The Hundred Dresses

Happy Pink Saturday!

Something made me remember this book the other day, so I ordered it from Amazon. It came and it enchanted me once again. I read it the next morning and cried before school. Eleanor Estes tells a glorious story about forgiveness. The reader can't help but fall in love with the main character, Wanda Petronski. She is a poor little Polish girl, new at school, and the scapegoat for the other school children. I read it to my struggling readers and writers. We managed to read it from start to finish in fifty minutes. I tell you, they were captivated. These are city kids, tough and no nonsense. The story moved them (the boys, too!) and the images of the 100 dresses are poetic. I don't want to spoil the story for you but it is worth the $6.99. It is a true treasure. I thought of all the dresses we have in the basement, the remnants of many, many dress up dances for our girls. Birdie was over for dinner and when I told her about the box of dresses and Gran's picture taking plan, she agreed to help.

April (our daughter in love) wore this for her best friend's wedding

Kelli wore this to her first high school Homecoming dance

I wore this when I was a bridesmaid for my friend, Lori

Jenny wore this in my niece Amy's wedding

Kelli wore this to another Homecoming dance. It was a stressful evening. The pastie things that are supposed to take the place of a bra did NOT work and she was so sunburned from cheering at the Homecoming game, she hated all this itch! I liked it. I may have had a little too much input on this one.

My model wearing the ugly "mistake Crocs" we ordered and were too lazy to send back. We call them the Snow White shoes. Birdie took them home tonight.

Kelli's senior prom dress. Do you think my model is getting a little annoyed with this game?

The bridesmaid dresses for Brad and April's wedding

This dress had long gloves and a fancy wrap. Kelli wore it to the dance when her date got mono at the last minute and she had to call in for a back up date. He was a star and she had lots of fun!
Please read The Hundred Dresses. I promise your heart will warm up even more! Below, my cute pinkie at school allowed me to capture her constant pinkness.

She LOVES pink like you guys do!

We worked in our art journals at school and I decided to put the "go to the Dean" pass in the middle and pink the rest.
Happy Pink, my sweet Pink People! I think you should visit Cottontails Baby today. You'll love her cute Humphrey (a real nut-brown rabbit!) and HER! Also, go to Beverly's blog. She's the pink hostess with the mostest! Thanks for visiting and here are a few hugs and kisses!

Oh! This is my Flutter Fairy, perched on my shoulder! She's kind of beat up due to Birdie's obsession with her. I lost her magic, gossamer threads. With her wand and her secret thread, she really can fly! Happy Pink Saturday!

Oh, Pom Pom, yes, I know this book! I never used it with my classes, we just never got to it for a read-aloud, but my copy was always in our book corner. It is so beautifully and powerfully written. But, Pom Pom, this book is the whole reason I got into blogging! A blogger at Tollipop.com was inspired by it to draw a hundred dresses on her little ladies, and she offered an invitation to everyone to make a "hundred somethings," too, her idea being that if everyone were busy creating, the whole world would be a better place. I thought I'd join her and make a hundred guardians, so I started blogging! I've been adding guardians (they are on my sidebar under "Hundred Guardians") from time to time. But then of course I wandered off into other things. I love your little model for all your dresses (so sweet), and your cute pinkie from school, and your art journal and flutter fairy. Thank you for a wonderful post!! xo Kari

It's always so much fun for me to travel from blog to blog on Pink Saturday. Each and every entry is different and each and every one makes me smile and feel all pink from the inside out☺

Today, 'tis cold up here, near zero, so I need all the little pink rays of sunshine I can gather 'round and your blog certainly has helped to warm my pinkie ♥.

Thanks so much for sharing this week. Your blog is wonderful and filled with so much to see and to read!

Hi, PomPom,
Thank you for sharing this book. It brought back some memories for me. As a young girl, I read all The Moffats books by Eleanor Estes that I could get my hands on. I loved them all! I have not read The 100 dresses, however, and so I look forward to finding it and reading it. Your little Birdie was a very cute model! Happy Pink Saturday, dear friend! Vicki

OK, I'm in love with you and your blog! What a scream....watching that sweet child model the dresses for you! OMG....so clever! I'm a keeper of garments from past occasions, however, when we moved 5 years ago, I PURGED....I mean seriously purged. Now I am so sad, cuz it would have been wonderful to do the same thing as you with my little grand girl!

It was a pleasure to meet you...you added so much joy to my Pink Sat! Dana

These pictures are priceless! What a marvelous idea--and a delightful model.

I didn't read The 100 Dresses until I was an adult and was surprised how moved I was by it.

Hi Pom Pom,
This is my first time visiting your blog. As soon as I heard your song (My Redeemer) I knew I was going to love it here ;-) I'm so excited to have found your post about the exact book that I just got from the library for my 10 year old to read. She read it in a day and loved it. I haven't read it but you've inspired me to. I do love children's books.

Your very cute model in those fancy dresses-- just darlin! What a great idea! She look's a little bit like Eloise from The Eloise in the Plaza movie (my girls love that movie!)

You make me smile! Don't you just love a good, quality children's book. We read 100 Dresses last year when I took that little trip into homeschooling the girls. It was powerful and beautiful. Such a great tool for teaching kindness and compassion!!! Also loved seeing Miss Jenny's dress from my wedding :)

Love you!!!
