Making Swimsuits

Frances over at Left-Handed Housewife brought up THE subject: the swimsuit. I thought about swimsuits yesterday and all day when my mind bobbed back to it, I wondered if I could sew myself a snazzy swimsuit. I plan on floating around in Birdie and Bug's neighborhood pool this summer, and I need a nice, substantial, BRIGHT, swim DRESS to hold me together while I play. Why can't someone design a suit that does its job and looks happy? It really is a shame that I can't draw to my satisfaction, but I came up with a few ideas. If YOU can draw some cute swimsuits, will you email the pictures to me? I'll send a summer box to the favorite design. Try it! Send the photos to pompomclwn@aol.com.
My mother made me a bikini out of blue calico fabric when I was a senior in high school. I really appreciated her helping me out with the swimsuit conundrum. It was cute and it covered well on both top and bottom. I can't wait to see if any of you can design a good suit. Think of the possibilities! Lots of spandex underneath to provide tight security and some flowery ruffles and feminine necklines? Skirts?

This morning, I tromped through the dew with my camera. My darling neighbor was out in her pajamas, too. She's a teacher and we're both doing the countdown dance and longing for our homey summers. Look at her blooms!

She gave me a stem and I shall take it to school today. The kids will love it, I know. I took one to school another year and they were fascinated.
I hope you have a smooth, relaxed, soulful day today. I hope you see some people who pay attention to your goodness and I hope you look forward to a swimsuit summer filled with splashes and sun dried warmth. Delicious.

Ack -- swimsuits! I think they should bring back those turn of the century (20th ;-) swimming dresses with the matching hats. Wouldn't that be nice? Wouldn't have to always be worrying that something was popping out somewhere ;-).

Ps! You know how the d and the f are neighbours on the keyboard?? Well, I discovered their switching of roles in the nick of time, or I might actually have posted you as "dairy-grandmother-queen". That's what I'M planning on being, you see, when I'm ninety tree and still head over heels in love with the most wonderful dairy-grandfather-king in the world =) think you know who =) =)

LOVE to you, my friend!!

I like your swimsuit drawings very much!! I made my first two children swimsuits when they were 3 & 1 and they were cute! I saw some darling suits over at Angry Chicken. Amy made her three lil girls suits and OH BOY are they adorable! Go see them at this link:

Your neighbor's flowers are lovely. I have a few alium (Dr. Seuss flowers is what I call them) in my garden flower beds too. I love how your neighbor has them scattered throughout.

Oh Pom I am always so glad to bump into you in the hallway between worlds, but tonight more than ever! I am NOT doing well on the marking front- are you really nearly finished?! New rule is to follow your William Blake advice and sleep in the night, so I'm on my way with tea (and Wolf Hall- maybe a little read before sleep? VERY not put downable read!) Love the alium- makes me wish I had planted my bulbs instead of just looking at them. Good advice for markers indeed! Oh such love and hugs coming your way tonight! Blessings and peace!

What colourful ideas for your swimsuit - the allium flower has a bit of an onion smell - have you noticed yet! I have a few in my garden and they seem to keep aphids away.

What gorgeous blooms!
I love the swimming costumes of yesteryear, they are so much more pretty, modest and feminine than what we have now, I particulary like the 40's and 50's ones, wish they still made them like that. :) xxx

Oh this sounds like fun! I will have to ask Peach if she would like to do it as she is my little fashion designer. A friend and I once talked about designing and creating our own swimsuit. Ones that cover nicely and yet let us play in the pool comfortable with our children. I love your drawings!

Aren't allium wonderful?? You have a big one to take to school! Soon, very soon, you will be able to enjoy long beautiful summer days!

Blessings and hugs!

I have Alliums like that in my garden too. The sed heads are amazing.
Swimsuit? Mmmm, a difficult challenge there!

I love your swimsuits! I would wear any one of them happily. Wouldn't it be great if there were a company you could submit your designs to and they'd sew up the real thing?
