Africa

Don't you love Out of Africa? One afternoon, years ago, I sat weeping after viewing it AGAIN and Jenny said, "Mom, you can't watch this movie anymore. No more crying." I DO watch it over and over again. I have the soundtrack on my iPod and I bought the book Tuesday night. I plan on treating myself to read aloud sessions, small sections savored and enjoyed!
Bill and Jeff went shark diving off of Capetown, South Africa today! Eeeeeeeek! I got an email from Bill in the wee hours of the morning. This was his second go at cage diving with Great White sharks and this time the water was clear and they came right up to peer at Jeff and Bill with their beady, hard eyes. Bill loved it! Jeff loved it, but got a little sea sick. They are enjoying Capetown very much. The Sixth Avenue camp is a place where kids feel loved, women feel paid attention to and need is great.
Here's Jeff with a few of the beautiful kids.

Look at our Jeff on the boat, returning to shore. He seems pretty relaxed after a swim with sharks!
I miss them. I'm ready for them to return, but I'm thankful that they are reaching out and caring for people.
Thank you for all your sweet and reassuring comments after my bad day on Monday. The way you reach out is so true and real and I am a happy recipient of the outpouring of your squishy, pink hearts. Yahoo!
Remember that book I am reading called Making Crosses? Well, here is a sweet little tidbit from its pages . . . God wants your attention not your perfection.
Wow, huh? I like that. I feel loved.

I love that collage. Out of Africa is a favorite book. I put Debbie's recommendation in my Netflix Queue. I also love Flames Trees of Thicka.

You said,"God wants your attention not your perfection."

Well that's just as well really as with me there ain't no perfection - lol!

Thanks for your kind comment on my blog - hope your Thursday is good - aren't your Thursdays long days? Hope you can snuggle with a book later :)

One of my favorite all time movies is Out of Africa. I could watch it every month I think and never grow tired of it. Looks like they are having a great time. Hugs

I love that movie Out of Africa, too. I have never read the book, but I loved Babette's Feast that Isak Dinesen also wrote (and loved that movie, too). I am so in awe of the work your husband and your son are doing, and so far away from you. It is truly a labor of love on the part of your whole family. Thank you for the quotation about attention, not perfection. I really need to work on that. It's almost Friday, and I hope you have the loveliest of weekends!! xo Kari

I'm sorry you Monday was -- well -- so Mondayish. Mondays are tough for a lot of us I think. I know I'm always glad when Tuesday rolls around again.

Hmm, I'm not too sure I'd want to swim with the sharks. I do appreciate looking at them through the glass though. Praying Bill and Jeff arrive home safely soon!

I am glad that you feel loved because you ARE loved!

Blessings!

Beautiful pics and sharing! What an awesome blessing for Bill and Jeff!

My dil's grandparents were and still are missionaries to Africa. What exciting stories they share of God's miraculous!

I must read Making Crosses! What a truth! God is not looking for perfection. No, we are flawed without Him! He is our only hope of being!

Thank you, my friend, for your beautiful heart! I appreciate you!

Blessings and love,

Andrea

My God I LOVE that movie. And I am such a huge fan of Robert Redford (ideal man - love him in the Horse Whisperer too) and Meryl is probably one of my favourite actresses, so yes, a definite favourite. I too have the sound track, and I did TRY and tackle the book, but found it too hard going - bit too much politics and not enough love for me....

Did you ever watch (on TV years ago) The Flame Trees of Thika? About a family that move out to Africa, based on the biographies of Elspeth Huxley. They are great books. I was a little girl when it was on TV but I loved it, and my mum always said I looked like the little girl who played Elspeth. (It is told through the eyes of a child). You might like them more if it's the 'feel' of Africa and starting a new, the challenge and so on, rather than the politics that you like...

Anyway, thanks for making me think of all this...

Love Charlotte

I need to watch that movie again. I loved it so long ago.

Blessings on your sons' work.

I have wondered about "Making Crosses." What a great quote. I have that book in my wish list.

Hi Pom Pom,
So interesting that everytime I visit your blog I find something that is just so relevent for right this second in my life. How'd you do that?;-) I just tried to order this movie yesterday on Amazon. Isn't that weird?

I LOVE this movie. The first time I watched it, I was just a kid but loved it then. I latch on to movies and when I do then I can watch them endlessly. Out of Africa is one that I've watched sooooooo many times! My mom had the soundtrack and we used to go to sleep listening to it. Wow-- I think I sound obsessive here ;-)

Wonderful pictures of your son also. Making an impact! Awesome and inspiring-- as are you Pom Pom!

Thank you for your prayer's!It means so much to me and to my mom!
