that. Even now our almost 21 year old will come sit with us when he gets home in the evening and talk. I love that.

I spied The Poisenwood Bible. Loved that book. Barbara Kingsolver is one of my favorite modern authors. I don't always agree with her, but that isn't necessary for me to like her. :)

Life would be much less enjoyable without rosemary. I have two bushes and should try to root another. I love it especially on pork and roasted potatoes. Mmmmmm.

lovely to have old books, I was thinking of a beautiful book with colour plates of 'the water babies' my grandmother kept for me as a child when I was at her house - no idea what happened to it - probably would be very valuable these days! Happy memories popped into my head from your post here!
